This was a fun one. Alexis was pet sitting in this one. Who was she watching? Who was she helping out by watching? What was the murder in this episode and how did Castle figure out what was going on? Alexis was pet sitting "Theodore" the rat. Ashley's pet.
The episode I believe was "Murder Most Fowl" (season 3 episode 8)
The Murder was of one Lightbulb Len. He died because he witnessed the abduction of a child.
Castle figured it out when he found the missing camera equipment and then realizing the kid's clue about the subway line in the "proof of life" video. And the time delay in getting the message.
