Tonight we're treated to a MilMar / Bowman creation! I'm sure there'll be lots to talk about, so please join in the fun after you've seen the show.
I have to start out by saying that this wasn't exactly what I thought we'd get from Andrew and Terri BUT I'd be willing to bet they had a ball writing it! What a clever and twisty story and the guy who played Simon Doyle completely owned that part, making his story VERY believable. One of my favorite scenes was when Kate and Castle had Doyle in interrogation for the first time and Castle was totally drawn into his story, while Kate struggled to keep the interview on track. Stana's facial expressions were priceless! The whole plot was so well thought out. Another part I loved was when Doyle appeared to have been "recalled" and Espo goaded Kate about losing another suspect. When Doyle was handcuffed by Kate's desk later on and he realized that the kid was the key to the disaster, his rant got the attention of everyone in the precinct. I liked that they all were drawn into his rant. How fitting that he was let loose at the end and said he'd see them in 20 years.
The Garret Ward character was uber creepy, especially since he never uttered a word. That was a great choice! I was so proud of Castle for going after the guy at the power plant too.
Of course, I loved the predictions at the power plant - Kate a senator, she and Castle married with 3 kids and Castle writing serious books. Their reactions to hearing the predictions were so great.
In true Castle style, they left us to make up our own minds by having Doyle disappear and Castle getting to keep his "do-hickey," and even creepier, Kate spilling coffee on the letter. I really like the way the show can explore controversial topics and have their fun but not necessarily mock the believers.
The secondary story line with Alexis was interesting. I was very happy to hear Castle assert himself as the head of his household and demand that Pi get out, but he sure got dealt a blow with Alexis going with him. This was a real first. We've had some instances when Alexis was asserting her independence, but she always ended up feeling closer to her dad and there was usually a hug or kiss on the cheek in the end. This time, we see Alexis determinedly opposing her dad and walking out with some distance between them. Nathan sure nailed Castle's heartbroken reaction with his final words, "Too soon." I appreciated Kate's efforts to convince Castle that this wasn't really out of the ordinary for a 19 year old and I also loved that Kate encouraged him to focus on all of the positive things in the future with both Alexis and them. My read on the subtext was definitely that Kate would want to have a child with him. It's sure going to be interesting to see how long the Alexis / Pi arc lasts this season and how it resolves itself.
I have an insatiable appetite for Caskett lovin' and would have appreciated a moment or two of physical connection but there were many moments of emotional connection so I still enjoyed it. I can't help but think they could have inserted a line or two about the disappearance of Sully and the sterilizing of Kate's desk. The other question that I still have in my mind is why it's taken so long for Alexis to get back in school. I don't know of any universities that have terms starting in late October.
A very entertaining episode!
Thank you, entire CASTLE team—and Andrew, Terri Edda, and Rob!!! Stana and Nathan, how can you continue to be spot on with every line, reaction, expression?!—again, thank you all!!!
The fast-paced banter and crime solving—feature, for me, many, many, many, nearly constantly delivered favorites!!! Among them are: BECKETT’S bringing coffee to CASTLE; their referencing their future—multiple times; their wedding vows; their three children—Rick obviously already drives her crazy!!! Do you want to know their names? Rick: “Yes;” Kate: “No”!!! Rick will write serious literature!!! BECKETT’S, “Ms by the Book” and her eye rolls and scarcely hidden smiles/smirks are juxtaposed with CASTLE, who “loves this case,” and can’t contain entertaining—verb and adjective—possibilities for the self-proclaimed time traveler, his gadget, and his edicts!!!
Tamela, Jon, Seamus, and Molly rock their every opportunity, as do the guest actors, including elusive “time traveler,” Joshua E. GOMEZ, describing Kate, “real charmer, that one,” and noting that Kate and Rick marry despite “all the crazy stuff going on between” them “along the way”!!! How about the reference to Dr. Who’s sonic screwdriver?!
