OK, what do you all think of this? For me, it feels like a big misstep in marketing the show. Most fans have found Alexis barely tolerable for the last few seasons. Also, the fanbase is crying out for Castle and Beckett together, solving crimes and going home together. Instead this makes it appear that the show is leaning heavily towards Castle P.I. where Castle will solve crimes with Alexis and Hayley. We won't really know anything until season 8 actually begins but I'm afraid these kind of posters are going to drive fans away instead of getting them to tune in. What do you think?

I agree. I'm not really thrilled with what I've seen about S8 so far. The whole show was based on Rick and Kate. It's what many of us tuned in for and made us come back for week after week and season after season. The onscreen chemistry between Nathan and Stana was amazing and what always kept this fan coming back for more. It will be interesting to see what happens this year.

Have tried not to form an opinion but who am I kidding? As with Geezer, I'm not really liking much of what has been revealed through interviews, promos, sneak peeks intimating a multitude of avenues being pursued which seem to be straying far away from this show's original premise.
My reaction to this poster -- "Seriously?? Ugh"

I saw this yesterday and immediately groaned. The backlash was immediate and negative on Twitter. I have to say that I often wonder just what the marketing department is trying to do with the way they advertise Castle, or don't in most cases. I just don't understand why they think this will go over well, or do they not care? Nothing against Molly Quinn but I have disliked the Alexis character since that awful (IMO) fruitarian boyfriend arc. I have disliked any Castle/Alexis centric episode that took Beckett out of the storyline for the bulk of the show. I dislike Castle and Alexis solving crimes and building theory together. Just no. This is supposed to be Caskett's thing.
I have to wonder why the new showrunners have said more than once that Castle and Beckett's love story and them solving crime together is the center of the show because that's not the vibe I'm getting so far. I'm trying my best to withold judgement until I've seen a few episodes but it's getting harder and harder everyday.

It's my opinion that even though this poster was released, the majority of episodes will focus on Castle and Beckett solving crime together (though it will be different in some ways now that she's captain). I honestly don't think the show will switch from Caskett to Castle and Alexis. That would put Stana in a supporting role and she's not. She's got one of the two top roles. We may see Alexis more than before (although she's still in college, so I can't see her being in almost every scene), but I don't think it will over-shadow Caskett. I'm in till the wheels come off or the show ends.

I think that maybe this is a way for the show runners to tie everything together into the that central theme that "murder" is the family business. It's in their blood, it's what bonds them together. It also creates an interesting twist for the show. Kate is a captain now, but we know this is part of her character growth. She chose to take a deep breathe and enjoy being married for a while, maybe have some kids or something that completes and propels her into the next phase of her life. And she could work on cases with Rick whether it be at the 12th or at Castle Investigations. It bonds her to Alexis as well. Her next move is politics. This is her training ground. Her dynamic won't allow her to stay there, instead, it will drive her and Castle into different directions that ironically will bring them closer together. The PI gig is going to become Alexis's if she wants it. It could put her through law school, it could open so many doors for her. We all know, whether you like her character or not. she is going to be someone special. We see it. We know it. Maybe this creates a spin off show for her. Who knows? I will say, I always thought Castle would ask Ryan and Espo if they wanted a piece of Castle Investigations, so again, it has so many possibilities that the powers to be wanted to open a new door and see where it takes them. This show will always be about Castle and Beckett. Castle is one of the great all time Crime shows as well as one of the most confusing and alluring love stories of all time. Their push and pull is legendary. Their attraction and Rd-Action to each other is mind blowing. What they do and who they are drives this show. But just remember that in the beginning, there was this wonderful relationship between father and daughter that ABC wants to bring back. They must feel it was lost somewhere. There will be a time when Rick can no longer write Nikki Heat and will need to change again. So, as I said, Rick and and Kate are about to head into new territory, but along the same road. They will need each other and they will feed off each other. So don't let this bug you. I think this is more for Alexis than her dad.

I just don't see this as a positive PR move. Surely SOMEONE at ABC monitors the social media feedback and they would HAVE to be aware of the negativity towards the Alexis character the last 2 seasons. People are on edge concerning the changes and so worried about Kate and Castle continuing to find ways to work together. They should be promoting the heck out of Caskett, not father/daughter. I've also sworn that I won't form a definite opinion about the changes in the show until after the first 6 episodes have aired. The 2 part premier is bound to be unusual with Castle in part 1 and Kate in part 2, so I don't want to base any judgement on that. I figure the next 4 episodes should establish the tone and flow for the season so I'll wait to see. But as you said, it's getting harder to stay open minded! Kman, I like what you wrote about the concept of solving crime becoming the family bond and bringing them all closer together. That being said however, I still want Kate and Castle to be the focus of the show and not Castle and Molly.

