I can't wait to see how this clever title fits into the episode. Come back afterwards and well talk about it!
Another great episode. Loved the talent competition secondary storyline.
Nice moves from Jon Huertas and Seamus Dever.
How sweet were Rick and Kate. She didn't want him to know about her stage fright because he really wanted to perform, and then he arranged for them to not have to perform when he overheard her talking to his mother. And that ending shower scene....
Oh yeah, there was a murder to solve as well. That was a good story also. I thought I had it figured out twice, wrong both times (as usual).
What a sweet and fun episode!!! Thank you, Rob HANNING and Kate WOODS, for writing and directing 7x19 HABEAS CORPSE and to the exceptionally talented CASTLE cast, crew, and team--and to live-tweeters!!!
Loved the Molly-Stana/Alexis-Kate test review and goodbye kiss; Stana's/Nathan's/CASKETT’S legal lingo flirting; and Susan/Martha rehearsing CASKETT and empathizing with plucky, devoted Stana/Kate, subject to stage fright when performing for a non-family audience!!! The talent competition, banter, and betting were fun, as was our glimpse of Seamus’/Jon/s/RYPOSITO’S interrogation room rehearsal and post-show light-up shoes!!! Tamala/Lanie nailed her witty lines; after all, she is “a doctor not a puppeteer;” as Penny/GATES did her concern and persistence regarding the 12th, 1PP, and the talent show emcee!!!
How I loved the Stana/Nathan/CASKETT ending, from Rick’s securing his buddy KIMMEL as show emcee and assuring Kate that she is the only audience he, Rick, cares about; their elevator kiss; and their shower duet!!! Wow!!! Fine work, Stana/Kate and Nathan/Rick!!!
I learned from a Rob HANNING tweet that Sean WAUGH contributed the effective technique for breaking out of zip ties—not just choreography and confirmed by an Internet video!!! Re-watch time—again and again!!!
Talk about ENTERTAINING!!!! That was such a great episode! It had witty dialogue, fun competition, appearances by all of the characters, singing and dancing AND great Caskett moments!
I loved that whole opening scene at the loft with Kate helping Alexis review for a quiz and then an affectionate goodbye. The dialogue between Castle and Kate with all of the legal insinuations was super and definitely sexy. Then it rolled right into another fantastic dialogue scene as Castle and Kate trash talk with Ryan about the talent contest. From that moment on, I was dying to see the talent acts and I'm so appreciative that we did get to see parts of everything.
Loved Gates having to ask castle to be the celebrity! That was a tough pill for her to swallow, I'm sure. The challenge and the bet that developed between the boys and Castle was so fun and I loved the stakes. I sure have to feel for Kate when she found out that Castle's idea of their talent was singing naked in the shower! Martha came to the rescue with a nice ballroom dance and Stana looked pretty darn good doing her twirls and that backwards lean. Great scene between Kate and Martha as Kate confesses her extreme stage fright in front of a crowd.
Meanwhile, back at the interrogation room, Ryan and Espo are killing it with their song and dance number. Those two are such good friends in real life and I have no doubt that they've cooked up stuff like this before! The return of Jimmy Kimmel was the perfect setup for Castle to have to decide about their participation in the competition and he did the selfless thing for Kate's sake. LOVED the scene at the elevator and the line, "The only audience I care about is you." Sealed with a kiss. sheepish I thought that was the end of the episode and was delighted when we got the additional shower scene, especially since it really was Nathan and Stana doing the singing. Well done! The choice of song (I've Got You Under My Skin by Sinatra) was consistent with Kate's wanting a Sinatra song at their wedding dance too.
There were lots of other fun bits like the zip tie escape method and subtle reference to Nathan's character, Captain Hammer, and Lanie's great line about being a doctor and not a puppeteer and Castle leaning on his shovel as Kate is busy digging and I guess this is one I really need to watch at least a couple more times!
So Well Put nathanfan!!!!!
Got to be one the most memorable episodes. I was thoroughly entertained throughout. Watching the whole Rick, Kate, Ryan, Espo, and Lanie dissin on my dead bro the Pit Bull was terrific!!!Perfect timing as always. So now, the whole cast interacts and creates their own chemistry with each other They definitely got the most out of that cadaver!!!
We got to see the singer/entertainer of John Huertas(Go You Espo Go!) and of course the unbelievable straight laced Ryan finding whatever funk he had inside himself , as they rehearsed in the interrogation room. What a hoot. It was a different side of Ryan and his letting loose was giving us a glimpse of what he is all about. Somewhere inside of Jimmy/Seasmus, is this seriously crazy Irish boy who loves his Adrenaline about as much he loves a good pint of Guinness. And so entertaining. Castle couldn't write these characters any better in his books. The real deal....loving life, making a fool of yourself and looking good the whole time.
Poor Kate...great voice in the shower, but stage frightened to the point of embarrassment. How can they take her seriously as a Captain? We all know now that some of that singing fear is holding her back in real life and will be addressed as she realizes that she needs more than being a Captain. I predict we will see and feel the changes that drive her to really "Sing" in public. But what a trooper. Willing to put it out there for her hubby, who wanted to show the world how great Kate is in everything she does. Glad he was listening to a certain conversation that clued him in on how scared Kate really was.
The plot was good, the twists lead us to the Hammer. And then to the Slammer. Well done writers. Well done.
One significant to watch for in the future was how the ex wife changed from the long hair and very cooperative to the hair up, stuffy lawyer. Again, building the storyline of Capt. vs Lawyer/Senator for Kate. She will have to chose which hair style fits her.