With a Stana-perfect pause for consideration—and compassion and devotion, Kate optimistically encourages Rick to imagine future joys with Alexis and in their own life/lives together!!! Kate counsels Rick about Alexis’ decision to get an apartment with the—from Amsterdam, passport-less, she met him on a banana plantation—Pi, whom Rick, “not before time,” in my view, ejects from their home!!! I love, too, Rick’s concern for, frustration with, poignant memories of, hopes for, and try waiting one year option offered Alexis—are juxtaposed, too, much like the Kate’s and Rick’s reactions to the “time traveler”—mentally ill individual or likely hero?!!! Rick’s tender goodbye to Alexis and his tearful, “Too soon,” are also perfectly written and perfectly, Nathan-rendered!!!
How fascinating that Simon DOYLE and villain Garrett WARD were once housed in adjacent rooms, when being treated for mental illness!!! How shall we respond—how does Kate feel about the two Paul DeSCHILE letters, identically coffee stained?!!!
The other question that I still have in my mind is why it's taken so long for Alexis to get back in school. I don't know of any universities that have terms starting in late October.
It's just been a little confusing since most Castle seasons pick up at the end of the summer but this one has been different. At least that's my interpretation of it.
I stayed up the extra hour to live tweet with Terri and Andrew. Warren Bowman even tweeted. I was excited that Andrew actually answered one of my tweets

My take was that the Castle timeline is different from ours. When the season started Beckett was in training about 2 months. So if we left off the beginning of May that puts us in mid-July. Then it's been approximately one month since the season began which would mean mid to late August which is about the time that the fall semester would start.
It's just been a little confusing since most Castle seasons pick up at the end of the summer but this one has been different. At least that's my interpretation of it.
I loved this episode and can't wait to get my iTunes download tomorrow so I can listen with headphones to catch anything I might have missed. The plot was intricate, the characters were interesting, and there was plenty of action to keep me wondering where it all was heading. Kate gives Rick such good advice, which he always seems to appreciate. I would like to say to Rick, welcome to the world of adult children, lol. They think they know it all, don't they? Alexis will come to realize that her dad isn't so dumb after all and will have a greater appreciation of his wisdom and life experience. This has been a great season so far.
I loved this episode Officially one of my favorites of the season so far and, perhaps of the series

I absolutely loved this episode. I think the season is remarkable in its own right and yet reminds me a lot of season 3. That being said I do have a couple of observations about the timeline. This episode was about time travel, so was there a continuity issue or did they mess with our minds a little to make us think we did some time traveling.
We know Watershed takes place in May and in Valkyrie, by the time Castle
Shows up in DC two months time have gone by. That was said at the beginning of scene two.
In Dreamworld when Beckett at Rick's bedside in the hospital, his heart monitor lists the date as 07/11/2013.
In Need To Know, when Rick and Martha are in his office talking about Pi and Alexis, the date can be seen on the TV during the report about the murder
It was October 7,2013. That would have brought us to real time for us. As far as I can remember, real time isn't typical for this show.
Tonight, October 7,2013 was also listed as the date an instead of Alexis knowing Pi for 6 months, Rick says she knew him for 1.
If it was a continuity issue, I say that sometimes these things happen and if it was going to seriously affect the plot, I'm sure it would have been fixed prior to airtime. As it stands, it's not the end of the world.
I catch these things more easily now that I'm writing scene by scenes, but I don't believe this is a deal breaker.
Now if they were trying to mess with us, maybe Simon's traveling back and forth threw off the space time continuum. Or it was some kind of brilliant foreshadowing.
Fun episode. Interesting Marlowe said that Simon tells us about Castle/Beckett's future. The timeline is messed up. Classes at Columbia start the Tuesday after Labor Day. It is what it is.
LOVE season 6! I'm delightfully delirious with joy! Loved this episode. Loved the case. Loved Castle & Alexis. I think they struck the right balance and the show is firing on all cylinders.
And the BAMF award goes to: Esposito. He rocked this episode exuding machismo to the nth degree. The dig at Kate. The backhand high five with Rick. The takedown. That shirt!
Can't wait 'til next week!

