Tonight's episode is Number One Fan." I dare say we can ALL relate to that one!
The word from up North is that we have a classic Castle episode and that there will be much rejoicing in Mudville! Please come back later and share your take on the episode.
Just finished watching, that was a great episode, absolutely great
It was so fun! Loved it!
Absolutely fantastic episode! Definitely one of my top 10 favorite Castle episodes.
If this is the direction S6 is going, this is going to be a great year!
And a time-traveling suspect next week. Castle is going to have a field day with that one.
The episode was awesome. Case was good and Caskett moments were really good.

Awesome episode. Just waiting for the favorite scenes to be posted. Glad to have Beckett back at her old job Far better episode for me. Best of the season so far. The DC arc didn't really do it for me.
Getting back to their roots and you could feel the interplay and fun between the primary cast.
Loved when Espo pointed out to Beckett that she wasn't actually a cop and therefore not able to order them around. Even the new team member - Sully - with his awkward efforts to fit in worked.
As a special mention I loved Beckett's outfit with the green trousers/leggings and jumper. This combine with plenty of believable couple moments worked for me.
Loved the opening scene in bed with Castle giving us the proper terminology for "sleep talking." Pi is annoying. He needs to go. Was glad to hear he was sleeping on the couch. LOVED Kate's face when she tasted Martha's coffee.
Some comments about Gates - In Need to Know last week, Gates approached Ryan and Esposito and asked them something about filling out the paper work for the case (which they obviously weren't). They said "yes" and she said, "Carry on." You could tell she knew what they were doing, but gave them no hassle about it. In that moment, she reminded me of Montgomery, how he would look the other way some times. Then tonight, she let's Kate work the case unofficially. They share a drink together (something else Beckett and Montgomery did). Gates subtly put the pressure on Stokes so that Beckett could be rehired. But the biggest change overall to me was her attitude towards Castle. Calling for him and letting him in on the case, wanting to hear his crazy theories, and letting him come back to the 12th with Beckett. I'm starting to actually like her. I hope we see more of this Gates on a regular basis.
Loved Kate's look of joy, her smiles, when she got to help with the case. And that look on her face at the end when she pulls out her badge - so sweet! Laughed out loud at quite a few of Ryan and Espo's lines. Sorry, but I don't like the Sully character. He doesn't seem to add much to the story.
Castle's one liners tonight were great. "She dotted the i." "Cheeseburgers!" Loved that Kate knew that about him. The kiss at the precinct was so very sweet (a little more light wouldn't hurt, though).
It is so great to see the team back together again. Even Lanie! A well-done episode with a great case. I actually was caught up in the case this week which usually doesn't happen.
Season 6 is awesome so far and I can not wait to see more! I love this show!
Loved every minute of this one! HUGE kudos to the actress who played Emma, the gal who was framed for the murder. She was incredible with her intensity and emotion and I became totally invested in her case, which is unusual for me.
The opening bed scene was really good, especially as it revealed how Kate was feeling about being fired and unemployed. It also told us a few things, like - she had tried to get hired back at the 12th already, that she's always been a working girl, that she still has her old place, that she sure isn't looking for Castle to be her sugar daddy, and that Martha must not make very good coffee. Despite the fact that I have very little use for Pi, I did like him addressing Kate as Mrs. C to be.
Another lovely scene was Kate helping Castle get his vest on before going into the dental office. Her concern was so evident as she caressed his back and then we also got the beautiful comment, "I'm looking forward to spending the rest of my life with you ...." It was cleverly entwined with the typical Castle humor as he went overboard in choosing a favorite food and then commented about having filled his "stupid" quota for the day.
I was totally happy with Captain Gates throughout the episode. Kate looked empowered as she strode away, ready to go help with the investigation and then Gates again trusted the expanded team back at the precinct to carry on and get to the bottom of this. Perhaps her finest moment for me though, was when she told Ryan and Esposito that she would question Stokes because she did not want their jobs endangered if there was backlash. Now THAT'S a leader I can respect!
Besides the great acting of Emma, her scenes were also special because of the way Castle respected her and his demeanor around her. Nathan played those scene flawlessly with his soft voice and understanding looks. Castle proved himself, yet again, to be a capable asset in a tough situation but there was still that touch of humor, like when he turned to the hostages and said he was cutting back on red meat.
