Actually, I believe they both were working a reduced schedule at different times and the reasons for that are theirs.
I can take what little we know and come up with several scenarios that will sound quite plausible but that's nothing more than a creative writing exercise. The truth is that we'll probably never know everything that went on behind the scenes so the speculation is a bit pointless.
Personally, I plan to enjoy Castle for what it was, try to forget the rest, and look forward to what these very talented people will do in the future.

Yes, when all we have is speculation, I guess we can come up with many different and equally possible scenarios. I also prefer to enjoy the show and not think very much about these possibilities.
Still, I was watching the bloopers the other day and I caught myself thinking when did the rumours about them not getting along started. According to what I understood, it was some years ago and yet watching the bloopers from season 4 and season 5 I was thinking that there's no way those two hated each other and didn't interact backstage.

Tweets... shweets!!! Placing ones own motives on others actions is ... well, not worth the time or effort. Lets allow things to play out,if they ever do. Explanations and excuses are just a convenient rationale for our prejudices. Time to move on.... I am looking forward to the new chapter of our favorite actors.  To be honest, it's just nice to know that there is a rational grown-up explanation for Nathan's reduced work schedule and not the junior high school b.s. that's been going around lately. Though I do feel for him, he must have been in a lot of physical pain for his shoulder to have degenerated to the point where major surgery was necessary. And then to have the fandom almost completely turn on him for something he couldn't control must have literally added insult to injury. When he tweets he always tries to be humorous or ironic to entertain. I think everyone is trying to read too much into his tweets. It's crazy to think he needs to change the way he tweets to placate a certain portion of the fandom that are going to hate on him anyway. Instead he is going on with his life trying to ignore the haters. It amazes me that people are so quick to believe the rumors about him being a bully and being behind Katic getting fired when the most frequent adjective used to describe him by fans, friends and others in the business is kind. He reinjured the shoulder in March which led to this surgery. I guess you could take this tweet and say he is a horrible person because all he thinks about is revenge. He's just making light of the situation. |