This was very well done. I'm still debating with myself on Doyle just being crazy or really from the future. Though I'm not a Dr. Who fan, I just loved the reference. I also loved the references to ST:DS9 with so many of our cast and crew. Tim Russ who played Tuvok the Vulcan was our murdered physics theorist. Of course, our Rick Berman was on the crew. Penny also played on show. And our guest stars Armann Shimmerman, Nana Vistor, and Michael Dorn also had roles. Checking the list of actors we had one with last name of Doyle. All nice references. Also loved that Doyle could reference Sir Arthur Conan Doyle of Sherlock Holmes fame.Poor Rick at the end. His baby bird is leaving the nest. Nathan just nailed that scene with that sad look and tears. He about had me tearing up there. Stellar performances by all the cast. Just loved Stana's looks in this one.
I'll enjoy watching this one again.

What happened to Kate's ring? Not on her finger and not even around her neck. She was wearing low cut tops that would have displayed the ring on a chain. Another reason Doyle was from the future. How would he even know they were going to get married without a ring showing?

I don't know if it was an intentional Voyager reference or just coincidence that I picked up on because of Russ but, at the end of one scene full of temporal babble Beckett rubs her forehead as if she's getting a headache. I immediately thought of Janeway - "the future's the past, the past the future; it all gives me a headache". I expect the "revelations" about future Beckett & Castle will be referred to periodically. Not sure I can see Kate ever going into politics, not after her stint in DC and how she feels about Bracken. Unless she finally manages to bring him & his cronies down publically and the governor appoints her to his seat (NY appoints someone to a Senate vacancy but no special election, they wait until the next general election to formally elect someone to fill the remainder of the vacant term). Then I could see her felling like she's making a difference and actively seeking to remain in office.
As for the real timeline, I agree that this must have been about a month after the time jump in the premier. Columbia starts classes around Labor Day. Dates on things were probably inserts based on when the episodes would air, plus the clothes jump from summer to fall & back, so it is confusing.
Should be interesting to see how the whole Alexis thing turns out. Not just moving in with Pi. As far as we know she's never worked other than as a volunteer. Anyway, glad Pi's finally out of the loft. Bad enough him being there but the whole "sleeping on the couch" stchick annoyed me. We know Castle has a guest room. I assume the point was to have him downstairs away from Alexis's room.

I loved Rick's olive jacket with the burgundy shirt near the end. Symbolically saying he's about love, his love for Kate and the new life that that love brings him and her.Alrighty, I've not read every post here. I simply need more time in the day. For anyone who cares, big houses are over-rated. They're a monster to clean, and well, I would rather be here, and about social business with friends. But I digress. At any rate....
Last night's episode rocked! I loved it! Season 6 is just rockin and on a roll! I'm LOVING this show, and I didn't think it was possible to love it more! But I do! MilMar and Bowman.... our stellar cast and crew.... well, some how, some way, I wish I could afford to buy a set visit because I seriously want to hug all their necks! They just bring their A-Game to us every week, and I couldn't love them all any more!
Right off the bat I want to put my two cents in regarding Alexis. Some of us were talking yesterday. I understand there are some issues with accepting this Alexis moving into an apartment with Pi situation, that it seems like it's not in her character, etc. While I have two sons, one a junior, almost senior, in college, and the other a junior in high school, no. I do not condone, nor would I condone, them moving in with their girlfriends. I didn't do it when I was young. HOWEVERRRRRR, I have learned in my almost 47 years, NEVER to say NEVER, and NEVER to judge. We have raised them a certain way, but we're also realists. And things happen; life happens. They make their choices.
With that being said, Alexis is trying to navigate growing up, figuring life out on her own, what works for her, how she feels about her dad and Kate, how/where she fits in, grieving the relationship that she had with him (maybe even not having to parent him anymore, lol...) lots of reasons why she is changing. Trying to figure out what it means to be in her own romantic relationship. She is a smart girl. She will figure things out, and she is going to be just fine. There is a message in here somewhere, and she will continue to be the best, young female role model on television. Let's wait to get the rest of the story. Her's isn't over yet, and will not be until the series ends. I totally can see this being in character for not only Alexis, but any intelligent young lady in her position. Let's face it, we have all made mistakes, choices we wish we hadn't, but yet taught us valuable lessons. She is young. She is learning. Standing by and letting them grow up and figure things out in their own way, in their own time is sometimes the best that we have. And sometimes my boys have taught me things, and I/we have come out of a situation learning something valuable which wouldn't have happened had we stifled them and insisted they do things our way. And most times forcing them to do what you want them to do, or think they should do, is not a good idea. It's like forcing love. Forced love is no love at all.
