All I have to say is....where's Lanie? She better be talking some sense to Beckett! Anyway, I agree with everyone. Good action packed episode. I'll reserve judgment for now and see what the writers have planned. At least they promise that we won't have to wait for 20 episodes for Castle and Beckett to resolve their issues.

The bizarre thing about this eppy is that I truly enjoyed it all the way until the crazy, do I or don't I, moment. The justification for leaving Castle seemed contrived and a 2 steps forward and 1.5 steps back soap ploy. Sadly, this had the promise of a great Castle hour. Since I am SPREE, hope does not reign supreme at this moment for me. My optimistic expectations into this season's effort are already waning. This is not typical of my Castle emotions. I think there were only two Castle episodes where I went.... REALLY, you guys are doing THIS? <sigh>

Nathanfan1.... thanks for the positive spin. I needed that. I am attempting to give TPTB the benefit of the doubt. This is going to be a LOOOOOONNNNGGG week until next Monday when maybe Castle can be redeemed. Keeping my fingers crossed.

The problem I have with Beckett chasing demons and devils is that in her line of work there will always be a devil to take down, a conspiracy theory to uncover, and justice to be delivered to victims. Sure, the show can run with this side of her Kate's personality but in the end it's not what I've tuned in to see if they overdo it. Al Pacino as Lt. Vincent Hanna explained it best in the movie "Heat" (1995).
"It's like you said. All I am is what I'm going after."
And I'm sad for Castle because this is his "third time's a charm". Now, is this realistic being the spouse of a cop and specifically a captain? Possibly. But at some point Beckett has to step back and lead from her command position instead of running around and getting involved in shootouts.
Will be interesting to see. We're so far removed from season 1-6x22 with Beckett walking out now that we're seeing an edgier and grittier Castle 3.0 with Beckett shirtless in front of someone other than Rick. Hey, I'm not being prudish, just noticing the changes and seeing her needle and thread work instead of examining scars. Time will tell.

Given what Rita told Kate about pursuing this = her loved ones being in danger, I can understand why she thinks she needs to distance herself from them. But why not just come out and tell Castle that? He knows about how his father's had to live, and he would certainly understand Kate wanting to put an end to the conspiracy that got her mother killed and that now has cost the lives of her former coworkers in DC. He probably would have insisted he can help, that he's not afraid, and she could have still insisted and left, but at least he wouldn't have been in the dark.

Words running through my brain to describe my feelings about this episode...nonplussed, trite, wrong, at least a half a bubble off, heading toward a full bubble....no my glass is not half full, I'm not sure where it's at....there were so many characters, so many bad guys, so many plot devices, nope don't like Alexis and Toks...not sure about Vikram either....maybe he is a bad guy, too....Bracken probably staged a fake death...why not? Bring in more bad buys...more guns...more blood and violence.... Castle now has a step-mom...come on....and the ending scene...ARRRRGH....and next week will be all light and fluffy??!!!!!!
OK, I think I'm done with my rant now. A wheel may not have fallen off my little Castle-mobile but it sure has a bad tire in need of fixing....
But of course I'll be here for the next episode, ever hopeful they'll pull that magic rabbit out of the hat (I DO love bunnies, ya know)!

I don't have a real problem with the reasons Kate is leaving. She is trying to keep the person she lives most in the world alive. Castle doesn't know that the dead AG at the end is not the end of the problems. Kate knows that Castle is just like her. If she tells him everything, then he is going to throw himself right into this. Remember he investigated Kate's moms murder on his own. I get her thinking that to keep him alive she needs to get away (not sure I agree with it, but I get it).
To me there is a bigger problem. If they are working cases together, then they're not really apart. So the whole point of leaving is defeated. To the bad guys, if they are around each other, why does it matter if they're living together. So then why go through the charade in the first place.
That being said, these are two of the best writers this show has had. I believe they have a plan, and I am willing to see how they unravel the situation.

I am loving the discussion! So nice to see everyone's thoughts on this episode. It is so nice to be able to express our thoughts both positive and negative and vent here.
I wonder if the new guy is going to be a mole that these bad guys put in place to keep tabs on Beckett's progress? What do we know about him other than what he told to Beckett? She can't check on his story as everyone she knew in the AG's office is dead. He did appear to save her by shooting the guy about to shoot Kate. I thought he was a computer geek but he sure knew how to shoot a gun and kill someone without freaking out like a geek would? More experience with this kind of thing than one would expect? Can you tell I'm trying to focus on other things than the crazy last 2 minutes?? What do you think?

Took me awhile to recover to be able to just come here. I have not read a thing. And won't til later today.
Loved the episode until the last two minutes. Busted out in tears. Not kidding. Almost threw something.
I liked Rita. Kate should've listened to her.
Stellar filming/cinematography.
I have nothing more to say.

I'm trying to dishes to work off steam, and here I am again. What happened to partner in life and in crime.....what happened to not letting mistakes define her.....what happened to always? And where's her new bracelet? Shouldn't that have been a stark reminder, the clue in this episode, the foreshadowing...that she would choose "always" ? And why all of a sudden to we see her taking her shirt off? Has she ever done that before? I mean in front of anyone else besides us when she was examining her scar? And what about the "Always" episode and all that implied and how it brought her to her knees and to Castle's door? Has she forgotten? That ending. Castle. My heart broke with his. WHY? ?? JUST NO! Was all this show has been based on a lie? Why writers? Why? I despised 6x23. I think I may hate this more. This is not my Kate. Sucker punched. Again. Bitter. Blah.

I am trying to give this plot line every possibility. Perhaps the sewing event was to show its not about her, as her scars were, but, about something other than her??? I am grasping at straws. Is it because they were in dire straits Kate shed her blouse? I might have to look at the previews or spoilers to bring myself out of my funk. <sigh> I've never had to do that before! Dire Straits for me too for certain!

And where's my Kate that wanted magic? And who made Castle believe in magic?
This season...my hopes were marital magic. And fun. Not angst. Have they really been happily married for any length of time? What the heck.
Geez.
Ugh.
This place is therapy. Thank you.

I read the interview with Hawley and Winter but I can't believe they don't understand that they have lost some of their audience by pulling this stunt! I am still in it til the wheels fall off but there will be a lot of folks that will pack it in after watching the last few minutes. Paging Dr. Burke PLEASE! I hope Beckett goes to see her shrink because she sure needs to do that to even begin to deal with the guilt of her former team being killed from the AG's office. I get that but the ratings of this show are at stake and they just took a huge gamble with the fandom. I hope it pays off but I think they did irreparable damage to my favorite show as well as the ratings.

These are the questions I'm asking myself:
1) Would I REALLY want to see Happy Rick! and Happy Kate! the entire season? No -- that's not real life. Life is ups and down. Life is full of difficult decisions. I would not want to watch everything being happy for the whole season. That's not real to me.
2) If YOU were Kate -- what would you do? Me? If I knew that by even mentioning a word to my husband would put him in harms way -- I would forever never say that word. If I knew that my actions would be a danger to my children -- I would run, I would leave -- I would do whatever it took to keep them safe. Wouldn't you?