I think my very favorite scenes were when Castle got shot and then right after that back at the precinct. Castle popping up and exclaiming, "Cheeseburger!" actually got a snort from me and then the pained expressions from both him and Kate as she hugged him were hysterical. Of course, he'd be impressed that she doted the I on his vest. I love that they followed through on his pain for the rest of the episode as Kate brought him ice and then he was in pain again when Emma hugged him later. Another priceless moment was when Kate automatically ordered the boys to go search the apartment again and Espo reminded her that she didn't work there anymore.
I liked the character of Stokes. I presumed he was a power hungry jerk but he turned out to be a great guy. I also appreciated how Ryan went toe to toe with the murderous lawyer and then, when the time came to break him, it was Ryan and Espo who did it.
It's been a while for me, but I was brought to tears by the ending of this one. First, there was the touching scene as Emma met her father and he wished her a happy birthday. Then, when Kate announced her return to the 12th, the response was so genuinely happy from everyone. I loved it and it felt like coming home to me too. Loved the reference to The Old Haunt and sneaking in the kiss at the precinct before they were officially back on duty.
All is right in my Castle world now! Kate and Castle are back as partners at the 12th and they're deeply in love and totally committed to spending the rest of their lives together. Awesome episode!
Really loved this one. Really got the couples touches right. I can't tell you how many times my wife has turned to me in bed and asked " are you awake?" Also, as nathanfan stated, the way Kate straightened his collar and the back of his vest was perfect. Finally, when he went in the first time you could see the concern on Kate's face and she was playing with the ring. Great touch.

I loved this episode. It is my number 1 so far this season. I loved the suspense and the Caskett moments. Castle's loft is like Grand Central Station. The first three episodes was funny but I think it has run its course. I think Alexis needs to go back to the dorm and Pi wherever and get a job. I think another episode and hopefully Castle will finally put his foot down. Beckett look very pretty tonight she always got it going on. I just feel like the happiness she has now is shining and its making her look awesome! When I see her enter the room in that first episode so dark and full of void till now. The change in her has made a difference and I think she looks wonderful and she smiling more. Love the wall being gone!
I am glad Beckett is back with the NYPD it is where she belongs until the show ends then she can get promoted or go become a DA or whatever. Our world is back to normal so glad that Gates allowed Castle to come back with her. The team is back!!
Great Great A+
One more thing. I really love how the relationship is being portrayed. I think we got a bit of foreshadowing about the issues coming up. The crowd at the loft, Lanie's comments about wedding planning and Ryan's comments about babies. Though I don't think any of it will lead to a major fight. We'll see. Also, is it just me, or does it seem like all the recent Lanie conversations either cause trouble or are about trouble?
This was a great episode. Vintage Castle. Well written, extremely well acted and that separation that the ARC kind of promorted is slowly fading away.
That bedroom scene reminded me of a Marx Bros. movie. The more people came in, the more Kate disappeared behind the coffee mug and under the covers. She wants to sleep at her place and Rick echos the same. I loved the controlled chaos and Martha, to me steals the scene, as she portrays the star struck, half crazed ninja. But these people just keep coming in and each with a different agenda. It's hilarious. To a clearly embarrassed Beckett, Martha echos the sentiment that it's nothing she hasn't seen before, hinting that both Meredith and Gina could not escape hurricane Martha as well. Oh God Kate, what have you gotten yourself into. For being so private..she was exposed bigtime!!! LMFAO.
By letting Kate know that Gate's call is for Castle, Alexis drives home the point that she is in limbo, but also it lets us understand that Gate's hasn't given up on her either. She wants Beckett back, but needs to find her own "Sugar Daddy"to make that happen. Kate is invited to work and keep Castle stable. Gates knows that together, Castle and Beckett are her secret weapon and they make her look good.
Kate seems to have handled her firing really well. Partly because she knew she had issues with the job, and partly because Castle has been so supportive throughout this entire ordeal. The universe stepped in and now is about to bring her back home full circle. She really wants to come back and it becomes more evident throughout the show how much. The guys love working with her and Castle, but I love how Espo keeps reminding her that she can't boss him around and also he has his new toy, Sully to mentor.
The DC job has made her a better, for use of a better word, "Detective" and she also, because she knows CAstle so well, can ground him thoughout this episode. I guess Cheeseburger is the new "Nutmeg". Sorry Meredith, but Kate knows her man pretty well.
