Personally, I have changed my way of thinking on the subject or season 9. I think the show, if it shows more growth n the both the Demo and the live audience is safe. The DVR following is better than average and that bodes well. I don't feel that part of the equation was never an issue. But there are some problems and their names are Fillion and Katic and Hawley and Winter.
I feel that ABC didn't anticipate the "Blindspot" Series to be so well recieived or that the comedy routine of Hawley and Winter would peddle their Lame A s s "Fun" on such a stunned, but loyal to a fault audience. Tragic Flaw. Terrible Arc. Horrible Separation. Kate building a wall and living in a rabbit hole. Castle taking the blame for everything. Fans jumping ship after the "Ship" sank. What a mess.
But somewhere amidst all the fun and good vibrations, the show runners saw the error of their way and also a Cancellation Bear charging, with a vengence, right at them. They let the young guns write and they got back to business as usual. So although we see the new format of Private Eye Castle working with Espo and Ryan and occasionally with Kate, the show has remarkably rekindled a spark that lead to a flame and the country has become interested in what Castle has to offer. So Bravo to them.
But maybe too little too late. I feel the show is in limbo, but only because their 2 Leading Characters need more time off and their demands may be too steep or too ridiculous for the ABC network to tolerate. If they sign, the show lives. If not, the show goes into permanent syndication and everyone moves on.
Either way, we win. We will always have Castle and can watch it anytime we want. But I am just not sure if the dime lands heads up or tails down.

There are actually only 2 different endings. 1) Series finale - Everything is wrapped up hopefully satisfactorily 2) Season finale - Ends in a cliffhanger. If both stars return, season 9 will most likely look similar to this year. If only one star resigns, they can recast or rework the show however they want in the hiatus. Whatever happens, I hope Loksat is wrapped up this year.

I figured it would be a last minute decision in terms of which ending to air. What I find more than a little upsetting about this though, is that more than once they mention a new version with altered cast. I sure hope that earlier tweet about no Caskett without Castle and Beckett holds true. I'd like for the show to continue but with everyone on board.

If they have Nathan (or both) on board by the end of this month, then there wouldn't be a mad dash to figure out which ending to air. They'll just go with the cliffhanger. They have to have the edited show done by May 9 if I remember right. My concern is what happens if contracts are still up in the air and it looks like talks could break down. I hope they err on the side of the fans and air the series finale if there is any chance that Castle won't return for season 9.
