My guess is that this will be another season where Castle & Becket aren't working together when it starts, then are back working together after a couple of episodes. Remember, there's a time jump between the end of Season 7 & the beginning of the new season. Kate probably got assigned somewhere new, another precinct or 1PP, when her promotion came through, somewhere where Rick couldn't work too. So he went back to his PI office, giving Alexis a summer job as his assistant (unique job to highlight on a grad school application). At some point Kate's obviously going to take over at the 12th, where Rick can join her & the boys.

It's all good. Everyone thinks the worst at times while hoping for the best. I believe that 6x23 made many a bit less trusting of show runners. That doesn't mean we aren't excited about the upcoming season, just wary! LOL
Let the good times roll

ddcnj - I really like your theory. Fingers crossed it works out that way. arky - Exactly.

That doesn't mean we aren't excited about the upcoming season, just wary! LOL Let the good times roll Well, it's not all good for me anymore but I do hope for the best all the time. Unfortunately the proverbial rug has been pulled from under me 2 times too many now so I feel it's only fair that I go into S8 with unease. ABC marketing/TPTB certainly aren't helping the matter either with what they choose to spotlight, at least for me. The S6 finale and then subsequent explanation of The Vanishing in Sleeper was so unbelievably stupid to me that I don't have much faith in the new show runners but yet here I am, waiting for S8 to start, albeit with lots of trepidation. I don't think I'm being negative or crazy to be that way either. Obviously some don't agree with my feelings and that's ok. I'm so very glad that many others are still completely happy. As I told castlekat privately elsewhere yesterday, whether I love S8, hate it or just tolerate it, I'm looking forward to having fun and respectful discussions about it here. Castle is still "my show" and I will watch albeit with some trepidation, until it ends or the wheels fall off, whichever come first.

Nicely put, CF40. I agree with you. Personally, I am not thrilled with the idea of episodes with Rick or Kate mostly missing. Their interaction is the reason I have been a rabid fan since day 1. Like You, I am cautiously going into S8 and will stay til the bitter end. BRING IT ON!!!

SNIP ... Love that we can chat like this here. Yes, indeed, it is wonderful that we can express our feelings and thoughts here. It's always interesting to read what others have to say... it may not change our feelings or mind, but it does give us the opportunity to think about the feelings and thoughts of others. Have a great weekend! Yes! Completely agree. I love to read everyone's thoughts. How beautiful it is that we're all different. And, once in a blue moon, I do change my mind. But not usually. And you have a delightful weekend, as well, friend!

If the best reaction is "let's wait and see" and the worse is an uproar on Twitter, your marketing team failed.

I am taking Winters and Hawley at their word that they do realize the reason most fans tune is the Caskett relationship and that we will get our fill. I simply find this particular choice of promotion for the show rather puzzling, as it gives the impression that there will be less Caskett, which contradicts what they have been saying in interviews all summer. Now whether those two had any input into this, or if it's more bungling by the ABC marketing team, who knows. My fear is that it may turn people off from even tuning into Season 8 because they feel the show is going to be focusing more on this new thing with Rick and Alexis rather than Rick & Kate.
As others here have stated, I am in it to the end. I am looking forward to the new season and fingers crossed that the show continues well past Season 8.

Hi everyone
CF40 & Motown you have both expressed what I feel.
I really hope that the new showrunners are not just talking the talk by saying that they know the Rick & Kate love story is the heart and soul of the show and then split them up! For me from the get go that amazing chemistry between Nathan & Stana made the dance not WTWT but when are they gonna get together. There was never ever a doubt in my mind they would be a couple. I just hope that this show can finally show what a happy, crazy in love couple should be like. Because I for one would like to see them dancing together not trying to get back to dancing together.
And hasn't it been said that those involved with the show have no control over how the show is promoted? And this latest promotion makes me wonder if these people have ever watched Castle to know why fans watch this series.
B.x

To be honest, it isn't that I don't like or want to have dialog, it's just that there's been so much speculation and so much naysaying and negativity this summer that I've grown weary of hearing how the showrunners are gonna screw up the Caskett dynamic. I simply want to have something concrete to have dialog about after a summer of rampant (and oft times ugly) speculation.
Lest we forget, Alexis is a Castle too. I look forward to seeing her with a more mature storyline. Something real for her to do until she can find herself. It doesn't mean Kate is somehow being excluded. This could turn out to be a newer version of her internship with Lanie that gave birth to some of the best Alexis scenes ever.
Given their history with the show, and the fact that they impressed Stana enough for her to stay on board, I think Hawley and Winter have earned the benefit of the doubt to try.

shutterbug5269... I debated just backing completely out of this discussion, but since you keep coming back with more, I'll take the bait ... and suggest that perhaps you need to take a break from those sites (other forums, twitter, tumblr) where you feel there is rampant speculation, naysaying, negativity, et al. I do resent the fact that you seem to be including this board and its members with what is being said in the rest of the Internet "world".... What I have seen here is civil discussion. I have no intention of giving that up. And I am definitely NOT ashamed of any thoughts or feelings that I have conveyed via this forum. I think the very fact that we are all looking forward to watching Castle IS indeed giving Hawley and Winter "the benefit of the doubt."

I think the very fact that we are all looking forward to watching Castle IS indeed giving Hawley and Winter "the benefit of the doubt." I have no less reason to be apprehensive about season 8 than anyone else here. A good portion of season 7 left a bad taste in my mouth too. I don't deny it. Do I have concerns? Of course I do, perhaps not the same ones everyone else has, but I do. But there comes a time hoqever to set them aside move forward and let the chips fall where they may. I had to do it for season 7 and I think we can do that for season 8 too. Attacking my position does not change that. All I'm really asking now that the season premiere is imminent, is that we not start going round and round and round about the same things the rest of the internet (where my comment about being ashamed of people was really directed) has already done to death all summer. (Topics we have managed to our credit to avoid until now) Discussions that will be moot in eight days when we actually do have something really interesting to talk about. Discussions I look forward to having with people I respect (you guys) Is that so wrong?

**sigh** just have to wait and see. Sadly, I'm not holding out much hope because they haven't given me any to hope for, but I'm in it till the wheels come off.

OK Everyone, let’s all take a collective deep breath. I’ve seen some of the same negative comments on the internet and I agree, some of it is silly and some of it is downright shameful because it personally targets the people involved with the show. The fact is that NO ONE on this board has anything to be ashamed of and I don’t think shutterbug5269 meant to infer that we did. Many fans have concerns and yes, it’s just a TV show but since this board is all about said TV show, this is the place to voice those concerns as long as it’s done civilly and with the understanding that others may disagree. Of course we won’t know anything concrete until the Castle 8 season premiere… well, hopefully I’ll know a bit sooner if ABC sends me a screener!