What I loved is Rick looking for the truth and not so much the story. He feels compassion and has taken a page out of the Beckett Bible to make sure that Justicee is served. These two are becoming "One" and it suits them.
The one thing I feel strongly about is that Kate can never go back.......
TO HER OLD DESK!!!!!!
Oh God Sully.....what a slob you are. Castle commented that "I think that was a bagel".... I get the feeling that if Kate had gone into her old desk drawers, she would have found an old pastrami on rye that vaguely resembles a Chia Pet......Uggggghhhhhhhhh
Gates is looking good in the blue.....liking her....at least for now.
We still saw some separation with Ryan and Espo on their own, and I expect we will see more of that as characters develop more throughout the year.
Loved that Rick had his "I" dotted. He is not a virgin anymore. And Nathan's comedic genus shines through as Cheeseburger gets blurted out in his dreams..... But please, can we stop killing our boy for a while now.
Kate is very protective of Castle and Rick is perfectly content to give Kate the space she needs to live. He never pushes her. He just wants her to be "Her" He is truly is ecstatic in the final scene that she will be back where she can do the most good in life for now. And we don't know for sure who's idea it was to bring Castle back, but I suspect it was Gates who gave her blessing along with the engagement present.
It becomes increasingly evident that Alexis and Pi are on their way out. And she is about to become Dad's worst nightmare because he remembers himself at that age.
Other than that, I loved the ending. Truly Kate is respected and loved at the 12th and the folks are very happy for her. And she knows she has been given a second chance and she looks grateful. This is where she belongs. She has nothing left to prove to anyone, including herself. Rick just knows she is awesome.
Need to watch it again. Great case, better ending, awesome Castle.....it has been on hiatus long enough. Lets have some fun.......
Loved the episode.

I loved Number One Fan. This type of episode is why I watch Castle! The dynamic between the team is so fun to watch. I didn't love the DC arc, so I'm glad to see the shift back to the 12th. The actress playing Emma did a great job. Also, I was pleased that the real estate/politician Dad wanted to get to know his daughter. That was icing on the cake. The throw back comments to Cops and Robbers were also enjoyable. Yes, indeed, nathanfan1, there is much, much joy in Mudville...with Castle and Beckett at bat, hitting a grand slam! From the very opening with Kate tentatively tapping on Rick's shoulder to see if he was awake to the end with Kate's beaming smile, badge in hand...Don't have time to expound and you've all touched on the many aspects that made this a truly marvelous episode...so much laughter and love and great interplay amongst all the characters...and a great case...the actress playing Emma was incredible and just brought her character to life and made her so believable...and I still like Sully and his comic relief... Gates was great, too...I'm still perplexed by the lack of Lainie (but am trying to stay spree) so hopefully she'll show up soon so we can enjoy her.
Okay, peeps! How AWESOME was this episode? HUH? OMG OMG OMG! I LOVEDDDDDDDD it! From start to finish!!!!!!!!!!!!
From the second it opened - poor Emma frantically dashing about the apartment - you could feel her desperation! And that vibe from her continued throughout the episode! I want to quickly say, I was emotionally caught up in her story! I felt her pain, her pleas, everything, and I believed she was innocent from the get-go! I bawled when her father introduced himself, and when he hugged her. I was totally wrapped up in this case. And that is not the norm for me. That, coupled with my love for the show and dynamics of the cast, had me totally engulfed. What a great episode!
With that, I want to give kudos to the actress who play Emma! STELLAR performance!
Now, onto our beloved cast.
Awesome to see Lanie back! Feels like 'home' with everyone in this episode! Love hers and the boys teasing about wedding plans, etc. The classic Castle 'procedure' was comforting to me last night.
I ADORED the opening bedroom scene! Not just that they were in bed together, but all the adorableness of them, and the hilarity that ensued with Pi waltzing in (he needs to go, just saying), followed by Martha with her hair all up in that bandana (hilarious) and the apparently awful coffee that she brought! hahahahaha... Kate's face told it all! And I love how Kate at one point tried to hunker down below the covers! SO cute!
