It looks like we have some Star Wars fans here. I thought I would start this thread for discussion of the new movie. I won't be able to see it until next week. I don't want to be spoiled so I won't check back until I have seen the movie.
May the force be with you

I wonder how many Star Wars references we'll be getting in Castle & other ABC owned series when they return. Can't see Disney passing up the opportunity; they already did one on the last Agents of SHIELD.

My neighbor must gave us 2 free tickets for Star Wars tomorrow morning 9:00am. Her company is having their own screening. Christmas & Birthday gift for me all rolled into one. I thought it would be late next week before I could see it. I don't do crowds for movies standing in line.

Well, not to out the spoiler yet BUT, I'm still processing it! Holey moley. Despite that, I loved it! I'm not gonna lie and pretend I didn't get a bit emotional when the "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" graphic came on screen. *nerd alert*

Was not expecting some of what happened, but yes overall a definite thumbs up. And I also got a bit choked up when the music started and the opening graphics started scrolling. There were several points in the move that the audience in the theater clapped and cheered. Will be interested to read the box office numbers on Monday. I read earlier this week that it had over $100 million in advance sales.

I'm a grown man. I've made decisions that ripped my heart out. I've made tough calls, I've been through the school of hard knocks, and I have taken a few on the chin. And like many of you, I take the business of life seriously most of the time. And then I see this on the big screen and I am utterly, totally, and completely reduced to that 5 year old kid taken to his first movie. Butterflies. Thank you JJ Abrams. ***************SPOILERS***************SPOILERS***************SPOILERS*************** I had so many LOL moments and I was at risk of lockjaw from grinning so much. LOVED the first half. LOVED the sets. Thank you so much JJ Abrams for not overdoing the CGI. LOVED seeing old friends. But the movie isn't without it's flaws. If I have to see one more death star equipped with planet destroying super laser, I'm gonna puke. Lots of retreads of old material which is great because it connects us old timers with the past but bad because I want to move on. The first half was out of this world jaw dropping but the second half failed to electrify and brought the story back down within Jakku's tropospheric levels. I want to see the dynasty unfold in a more complex storyline but I do understand the need to delight the younger viewers and market the toys. Transition wasn't as smooth as the 2009 Star Trek reboot but I was very entertained and I hope part VIII will give us more originality and less rehash of the old playbook. Loved the cast but at first I wasn't impressed with "Kylo Ren" until I realized that he's not quite his grandfather, Lord Darth Vader, and still a child prone to emotional outburst, not yet able to fully channel his anger and pain. Great performance by Daisy Ridley, "Rey", who stood toe to toe with legends from my childhood and won this 5 year old over. Bravo. Loved "Finn" and BB8 for comedic relief. Chewie, I've missed you, and you're going to be one angry Wookie. At first I thought Rey was a Skywalker, maybe Luke's daughter. How else did Luke's lightsaber connect with her? Did anyone else suspect it? I know Jedi's are not allowed a family so it seems they're destined for a celibate life. ***************SPOILERS***************SPOILERS***************SPOILERS*************** Can't wait for episode VIII.

SPOILERS.... I was finally able to discuss this with an OCD Star Wars fan yesterday when I was volunteering at the MIM (MIM.ORG). This man had not only seen all the movies but had read all the books, graphic novels, tv cartoons etc. I know that the Star Trek universe rally watches the "history" and if something happens then it becomes part of the story from that point on. I don't think Star Wars is true to that as there were so many different things going on between the lore of the books and the way the other avenues took off. I did read a couple of the books years ago. The books had Leia and Han having twins, a bit and girl, just like Luke and Leia. That alone made me think that Rey was indeed a Skywalker but Leia's not Luke. In the books, the guy told me that Luke became so powerful that he could fidgety planets with the force. He decided he was too powerful for the universe and so retreated to a planet island to live his life alone. If they are following some of the book history then it makes more sense that they did what they did. But..Han does not die in the books like he did.
JJ is not writing the next movie. He handed it off to another writer. I read he did tell him where he was taking the story. I thought he did a good job connecting loyal fans to the new movie. I did hear that some of the loyal fan base was not real happy with some of the plot twists.
I love that the new kickass character is a girl. She really kicked her brother without even getting any training. She just figured out that she was flowing with the force. She instinctively knew to calm her trade to focus the force. I LOVED her character! Ok back to bed for a few hours...