And I have to say, as a parent in the ball park of where Castle's at with this, his "too soon" and facial expression about killed me last night. Parenting is such a fantastic, wonderfully elating, and heart-wrenching experience, all at the same time! I so understand.
Anyway, I'm no expert. Those are just my two cents.
I loved the case! I loved the quirkyness of it, the banter it produced, the fabulous quips, one-liners, and cute actions by our team in dealing with each other while trying to solve this case, I loved the possibility of magic, that some things cannot be explained.
I loved the coffee spill by Kate at the end. That our actions, choices... no matter how small, can have a rippling affect; an effect on down the road, or for years to come.
I think Castle should be allowed to carry a back-up piece! Just sayin'. He can shoot. He's proved it. Let him pass a test!
Joshua Gomez rocked his part!
And I've already mentioned the cool paisley shirt Espo wore, and Ryan's dapper suit. Luke is rockin' the wardrobe!
Loved the team back at the 12th! Love Beckett back at her desk. But, where was Sully?
GREAT stuff!
Andrew? Set visit? Please? I'll bring cookies!! I want to hug you for all the awesomeness, smiles and friends you've brought me through Castle! Heh. Too much?
Well, I can't say this was one of my favorite episodes. There were moments I loved, and the character of Simon Doyle was portrayed perfectly to support both Castle's belief and Kate's resolute skepticism. Was he crazy and delusional, or impassioned and dedicated? I wonder. But I have to say, I wanted a stronger, plausible explanation for everything. Episodes such as Demons, He Said/She Said, Close Encounters, Scared to Death, etc, all ended with a 90% logical resolution and a 10% indication of an otherworldly influence. Castle had just enough evidence to justify his continued belief, while Kate got her concrete evidence and kept the show rooted in the real world. For the first time, I felt like the show actually did "go there," by leaving so many questions unexplained, and I'm not sure I like that.
As some people have already heard, ad nauseam, this episode convinced me that I don't like the current Castle/Alexis storyline. I really tried to agree with the plausible explanations we've collectively concocted to explain her behavior, but I just don't see how those catalysts (e.g. her kidnapping, Caskett's engagement, teenage rebellion, etc), can so utterly supersede the very powerful motivations Alexis has always possessed to be responsible, a good student, mature, and generally unlike most of her peers. I can't believe the girl who researched stats on long-distance relationships would not have looked up the equally compelling and overwhelming empirical evidence against casually living with a boyfriend. It makes her far more educationally, emotionally, and financially vulnerable than I think Alexis (even conflicted, adrift Alexis) would ever allow herself to be.
And yes, I kind of expected Castle to do more to stop her. I don't care if she is 19, she is still his daughter, and she needs to appreciate that her old man knows what he's talking about. Living one's own life is no excuse for acting irresponsibly and putting one's future at risk, while also discrediting one's parent when that parent has been far more attentive, wise, committed, and unconditionally supportive that he is ever given credit for. When Alexis tried to call him out on his similar actions at her age, he needed to say, "Yes, and look at how that relationship ended, as well as every other one I've had up til now. It's taken me 40+ years to learn how to have a healthy relationship, in part because I looked for that immediate gratification rather than plan and prepare for something better."
He also should have asked her what her emotional investment is in her relationship with Pi. Does she love him? Is she envisioning a long-term future with him? Is this a trial run for marriage, or a no-strings sexual arrangement? Is she just looking for a roommate? Is she bank-rolling him? Is she using him for sex? And does Pi view their arrangement the same way? Those are absolutely critical questions Castle has every right to ask and Alexis should have answers to if she's thought about this as much as she claims. I know we're not going to get that conversation, but I don't like seeing the "normalization" of a cultural practice that has proven to be so detrimental, particularly to young women.
