I kept away from any reviews about Take Two because I wanted to come to my own conclusions. I finally watched the pilot episode.
It’s so Castle-esque that I felt like I was watching an episode of Castle season 1. If you don’t want to know why STOP READING NOW!
*****
You’ve been warned. Here are some of the things that reminded me of Castle.
-The rhythm of the dialogue, and some very similar dialogue to Castle. -The background music. -The famous person not being able to stay in the car. -The M.E. meeting the famous person and being a fan. -The famous person “knowing a guy” who can help. -The cell phone going off during a shoot out. -The P.I./cop with a troubled past. -The P.I./cop is a closet fan of the famous person. -The famous person helps solve the case by looking at things from a different point of view.
For people who aren’t fans of Castle the way we are, Castle season 1 was nine years ago, so this might feel new to them.
I like both actors in their roles, but I don’t feel the intense chemistry that Castle and Beckett had in the beginning. Of course, if you’re missing Castle, this might just be the thing you’re looking for.
I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it, but I found the similarities to Castle anywhere from distracting to downright annoying.
Just my two cents...

Thanks for your take on the show. Do you get to review it? I think those of us that were OCD fans of Castle will recognize ever sentence that was used in Castle. I am going to try and enjoy the new characters and hopefully let the mystery unfold in each episode.

I was afraid I'd spend the entire time comparing it to Castle and that didn't seem fair, so someone else on our staff will be covering it.

Probably the right choice...because that is exactly what you would have done.

From the June 25 edition of People magazine: "Take Two is from the executive producers of Castle, with a premise that depends on the same flirty combativeness. In that regard, Take Two is more like a pale imitation." The article then goes on to say that it's also "light and playful-enjoyable lazy summer viewing."
Will be interesting to see what we all think once it airs, and how much we'll be making comparisons.

Hi everyone
PTVJ - I hope that you will post the link as you used to do for Castle when I couldn't wait for Tuesday morning coffee and be spoilt!
Tycho - I hope that the Marlows and the network are ready for the comparisons that will surely be made not just by fans but possibly the media between Take Two and Castle.

And a couple more at the end....when Sam used her gun-kicking technique, reminded me of how Castle disarmed Tisdale in the alley. And then of course the set-up....Eddie is getting more clients but they want Sam, similar to the commissioner ordering Montgomery to let Castle shadow Kate. Agree that the chemistry is not on the level that Castle and Kate were right from the beginning. I actually found myself enjoying it, more than I think I expected to. I did notice all the Castle similarities but didn't find that it detracted much from my viewing experience. Will be interesting to see if there gets to be less of that as the show goes on.

Watched it, liked it but I agree the chemistry is not as intense, watching it, all the Castle similarities I saw, but to me something was missing, first time I watched Castle I was hooked, this time not so much, but I will watch again

I enjoyed the comments. We plan on watching this evening so will stick in my 2 cents worth tomorrow. I don't know if ANYTHING will ever totally measure up to how GOOD Castle was in those first 6 seasons but "almost" will make this viewer happy

I agree with all the comments posted. The show was alright. The actress is a little annoying...Castle was too, but in a cute way, but I guess that's her character. Yeah, the chemistry is not there right now, but it's enough to keep me watching for now. I noticed the show also has some ex-Castle people who worked on the show.

I had the very same reaction that others have mentioned. I enjoyed the show, as I really like a lighter level of entertainment. I caught all of the similarities to Castle of course, but for me, the role reversal was a real key point to it feeling fresh. By having a woman be the comic foil, it changed the dynamic completely for me. I thought it was interesting that despite the gal being the self centered one, they gave her a nice level of genuineness as she came to really care about the victims. The chemistry was OK - nowhere near the level we saw from Caskett - but there was some there. I'll continue to watch for now.

I was really looking forward to this show but was more disappointed than I expected. I think part of that is because it was so similar to Castle in plot and words but didn't deliver close to the same charisma and chemistry. The girl was fairly annoying. In contrast Castle was annoying to Beckett but the audience was immediately in love. Castle also had more dimension with his mom and daughter being a big part of each story. Full disclosure, I was doing something else while watching so maybe I didn't give it a fair chance. I will rewatch with my hubby and probably try a couple more episodes before deciding if it's a keeper.

Ditto for me. Lack of chemistry, lack of friction... I wanted a fresh show, so I'm a bit disappointed in Castle 2.0. I'll give it a few more episodes before I decide whether to stay with it, but it is indeed, a pale imitation.
Honestly, I expected better from Marlowe and Miller.

Okay, I'm just going to say this. The show is NOT Castle. It's not meant to be nor should it be. Let the show stand or fall on its own merits. That being said, we thoroughly enjoyed it and will watch it til the wheels fall off. Of course, we saw all the similarities but we enjoyed all those things on Castle. Why can't we enjoy them on another show?? They help to make it a fun, enjoyable show. We felt the chemistry was a LOT better than most of the shows we see. We enjoyed the interaction of the leads and liked the supporting cast. We are looking forward to the rest of this season and will enjoy the ride

Yes, I realize it's not Castle, but do the writers? It felt like they were trying too hard to show us how much this new show can be like Castle. That was my beef. I am hoping to see something new and fresh next week.
