Hi everyone! So, as a few more people appear to be watching the series but seem to be on different seasons or episodes, I thought it would be fair to have a post where things could be discussed without spoiling it for those who do not wish to know. Perhaps if someone has actually read the books they could post here to say how the series might deviate. B.

So as I may have mentioned, the reason that I am watching the current season of Poldark is because they have introduced the characters that I vaguely remember from the original (which I didn't watch on a regular basis) series namely Demelza's brother Drake and what I had not realised Elizabeth's cousin Morwenna. George has really surpassed himself in viciousness in his pursuit of being accepted by the 'gentry'. However no matter what he attempts, without effort Ross always seems to best him simply because his name is Poldark. To have Morwenna married to some odious, smug vicar because of the guy's mother...And the hell that was shown for Morwenna this past week. Demelza gave Drake half information that Morwenna was pregnant and didn't tell him how unhappy she was. No doubt trying to protect her brother. It also didn't occur to me until later but Drake, now a blacksmith thanks to Ross providing him with a facility to practice, fashioned a pendant which his brother Sam thought was the Madonna & Child but I think it represents Morwenna for Drake as he isn't wearing it openly... I can't wait to see how things develop especially with something that Ross said which may lead Demelza to begin a relationship she will regret. B.

Well, my goodness, the previews for next week certainly stir the pot....I know Demelza will most likely end up rueing her actions, but I'd like to see her have a relationship with someone who realizes what a treasure she is ....
I didn't put 2 and 2 to together on the necklace that Drake made... thanks for mentioning that...I'll have to re-watch.

Well, that's my season of Poldark over. I can't see the UK getting the new season 4 this year so I guess it's sometime next year to find out how they have resolved Drake & Morwenna.
Oddly enough I preferred the penultimate episode but in that final episode, damn some of those women were on fire! Forget Demelza not being someone to mess with, that final episode it was Elizabeth. To challenge George the way she did. And how well did the actor portray George showing just how insecure he truly is about his heritage. I loved how Morwenna's sister played that odious vicar and short lived I believe will be Morwenna being able to keep her husband out of her bed. Unlike the original once Morwenna married Whitworth I don't think there was any contact between her and Drake but in this version Drake is what keeps Morwenna going. First chanting over and over to herself that she loved Drake, then receiving the locket and finally those flowers. As for Demelza, sorry but I don't think she spent all that time with Hugh listening to poetry or discussing the Cornish weather! I wonder what the consequences will be. I would also say that I prefer the cast of the original. Geoffrey Charles has an arrogant defiance when it comes to George.
I will again record the next season just to see the resolution with Drake & Morwenna and I hope that they don't instead do the time jump which I believe happens in the books and that will negate that relationship being seen again.

Not a spoiler but just to say that the UK has started season 3 this past Sunday (June10). It sounds as if this season may go down the political road and perhaps give some more historical information about 1789 (I think is the year).

Darn! Looks like I'll have to wait until someone over here picks it up; usually PBS does, but not until a while after BBC broadcasts the entire season.

Fjordmom - I will try to check out when the US might get it.
Just to get you even more keen, Ross emerges from the surf (like Daniel Craig in Bond) in the opening scene and Ross is bare chested and wearing a kinda flesh colored trousers.... The odious vicar is still around and the situation between Drake and Morwenna is even more heartbreaking....

Good ol' Youtube! And my bad, it's Season 4 already not 3.
And that opening scene...
Enjoy...

2nd episode had waaay too much odious vicar for my liking! Ross and Demelza were all over the place. One minute totally together, the next not so much by that I mean as a couple who had had some difficulties but had reached an understanding.
As for Drake and Morwenna I really don't know what they are going to do with them. I vaguely seem to recall that in the 1970's version she was traumatised by her marriage to Whitworth and didn't like to be touched so that when she held Drake's hand it was significant. So I wonder if Whitworth will actually rape Morwenna.

Skimmed through episode 4, hoping to make time later in the week to watch properly.
A disaster could have been more intense, over way too quick for my liking. There was a personal tragedy which was hinted at in the previous episode but seem to come out of nowhere for me. That said, tissues definitely needed. I am now getting very worried as to what is going to happen with Morwenna. It would appear that the solve not wanting to be married to a woman any longer may be used - commit her to an asylum.... That would certain traumatise the poor woman!

Ok so episode 5 of season 4 really has me anxious as to what happens next with Morwenna. Her husband didn't get her committed but took away the 'weapon' she was using to keep him at arms length and was able to force himself on her. Most fans are heaping praise on the actor that plays the odious vicar.
The preview for the next episode implied, at least to me, that they could be changing the outcome between Drake and Morwenna but then I saw a picture online that suggested that no, they would not be changing the outcome. However, as with some books where I am so invested in the characters I go to the final chapter to see how things turn out, I am now way beyond impatient to find out how they actually get to that ending given where the characters are at present. The final episodes of this season cannot happen fast enough for me!

Penultimate episode hits UK screens on Sunday, July 22nd and I'm not sure that they won't be rushing to fit everything in. I am still curious as to how Drake and Morwenna will reconcile, IF indeed they do this season and what will happen with Elizabeth and the baby. It would appear that yet again Ross & Demelza are at odds and to be honest for me that's getting boring. So unless the relationship that I am following is resolved this season I'm not sure I'll be watching the next one. I may also get the book The Angry Tide on which this season has been based.

So, the penultimate episode had way too much Ross & Demelza for me! It started with a lustful session between the two of them and went downhill from there. You briefly saw what the other characters were doing and there is an absolutely brilliant moment with Geoffrey Charles just when George thought he was winning. As for Drake and Morwenna she at least went to see him to tell him how she now feels after her marriage to the vicar. And the preview for the final episode shows her being pursued by men with dogs in the woods. I can only assume that's because mother-in-law wants to have her committed to an asylum - for her own good of course! With those events, I just cannot see a reunion with Drake that would not seemed rushed.

So the UK screened the final episode on Sunday 29th July and boy, did they get through some stuff. Loved the way it started. The situation between Drake & Morwenna as I thought was a little too rushed for me but I wouldn't have wanted it to continue into the next season which might be the last one for some time. At one point I was thinking Heathcliffe and Cathy. Depending on what I learn about the next season, I may not be watching.

1Lincoln40, I'm impatiently waiting to see Season 4 ....it looks like PBS over here may start showing it this fall.....I'm hoping maybe ACORNTV will pick it up sooner, or at least have it available at the same time....then I'd be able to binge the whole series rather than wait week to week...... fingers crossed.