On the positive side, I love seeing Castle and Kate so absolutely, mutually, and unreservedly committed to their relationship. A few months ago, Kate was lamenting that they never talked about their future, while simultaneously not taking the chance to bring it up herself. I think we can safely say that the debacle with Kate keeping her interview to herself would never happen now. Looking back through season five, we can see that they never once did talk about the future. They moved day to day, and week to week happy and together, with no expectation of breaking up, nor waiting for the axe to fall, but also not confident enough to broach anything beyond the next weekend or night together. Now, that underlying, silent hesitance is gone. The rest of their lives is now a given, and they're excited about that and committed to it in a way I suppose only engagement can ensure.
So yes, I guess I have some gripes about this episode, and the parent, the feminist, and the cultural studies instructor in me wanted more weight given to Alexis' choices. Conversely I suppose, I wanted less weight given to the time travel theory. That said, the episode was fun and entertaining in a very classic Castle way, and I hope that proves enough to let me enjoy it more down the road.

Right from the get go, they were so clever with symbolism, all the little tidbits they threw us along the way...you guys have pretty much said it all...Yes, WHAT A GREAT SHOW!!!!
I guess in regards to Alexis, we now see what a calming influence Kate is in on Rick. She helps him to cope with the past, allowing him to open up about how he misses the old days with her and, then, she becomes the wife and soul mate who quickly shows empathy for him, but reminds him that this is Alexis' journey and how she needs to see how this fits in to her life. We have all had a chat like that with our loved ones and it demonstrates that Kate has crossed over and now is Rick's "other half", the one who completes him. and
the one who helps him deal with the reality of the situation, while giving him hope for the future they are about to embrace together. She reminds him that she is involved now in this and he understands. Wow has she changed. I love the flower that has bloomed. And I have to say that I love the fact the she still has her own place. It keeps the edge on the relationship and keeps them both grounded and wanting more till they get married and move in together permanently. IT IS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR IN REGARDS TO TODAY'S SOCIETY NORMS ON MOVING INTO TOGETHER. They keep their space, and that draws them in closer. Love it.
Alrighty, I've not read every post here.
Heh. Too much?
I just mention that because Kates's love has gotten him to a point where he can and will deal with Alexis because he knows that he has Kate to lean on now. She is wise and as always, presents the other side of the coin. It really steadies him. Right now, he is about as strong a leading man as there is in show business.
And if there is a better character actor than Joshua Gomez on TV, I would love to meet him. He wa so amazing in this role. I had to remind myself about mid way through the show that they were all working on the same case!!! And Marlowe times his "disapearences" at jus the right time. I think Kate really liked this guy from the point that he said they had 3 kids. It peaked her interest. We got a glimpse at that moment that Kate is rethinking everything concerning her career. She wants more. She didn't flinch at "Senator Beckett", so that tells me that it is in her mind. I loved that. This was another way for Marlowe to allow us to get into Kate's mind without her talking. Brilliant. Just Brilliant. And Rick was proud of Senator Beckett. Foreshadowing at it's best. There are other ways to get to DC and Marlowe reminds of that. It is a stepping stone to the Supreme Court.
I loved your take here CK. And by the time Simon had dissapeared for the second time and Kate had spilled the coffee, allowing her jaw to drop on the desk, I realized what a special and meaningful episode this was. And oh yes...."see you in 20 years?........" Wow What would be cool would be when they go to take Ward and he is gone.....Lyle Lovett had nothing on this episode.
I think this is Nathan's finest acting this season. He has embraced his role, made the adjustments and just owns the part. He, like Stana, have evolved their roles into these amazing characters, who now know who they are and where they are going. We forget, Rick struggled for so long with the notion that loving Kate just was not possible. For some reason, he always felt that she wasn't interested and he couldn't fit into her world, while all the while, he was dying to tell her how much he loved her. He just felt she wouldn't hear it. Thank God for Martha, who kept pushing him to do the "Right Thing".

The foreshadowing! INDEED! TOTALLY brilliant!!
Kman, you sent me into a giggle FIT with your "Schtick" of choking the Mrs.! What a hoot! I'm reminded of the scene from Eye of the Beholder when Kate won't let Castle into the interrogation room to question Serena Kaye because he was kissing her to distract her. He mimics strangling Kate and that's one of the funniest physical comedy moments of the series.