Back to Pi, and for that matter, Sully, for a minute. I know I'm not alone in my thoughts. But neither of them are doing anything for me. They're just 'there'. They're not working for me. I know that Marlowe has a reason for everything, and the end of their stories have not yet come, as they are still on the show, but so far, I'm just annoyed by them. I don't see where Sully has contributed anything that couldn't have been done without him there. I hope Kate gets a new desk, but in the same spot. I'm not opposed to change, but she just needs her spot back. But a clean desk. lol... And Pi... well, okay. We'll wait 'n see. Alexis is a little bit of a mystery to me right now. But, I'm sure this will all come full circle soon enough.
OKay.... more favorite moments....
Kate not being able to take her hands off Castle's back/writer vest. Before the cheeseburger moment.
Her playing with her engagement ring as she was leaning on the police car as Castle was going into the dental office.
Her overall love in her eyes, expressions on her face, relaxed demeanor in her love for him despite her fear for Castle's life.
Kate's dynamic with the boys - bossing them, and them calling her out on it. The regular team/foursome, just warms my heart.
I loved Castle's excitement regarding getting shot! And him bragging about his vest at the end! TOO cute!
I loved Gate's role in this episode. I love how she conveyed her belief, trust, and caring for Kate, and Castle, too. And for her whole team, wanting to protect them, when it came to interrogating Aaron.
I loved how Castle related to Emma.
And all the callbacks to Cops & Robbers - the hostage situation, Kate being on the outside feeling helpless, the seizure trick...
Castle bringing donuts.... His ...'they're donuts. Either you're in or you're not' comment! Hilarious!
I adored Ryan & Espo's interrogation of "the lawyer"... do lawyers have a lawyer comment! SO funny!
And, I have to mention.... it's not exclusive to this episode, but does anyone else dig Ryan's swagger? Maybe that's just how Seamus walks. But I love how he has that little swagger about him! Adorable!
ANDDDDDDDDDDDDDD.............. HOW ABOUT THAT KISS! THAT PRECINCT KISS!! OMG OMG OMG! THAT ROCKED!
Okay.... That's all I got for now. Maybe another cup of coffee is in order. Because I feel like I"m missing something.
This season is ROCKIN'! CASTLE IS BACK ~ BETTER THAN EVER! AS IF that was even possible! WoW!
OH! And one more thing!
GATES & KATE SHARING A DRINK??? That wasn't a beer! That was like, scotch or something!
LOVE IT!
Okay, carry on, citizens.

SPOILER-SISTERS-UNITE! Waahahahahahaha.....
*whispers to you*... that Spree thing was sheer madness. Never doing that again. *giggle*
Sister, sister, just like Beckett in DC, you had to see if the grass was greener on the other side and now that you've proven your point, you can come back into the arms of the people that love you - your spoilerholic friends! Yes, it feels like home on so many levels.
Now, we need 3XK to kill Bracken thus preventing him from ruining whatever 3XK plans. Then, our four...'CBER' gets rid of 3XK permanently! Yep...Season Six has a great future.
CASTLE, Season 6, is, well, awesomesauce—but for me, Seasons 1-5 have been awesomesauce, too!!! Episode 6x04 NUMBER ONE FAN is no different!!! Captivating from the beginning, it’s again a joy to savor Stana and Nathan mine every nuance—comic and serious—true of the work of all of our regular cast, Susan, Seamus, Jon, Tamala, Molly, and Penny!!! Even the insufferable Pi is wonderfully played by Myko!!! Detective “Sully’s” disordered desk hardly dampens his devotion to the team and his dedicated, detective work—he laughs at Rick’s jokes, too!!!
I just can’t get over this amazing blend of talent—show runner and head writer, Andrew W. MARLOWE and his entire team—writers, directors, producers, set director, costume design and hair and makeup, music choices and composing, lighting, cinematography, editing—thank you to the cast and crew!!! As with each week, every spoken word, expression, tone, movement, and gesture tells this “great love story”!!!
What’s not to love about Kate’s and Rick’s every exchange, beginning as Kate, not without a job outside the home since age fifteen, needing to know what to do about her life?! “CASTLE, are you asleep?
“Yes.
“Then why did you answer?
“I’m sleep-talking, otherwise known solimnoquy.”
Kate can’t wait around, sleeping, for a call to define her day. “What am I gonna do? Just sleep in every morning and screw around till the phone rings? What kind of life is that?” Rick responds that that is his life and that Kate is with him and can take her time, as she doesn’t need to work. Kate questions, “Does that make you my Sugar Daddy?” Uh, oh….
