Why Castle was in L.A. during his disappearance

I have been paying attention on social media and the second biggest WTF after Kate's noninvolvement seems to be "Why did Castle chase down locksat in L.A. instead of going home to kate?"

My theiry? Castle was being debriefed in Los Angeles prior to being returned to NY.

This makes sense on two fronts:

1.) LAX is the closest airport in the Continental US to Southeast Asia so they likely put him in a,safe house there for his debriefing, which could have lasted several days to a week.

2.) It would also explain how Hunt would know where Castle would be with enough time to hire Hayley and get her in place before his arrival so she could plant the tracker in his watch.

I'm thinking Castle finding out about the Bracken/Loc-sat connection was most likely a "dead body falling into his pool" moment than something he intentionally looked into and once he did, and realized the danger to Kate, he had to follow the story...it's in his nature.

Shutterbug, your theories do make some sense. One of the questions I had Monday night was how in the heck did Castle go from that secret mission in Thailand to finding out about the loksat/Bracken connection in L.A.
Wasn't the dinghy found somewhere off the East coast? And that campsite? Still some holes there between L.A. and that.

I do wonder if this is the plan H&W had all along, or if they are just making it up as they go along, since their original plan at the beginning of the season was so despised by the fans.

I'm thinking that Montreal was where the memory wipe was done. (which makes sense since it is a relatively unfamiliar location that it wouldn't trigger any memories)

It was likely that he escaped from where they wanted him to be found and wound up in the dinghy.  Jenkins had to think quick and dummy up that campsite not knowing it would trigger something.