I had totAlly forgotten about that....insanely funny!!!
Let's not forgot how he taunted the bomb after disarming it...so many great moments.

Sometimes, I love just listening to the dialogue without watching. Often times, I hear a subtle nuance of tone or pitch of voice, or just the line stands out cause we've heard it before. This time, it was Alexis at the end saying "This is my life." Oh gee, we've heard that before...from someone else who nearly let the pride, stubbornness, and determination behind that line destroy her literally and metaphorically--Kate. So many times she said that and it was to Rick as she suggested that he stay out of her personal space (literal and mentally and emotionally) all the while trying to go it alone and solve her mom's case regardless of who she hurt in the process. As the virtue says, pride goeth before a fall. Kate's pride in wanting to solve her mom's case and not accept help from Rick or anyone else nearly was her fall, permanently. Her pride made her reckless, uncaring and uncompassionate as it set her on a path to ultimate destruction. For her sin of pride she died, but as fate would have it, she was too important to remain that way, and was granted a pardon for her sin and released from eternal prison to survive and right the wrongs she had done to those around her that love her. Now, she's learned that lesson and is less apt to say "I" when it should be "we". Yes, she still values her space, and don't we all, but she now understands that she can have her space and be "I", all the while that she is a part of "we". She knows that in serious love, as she has with Rick, that compromises must be made, he must be included in decisions even if she doesn't think it involves him. What happens to and affects her automatically happens to and affects him.
Alexis will need to learn the lessons that Kate has if she is to be successful in her decisions. Right now, Alexis thinks she knows it all, determined to show her dad that 'it's my life' and as an adult she can do it by herself. In essence, she's taken off the training wheels and is riding the bike herself all the while telling Rick that I can do it myself, you don't have to push the back of the bike to get me started. She has learned how to fly from him and now flies by herself. Baby bird has left the nest and Rick now has to face letting her go on her own. He wants to protect her but the fact is now, that she has to protect herself. The name Alexis is, of course, a form of Alexander, which means "protector". Alexis has lived her life in the "castle" if you will being guarded by "the king"; now she has left the protection of the castle and has to make her own protection, her own life outside the castle. She is on her own as a knight of the realm.
Will she meet with pitfalls, of course. Will she make poor choices, perhaps. Alexis is a smart, intuitive, perceptive, and calculating young lady who is wise beyond her years in some ways, all the while thoroughly being immersed in the mentality of her age. It's up to her to decide what her choices are, take responsibility for her actions, and accept how those choices will affect her life. She has to think what ramifications will result because of what she does. Rick's sorrow is letting his little girl go out of his protection and management and accepting that she is a young lady who needs her space to grow. Rick had to do the same thing with Kate through the course of their relationship. He had to learn how to ease up, let her grow and heal so that she could become even more extraordinary than he knew she was. He had to give her the space, in so many ways, that she needed. And now, she still has her space in the form of her own apartment. They are separate but together. They each have their own spaces, but they are united. Says so much about their relationship in many ways.
In a way, to summarize this thought, this is where Kate and Alexis are different but the same. Alexis is going through the normal process of self discovery and growing up, just as Kate would have if her mom wasn't killed. But for Kate, on the other hand, she's has had to go through all that all the while she was trying to manage her feelings for Rick. Kate's emotional development was stunted by the death of her mom. When she met Rick, she had to go back to that point, back to 19 years old, and start fresh. She had to rediscover herself at that age and then go forward. She had to go through what Alexis is now, and then add to it by accepting her feelings for Rick and grow into those emotions from a more juvenile aspect to an adult aspect. No wonder Kate had such a time of self reflection, healing, and growth. She had to go through what we all go through in years in a more contracted way because she knew she had to get herself right before she continued with Rick. She wanted to make herself right quickly because she knew time was running out, the countdown was on, if she wanted to keep Rick.
In short, Alexis is Kate if Kate hadn't lost her mom. Kate is now Alexis having learned the lessons she should have back at age 19 and then growing to adulthood. The two are images of the same person more or less, at different stages in life. All about the voyage of life, as is the theme of this episode. The circle of life....