Clad only in a towel, Pi barges into their bedroom, seeking a razor, because Alexis freaks when he uses hers, “Wow, even when you’re fighting you two are super cute. Mr. C, Mrs. C to be…” Rick’s reaction and Kate’s wave—convey—lost on Pi, of course, how cringe-worthy his is!!! Martha, dazzlingly clad speaks of "nothing I haven’t seen and done,” offers coffee which yields a grimace from Kate, and announces a combat class, which will be held, not of course, at her acting studio but in the next room—very soon!!! What more could transpire in these few, episode-opening minutes?! As Kate reaches eagerly for a phone call from Sir GATES, Alexis hands the phone to the person to whom GATES needs to speak, her father, Rick!!!
What charming and revealing role reversals as Kate is CASTLE’S tagalong; slips with RYAN and ESPO, forgetting that she is not their team leader. “You do remember that you don’t work here anymore”!!! By episode’s end, they speak of missing her and of the fun they’ve had working together!!! ESPO beams; and RYAN, to precinct cheers, announces that BECKETT is back!!!
CASTLE plays trivia with hostage holder, guest star, Alicia LAGANO, who is excellent, as is the actor playing her long sought birth father, played wonderfully by Tom AMANDES—the interesting, full of twists, case and the whole story unfold—within the suspense of CASTLE “going in” to save hostages!!!
The looks exchanged between Kate and Rick rock, as always!!! Kate declares, “I’m kinda looking forward to spending the rest of my life with you; so don’t do anything stupid in there.” Wearing her engagement ring, nervously twisting it, as she worries about CASTLE'S being with the hostages, Kate earlier assists with and gently touches CASTLE’S, of course, proven invaluable, WRITER vest!!!
Welcome back, Lanie/Tamala—always missed when not in an episode!!! Love the converstaion with Lanie re: wedding planning and RYAN’S comment that ten minutes after you leave the altar, people will be asking, “When are you going to have a baby?” Equally special are BECKETT’S expressions during these exchanges!!!
GATES is, as always, amazing, "Mr. CASTLE, I have learned not to discount your little theories, no matter how fanciful." She is obviously pleased to allow Kate—BAMF Kate—to work the crime scene and to do the STOKES interrogation/interview with her, albeit, sans CASTLE—wise “choice” on his part!!! GATES and BECKETT share a drink, call back to the MONTGOMERY relationship and style of management—and STOKES’ connections lead to finding, despite the commissioner’s hiring freeze, money for BECKETT to return to her job at the 12th!!!
What love and joy for Kate, Rick, and the entire team, as Kate’s wields her badge, “I’m back”—and she can’t contain her own love, joy, and pride—CASTLE is back as civilian consultant, too!!! Proud, happy, loving CASTLE proclaims, “Drinks on the house at The Old Haunt”!!! With one more day before they are officially at work and behaving professionally, Kate and Rick share a thrilled kiss at the precinct!!!
Really liked how the ending tied up a lot of loose ends. Not only is Beckett back at the 12th but Castle's officially a consultant (probably $1/year and finally some official ID). And their status is acknowledged and OK with the powers that be as long as they keep it professional.
As for Gates, it took her a while to get out of the IA mindset, and I suspect to accept that they had some secret concerning Montgomery that they wouldn't/couldn't share with her. She clearly had great respect for Kate's abilities, if not always her methods (the suspension) and likely realized after they were gone just how effective Beckett & Castle are together. Plus Gates being instrumental in getting the friend of the PC to pull the strings to get Beckett back in spite of a hiring freeze is IMO a better way to go than if Castle had talked to his friend the Mayor; no issue of going over the PC's head.
Sister, sister, just like Beckett in DC, you had to see if the grass was greener on the other side and now that you've proven your point, you can come back into the arms of the people that love you - your spoilerholic friends! Yes, it feels like home on so many levels.
Loved, loved, loved this episode. It had everything, humor, warmth, Caskett and a nice mystery. Great scenes throughout the show...Kate in bed trying to cover up from the parade, cheeseburger, Kate playing with her engagement ring. Did I say that I love this episode.
My favorite aspect of the show is the coming together of a group of strangers to form a family. The bedroom scene at the beginning with the kids and grandma bursting in is so reminiscent of family life. Rick's used to it although annoyed but it's all new to Kate. And we see a similar scene at the 12th with mom and dad returning.