Nathan was on fire...great job as always. He is having a great season. Very consistent...and still his character develops. Ditto for Stana.
What strikes me is that Amann has changed the dynamic of the show. There is a lot more interaction and playfulness from all the characters. It is like watching a team with role players who come together as one and just beat you senseless. The Cast of Castle is now the quiet storm. They work and play so well together because Amann had their roles redefined and expanded so that they all are the focal point. There is harmony and they are so great when the script has them interacting as they did tonight. And Penny just keeps getting better. It killed Gates to tell Castle he was a celebrity. Good stuff. And nice to see Lanie get more air time.... she is so talented....and now we see she had comedic timing....very nice. This is what Marlowe wasn't giving us...this is what he was setting up and then he let Amann run with it. David has this show running good now. I hope it is not too late.
What can I say about the shower scene? This is the "goods" folks. This is the chemistry that weird science is made of. This is something that only a select few can ever approach. To see the two fused in a flickering dancing silhouette was pure genius. And singing Sinatra....only the best. "I've got you under my skin". (My Wife and I were singing along, taping our feet and snapping our fingers cause we love that song so much)
That image and that song will stay in our minds long after this show goes off the air. And the crazy chemistry again extends to them singing...they have good harmony!!! And Stana can sing and so can Nathan, but oh, so much more that is left to our imagination in that scene. Again unspoken actions that drive us to point of euphoria. That is the magic of Nathan and Stana and that is the mystery that will never be solved on Castle.
Did I say I loved this episode?
Loved it Another one to add to my favorites list
Kman, you highlighted the characters interacting with each other and that's the exact same comment my hubby made after the show ended. He said, "When they let the characters play with each other like that, this show is unbeatable." I couldn't agree more with you guys!
I love all of the comments above. This episode is definitely one of my favorites. What a fun lead in to next week's episode. Everyone having anything to do with the making of this episode needs to be commended.
This is one of the best episodes of this season, oh I do hope we have a season 8 look at fun we will have watching....
REALLY enjoyed this episode. Kate helping Alexis, the legalese speak loaded with innuendo, the crime scene banter. Enjoyed the talent show storyline. So glad we got to see Espo and Ryan dance. That was hysterical! Love how Castle knew that Gates wanted him for the celebrity, but still made her ask. The dance practice scene in the loft with Martha (love that Rick called Kate "Ginger") had me really hoping that we'd see them in tux and gown, twirling on the dance floor. Castle giving up the talent show act because Kate has stage fright - such a loving thing for a husband to do. And the ending shower scene with Nathan and Stana singing Sinatra - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! Stana's little giggle at the end - Adorable! One of the best episodes of the season.
I just finished watching the episode a second time this morning and I'm just full of the giggles! All of the trash talk was so much FUN! I loved Castle, Kate, Lanie and Espo all imitating the Pit Bull commercial and poor, clueless Ryan. It was very much ala Johnny Vong and his DVD that promised wealth. There was also this delightful throwback - "Your honeymilk sipping ass is in bed by 10." Later, I was giggling again when Espo called Kate a chicken and then bawked at her. Rob Hanning really nailed the dialogue in this one!
I also have to confess to a significant DROOL moment! When Gates is forced to ask Castle to be their celebrity in the competition, Nathan has a cat-that-ate-the-canary look on his face that is ADORABLE! And did I mention his hair? DANG! That man does it for me!
LOVED IT! Loved what everyone wrote above, too! "Once Upon a Time in the West" is still my favorite this season but this one and "Clear and Present Danger" are #2 and #3 for me - just don't ask me which one is #2 and #3. 3XK two parter comes very close at #4.
But who cares! As Kman beautifully pointed out, it's the entire cast dynamic that is most important and for me it is what will carry this show through many seasons. This "family" as Kate mentions right before Montgomery's funeral in the season 3 finale is what I tune in to see. I want character growth and backstory of the entire ensemble and not just Rick and Kate. I'm not arguing for it in every episode but I don't think I'm asking too much. Loved Kate playing mom to Alexis. Check that off my Castle Wishlist. Loved Martha counseling Kate about Rick. Hey, is that the first time? Check that off my wishlist, too! More betting and competition between mom and dad vs the boys (2x02, "The Double Down"), and as castlekat pointed out to me, loved the kinder and gentler Javi. He's been such a jerk to Castle in the past couple of seasons. Loved seeing Kevin's and Javi's dance moves that we only got a hint of when they struck the Charlie's Angels pose in "The Lives of Others." Shower scene! We actually got to "see" the married couple doing something instead of talking about an event that happened off screen.
One of my favorite 7 season series is Star Trek: The Next Generation because by season 7 the cast became such a tight-knit family and it showed on the screen. If there is to be a Castle season 8, I want to see more of the 12th family. Be honest to the characters and move them forward.
First time in a while that the entire cast was in the same episode!
I was amused by the fact that every time Gates appeared it seemed to be about the PBA benefit & not the case. I suspected the PI for the simple fact that he was the only one of the guest cast I really recognized. Glad to be wrong.
With Alexis taking a pre-law course now and the Innocence Project involvement for a class last year looks like she may be pre-law, even if Castle didn't seem sure about that. In earlier seasons didn't she want to go to Med school?
Nothing inciteful to add. Really great episode. I thought the pre Christmas episodes were uneven. But, for me the post break episodes are one of the best 9 episode runs the show has had.