Hi everyone
For me, no, just no! As others have said, given the unease with which some are viewing S8 you would think that ABC would do everything they can to reassure fans that despite the changes, the important factor namely Rick & Kate being in love, being a couple, and finding a way to solve crimes together remains intact and we would be shown that.
I am just hoping that the new showrunners are not just talking the talk as in they know why most fans tune in to watch Castle, namely to see Rick & Kate together, but actually show that in a way that leaves us with a stupid grin on our faces more often than the scowl at yet another wasted opportunity.

On the same train as fjordmom in regards to trying to not form an opinion and be open-minded until things get underway. But, as time goes on, and I long for more deliciousness in the spoiler department, I am thinking how much I adore the Caskett dynamic, and don't want it to be more of an Alexis/Castle dynamic. To be honest, and this has nothing to do with the lovely Molly Quinn, she's wonderful, but I would be okay if we rarely saw Alexis. As if she went off to college and we see her at Christmastime/holidays. Or when she has a significant role to play tied into a visit home and the COTW. Otherwise, I"m not in it for the father-daughter dynamic. I will do my share of "Awww...." when they have a sweet encounter or moment together, but Castkett is why I watch. And whatever happened to her shadowing Lanie?
The supporting characters are amazing, and we oftentimes need the family dynamic to mirror the COTW, but now that Rick & Kate are a couple, I'm thinking it should reflect them, and not so much Alexis & Martha. I'm over too much Alexis. The Pi arc almost did me in. I almost enjoy the Martha parallels even a little more than the Alexis ones. Sorry. I love Alexis - I'm not a hater, but for her to take an active role in her father's PI business, when it would be Rick & Kate theory building, love-eyeballing, and sipping coffee together... Ugh...dunno. Yeah, wait & see.
While I understand this season brings new contract negotiations, one being additional time off for each of the leads, I'm hoping they can bridge that by more loving phone conversation, pillow talk.... etc. And understand that because of this time off they need to do a lot of time filming apart. Which is also the case concerning the XY & XX two-parter. Nathan had to film while Stana finished up her second summer movie. I just think this is going to be the new normal. The time off request comes with a price. When they are both in the studio, those days will be filming together. Anyway, will enjoy my beloved show regardless. But I'm not wearing the rose-colored glasses anymore. Once burned, twice shy.
Time will tell.
Love that we can chat like this here.

I only hope the writers make the most of those precious few Caskett scenes it appears we will get since for me there has been so many blown moments in the past several years. Regarding your thoughts on Alexis......I completely agree.

You know, I've had to watch to this debate on Twitter and Tumblr the last couple days and I was really hoping not to have to see it here as well.
What happened to being patient? What happened to giving the showrunners the benefit of the doubt? What happened to the fact that STANA HERSELF said she liked the direction Hawley and Winter were going? Why can't we just wait and see how this plays out without dissecting the season and pronouncing doom before A SINGLE episode has even aired?
ALL OVER ONE BADLY TIMED PROMOTIONAL PHOTO.
It seems like the whole fandom has done little but complain about one thing or another this whole summer. I really thought we were the sane ones in a sea of crazy.
Was I wrong?

I am getting tired of finding myself the voice of reason in the Castle fandom lately and it is really beginning to disrupt my calm.
Can we all just dial back on the chicken little impression (the sky is falling the sky is falling) and see what the showrunners actually have in mind?
If I could do it last year after 6x23 then I don't think it's impossible.

I don’t believe anyone here is crazy or overly negative, just voicing our opinions which is encouraged. I think we’re all still very willing to give the new season a chance. Heck, we're all here because we're generally looking forward to it but this particular ad seems ill timed. I don’t hate Alexis but much like castlekat, I prefer less of her than more. This ad makes it appear she’s going to be front and center in the new “family business” Is this poster taking a small part of season 8 and making it appear larger than it is? Quite possibly and we won’t know until we watch. I consider myself a die hard fan. I'm in this until the wheels fall off but even my gut reaction to this ad was trepidation, not excitement.

I think the ad did exactly what it was supposed to do. It created a lot of "awareness" on season 8 of Castle. It got you all thinking and stirred some emotions.....so.....Yeah....I think ABC put it out there to get the juices flowing. But as everyone has stated.....we just have to wait and see......
Just remember, things never are what they appear to be on Castle. But wasn't it nice to talk about something on Season 8? Nice responses by everyone. I enjoy reading the way you all think. Amazing.....
Let's get this party started already!!!!

SNIP ... Love that we can chat like this here. Yes, indeed, it is wonderful that we can express our feelings and thoughts here. It's always interesting to read what others have to say... it may not change our feelings or mind, but it does give us the opportunity to think about the feelings and thoughts of others. Have a great weekend!