Yep, this episode is one for the record books. Not only did it place Castle front and center of a case, a place we rarely see him, but it brought the whole team back together and elicited those bittersweet feelings of nostalgia for what once was. It must have been especially hard on Beckett to fluctuate between excitement of working a case with her team, worry over Castle placing himself in a dangerous situation, and sadness that her return is so temporary. And you could see those same feelings reflected on everyone's face as the day wore on. They were back -- but only for a little while.
I'm sure it also helped Kate get over her disappointment at being fired from the FBI. She knew she didn't belong in Washington. It was fun and novel for a while, but she has to have known it would have gotten old sooner or later. She just didn't fit in.
Which is all why it was so, so very sweet at the end when Gates saw an opening and took full advantage of it to get her best detective back in the precinct. For a moment, though, it was interesting to see those two powerful, determined, brilliant women on more equal footing. While Gates will always be "Captain" to Kate, the reality is that in those few minutes, Kate was not in a subordinate position. She and Gates were more equal than they'd ever been, especially as a mere week earlier, Kate was technically the higher ranking official. That was a rare and interesting dynamic to see.
Like everyone else, I was so impressed with the balance between instability and vulnerablity that was brought to the character of Emma. I suspected from the start she was innocent, especially as her credibility began to unravel. I had no idea how or why she was innocent, but I trusted Castle to figure it out! I was even more impressed to see a tv show deal with the issue of mental illness and highlight the automatic suspicion of someone's credibility based on the knowledge they use a prescription medication. It's a delicate topic, but Castle seemed to handle it better than most, which we should have known to expect given "Kill Shot" and Kate's PTSD.
Finally, I don't think I can say we've ever had such a consistently amazing string of episodes, especially to kick off the season. The show is truly batting a thousand so far, which is simply amazing given we're the second year into the "end" of the sexual tension. But the relationship is so incredibly fulfilling that it's almost hard to remember there was a time when Kate pretended to barely tolerate Castle's interference. Now, she proudly wears an engagement ring and will soon be planning a wedding with no doubts about the stability or longevity of their relationship. Yes, there is an element of cliche involved, as if dating, engagement, marriage is the only acceptable course for a couple to take, but the level of professional admiration, mutual support, and unwavering commitment these two now bring to their relationship is a true example of what our society needs more of. These two are truly equal partners, which is still something we still see far too rarely today.
So, yes, count this as an all-around epic episode. Even Pi, who I honestly find as amusing as he is annoying, didn't come close to ruining it for me. In fact, I love that opening scene, because I know what it's like to have a full house, with people walking in, tripping over each other, invading privacy, and getting in each others' way. That's life, and for me, it's part of Castle and Beckett's life that is well worth seeing!

Great episode all the way around. The ending scene when Beckett tells everyone she is back was really well done and acted by the whole cast. Looking forward to having the team back together.Oct 15, 2013 19:25:14 GMT -5 @daph said:
Yea great job I am so glad to see Kate so comfortable with Castle now and they no longer have to hide their relationship. Good to see the gang back together again. I cannot stand Pi and cannot wait to see the end of him especially how he was the first one to intrude on Beckett and Castle private moments together Although I have enjoyed the first 3 episodes, it's good to be back at the 12th with the whole gang in tact. On the home front, Pi doesn't bother me like he does most people. He just needs to have someone take him aside and give him a refresher on the rules of common courtesy and boundaries. Since we don't know anything about him, he might never have had anyone teach him those things. As my mother-in-law used to say, "And this too shall pass."
Seeing how Rick and Kate interact with each other is a sight to behold. I love how they actually talk about things now and are always trying to show the love to one another. It's a beautiful thing. If this keeps up, the rest of the season should truly be fantastic. On a side note, I had a follow-up periodontal appointment this afternoon (what a coincidence) and was disappointed Richard Castle didn't come running in to make sure we were all OK, lol!

I just re-watched, and noticed that Rick said that the bullet is going to leave a mark. Interesting--it will be right in the same vicinity as Kate's bullet scar. Oct 15, 2013 23:01:14 GMT -5 @tiff098765 said:
Pi & Sully must have a purpose beyond comic relief. Kate went to DC, and their team added a person. Alexis went to Costa Rica, & their family gained a person. I don't think that either character is permanent, but dealing with them will cause Castle & Beckett to deal with issues they haven't had to before. This is new territory, so we'll get to see them in parenting mode, both with newbie detective to mentor & Lex's irrational attraction to Pi. It's all about the character development, y'all.Such a fun episode! Cuteness, suspense, mystery and total heart!
Loved Kate unsure about herself with no job, so vulnerable, so un-Kate-like. Great to see so many layers to her personality. Loved her pure joy about getting her job back. Loved seeing her gentle tender caresses of Castle's vest and her worried ring-twisting.
Loved Castle's ability to connect with the suspect and take command of the situation. Loved his "cheeseburger!" shout. So great!
But...Pi has to go. He's annoying and taking up valuable airtime. He makes Alexis look like a caricature. She can still be trying to figure out herself without losing her intelligence and inner voice. Pi is ridiculous.
I'm not jiving on Sully either. The family is just back together and Sully seems so out of place and unnecessary. But whatever...
Season 6 rocks!!

I agree with all the comments wonderful episode minus Pi intruding in the bedroom. I can take Martha with her wise cracks but not him. The only cute part was when he called Kate Mrs. C to be. Oct 15, 2013 23:01:14 GMT -5 @tiff098765 said:

He is the workaholic slob, who's only goal is to fit it. He wants so badly to be one of the boys. And he tries to fit in, but you know, he is just a little off. He is willing to do all the grunt work to earn respect and loves his job. He wants to impress, but at the same time, he sees how much more polished the others are. He lives for someone to pat him on the head and say.."nice job kid". Kind of like the little puppy in a new home. He is the "Plucky Sidekick"
And we all know what happens to the "Plucky Sidekick"
He is signed for 3 shows I think, but if he takes, maybe he could be re-occuring. I hope so, I like him. He is fun.

I don't dislike him. He's cute in his own quirky kind of way. We all know Marlowe has reasons for everything he does. He has purpose. And yep, we will see soon enough.
It is always amazing to me when Castle faces a crisis situation he is always calm and level headed. He usually gives the impression of being a superficial fun guy who would fall apart. I love that Castle is really a focused and level headed guy in these days situations.
I was glad to see Kate finally wearing her ring. Hopefully this will discourage guys from hitting on her especially when Rick is around.
John Terlesky has directed more episodes than Rob Bowman now. He is the one who came up with "the best handshake ever" and now gave us the first big kiss in the precinct.
The fun banter that I thought we would see come back last season when they finally got together is finally coming back. I am loving this season!

He has that rare ability to stay calm and it is what drives Beckett. She feeds off that. Like I said, these two are becoming one and it is amazing how they play off each other. He is an amazing character, isn't he. Just what she needs.
And I too love the fact that she wears the ring. i will tell you, when a guy sees his girl playing with the engagement ring, we just fall deeper and deeper because we know she is completely focused on the love and joy that it brings to her. It makes her whole...it completes her and us as well.
I think this is the strongest overall start to a season we've had in a while. Last season, After the Storm was amazing, but by comparison, Cloudy and Secret were little more than average. Sure, they had great, classic moments contained in them, but the episodes as a whole were just okay. Season four was much the same. Rise was epic, but Heroes and Villains and Head Case weren't exactly gold-medal episodes. I'd argue, not since season three, with He's Dead, under the Gunn, and Punked, have wee seen a string of consistently impressive episodes, and even those now pale in compared to this arc — at least in my opinion.
Back then, there was less call for story arcs, as the characters were less intertwined. There was less consistency to maintain. Also, now, I think the stakes are higher. Even Marlowe has pointed out that it gets harder to stay original as you move through the seasons, and I'd guess it gets easier to lose viewers once you cross a certain point. For the first few seasons, they were building an audience, but at some point, that audience will/has peak(ed), and the challenge becomes to hold steady and keep that audience. I think that's where we're at now, and somehow, they've found a way to do it. The ideas are still fresh and original, and the stories are very compelling. It will be interesting to see what happens now that we are "back to normal." This has been the longest stretch of out-of-the-box episodes we've ever had. Usually, it only takes one episode to get back on track, but this time, it took four. That was a risk, but with five seasons under their belt, it was a risk they could afford, and one that I'd say paid off.
You're so kind, K-Man.

I think we all know that PI is going to have a role in Alexis' life. I just hope dad doesn't have to pick up the pieces. They are far enough into this show's run, that PI, one way or the other, will have some sort of lasting impact on Alexis. She will never be the same. But I think we will see that she will always love her dad and Kate will always be there for her when needed.

He knew she was scared, but he figured out that he couldn't change her, so he quickly made sure she knew that the heart wants what the heart wants and the apples were not falling off his cart. Not ever. That made her journey a little easier, and I think it surprised her a bit, every time he made a gesture that only one who completely trusted the other's love could make. She was amazed with the proposal and the DC apartment. When she was fired, he was right there by her side. He gave her the freedom to grow and be herself, something a select few could or would do in today's world. She was secure in his love and that made all the difference. This was her time and brought everyone closer in the end. How great was that writing? It tied everything up and brought everyone together at the right time to let Kate know who loved her and she was left her with no doubt that she was where she should be. She took the chance, she faced her fears and left no regrets.
There may be a time when she decides to change things, you know, law school, politics, being a judge, whatever; but she knows that her friends/family are always behind her and especially Rick, who never wavered in his stance that Kate needs to be whoever she will be. The two grew so much closer. A lifetime closer. The tougher it got, the more they clung to each other. The facetime pillow talk scene exemplified that. Great ARC. And I don't like them, but this one was tremendous.

Season 6 rocks!!
WoW!
I thought the scene with the vest was so telling. It was so full of meaning. The way she took great care in making sure the vest was on right and then smoothing it out like a mom would do for her son. She loves the man, but embraces the little boy. She is replacing Alexis now.. And she loves him so much.....and she is still Kate...what a transition. She finally has it all together. And she finally has it all!!!!! The ring thing was a great touch and so needed to be shown. Actions on this show speak so much louder than words. Now they can start to expand the characters and their lives to make this show complete.
I just don't what they have planned for Sully....maybe he gets food poisoning? Just kiddin....but he is there for a reason and I think Espo has taken to mentoring him, and he knows all about Beckett, so something is in store for him.
As far as Pi, yeah. He's going to be the first "real" boyfriend Alexis has had. He will be the one that maybe she experiences many "firsts" with. This is going to cause some soul-searching by her eventually, some conflict within her. This is going to be the catalyst that brings her back to Castle because of her choices and then things are going to come to a head where it might be evident that she has made these choices because of his engagement to Kate. There is going to be some dynamic character development that goes on with this, and I know that.
It has also crossed my mind that Pi is in the picture because he's not someone that Alexis would typically be thought to be with. He doesn't seem "her type". I could be wrong, but he doesn't seem like it to me. He could be the free-spirit that she needs/needed when this is all said and done. He could be someone who Alexis knows would drive Castle into the nut house, and perhaps that helped influence why she chose him. A little rebellious nature being manifested. Does Alexis REALLY like Pi, or is she using him to get to Castle? I don't know.
This is going to be interesting. Like I said somewhere, I don't dislike him. I find him quirky, and interesting, but at this point, a slight annoyance. He's not adding anything for me, but I know he has purpose.
I see Queenie has posted on this. I have not yet read her take.
Thanks for the thoughts, K-Man!
You are "Rockin the House...." Nice post.

Yeah, yanno, she denied herself loving him, fully loving him, for so long. She can't help herself.
I love it! I love Kate. She's a beautiful mess sometimes. In a wonderful way!
I just loved the episode and have watched it 4 full times plus certain scenes more than that. I am always interested to see my husband's responses to the show because he does not remember all the former episodes and is not OCD at all. He made comments on 2 of the scenes. Rick wanted to be in on the interview and then had to back pedal when Gates looked at him, my husband said, " Oh, she gave him THE LOOK".
Then he just laughed out loud when Rick sat up and hollered "Cheeseburgers". He doesn't do that very often.
No other comments to add to all the great comments I have read. This is such a great season!!!
I just watched the episode for the (cough *** cough) time and I had a thought about a perfect little insert. When Castle tells Kate that he's reached his stupid quota for the day, it would have been PERFECT if he would have taken her by her upper arms, leaned in a bit and planted a quick, cute kiss right on her nose. I can see why they didn't do a dramatic kiss there but I think a fun little drop kiss would have been squee worthy. Evert time I watch it, I feel a strong connection between them at that moment and I would have loved to see Castle do that.
As I was watching the ending again I noticed another nod to how far Gates has come. A year ago she would have been the one to make the big announcement about Kate being reinstated. Instead she let Kate tell her team and we had Ryan make the official announcement. Well done writers!
