After a few light hearted episodes, it looks like we may be in for an intense ride on this one. Buckle up and be sure to share your thoughts afterwards.

Intense was a good description!
A very twisty case. I couldn't figure out how all of the players were connected until the pieces starting coming together at the end. It was mentioned about cops from the 12th not doing anything, and Kate made the connection to Patricia being on the board of education, but if the connection of the guy that was killed and his wife was mentioned, I missed it.
If part of Nathan and Stana's contracts were for more time off, THIS is the way to do that. They could film separately since they were in separate rooms. And they worked together to figure out what was happening. So much better than the ridiculous separation.
So far I have been much happier with these last 4 episodes than with the first 8 of this season. There may be hope for season 8 yet.

What an intriguing case! It felt very Hitchcocky, as the show has drawn on that for inspiration a few times now. Stephen King would be wise to really contact Castle! The very first thing I took note of was the vague reference that Alexis is really attending at least one college class. What a surprise! I also questioned Kate responding to the murder along with Ryan, Espo and Lanie just like she was lead detective. They didn't even offer a reason why the Captain was there this time. Although later they gave her a more appropriate activity attending a seminar, it just drives home the fact that they should have just left her as a detective and kept Gates IMO. They certainly jumped right into the twisty game that was on. I enjoyed seeing Castle show off his problem solving skills and good judgement, as did Kate too. The reveal that there was a companion room with the women in it, definitely took me by surprise. I really enjoyed the whole way the case unfolded. The tension in the classrooms was great and the way that the precinct investigation developed was in good sync with the game. I have to admit that I didn't mind Hailey and Alexis and thought they were written with just the right amount of involvement. I appreciated the father/daughter hug - it felt like old times - and I also liked that Alexis had some lingering concern for her dad. I could have lived without Hailey dragging her out for some adult activity but that's just me. There really wasn't much Caskett but it didn't feel like it, if that makes any sense. I had the feeling they were close to each other since they could see each other's rooms on the camera. The way they made their choices at the end spoke well of their deep love for each other and it was nice to see them at the loft in the end, acting very much like a normal couple. Could this charade just be over? ? While I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the more humorous ones we've had recently, it was very good for a dramatic episode and left me feeling, again, that things are returning to more of a normal situation. I'm pleased!

I had lots of issues with this episode. All sorts of things didnt make sense to me, especially the fact that this guy knows they are soulmates, yet all powerful LokSat has no clue. And that wife whose husband was just shot didnt shed a tear or care her husband was on the ground somewhere? I also found it way too obvious that we will continue to get such limited time with SK and NF on screen together. Will we get any good scene by season/series end? That final scene bothered me. They just spent the day almost having to make this decision about which of them is to live, and they discuss Steven King? All the romance is gone. Too sad

Too sad I enjoyed the episode more than you did but those were my two issues. How does this minister somehow know that Rick and Kate are together but the all powerful people behind LokSat are still in the dark? Also, Caskett deserved more romance at the end than to be sitting on opposite sides of the sofa. But after suffering through the first half of season 8, I'm still calling this episode a win.

This was one of the most intriguing Castle episodes I think I've ever seen and I found that aspect of it fun. If I can't have Caskett together as much as I'd like, then at least give me this type of story that doesn't make it so painfully obvious and keeps me riveted to the screen with a compelling story.
I'll post my full review on the TV Fanatic thread shortly but I wanted to share one story...
My daughter was watching the episode and asked, "Why can't the people in the rooms just figure out that they have to stay calm and work together to solve the mystery and get out?" Even a six-year-old can see the logic! I had to explain to her that when people get scared and don't know what's happening, they tend to panic and make poor choices. She seemed to accept that answer. LOL.

I think the perp just knew Castle & Beckett are married and was so focused on his revenge, and had obviously been planning it for a while, given how elaborate it was, that he hadn't been paying attention to Page 6 stories about their "breakup". The separation may be common knowledge among those they're close to, and public enough for those involved in LocStat to keep Castle safe, but I doubt the general public is aware of it.

I think this guy needed someone from the 12th and the Captain, being married, was the choice. I don't think this guy had time to research their current situation as his sister just died and he needed to do this. He had been considering this experiment , or his crazy parents had been planning this, for awhile.

Apparently the boys were up late live tweeting the west coast airing of this episode. If you missed it you may want to go check out their Twitter feed to catch up on the fun.

I liked the episode too. It was intriguing enough and quite different than usual.
For me there are just three things I would have liked: 1) to be more difficult for the viewer to guess who the bad guy was. He was the only one who didn't have a wife there and when seeing the twins I felt it was easy to guess it was him; 2) more romance! I agree that after a day like that they should be more cosy at home :-); 3) I think the show is missing a Kate / Alexis scene. I don't remember them interacting since the breakup or even in the whole season. This episode was a good opportunity for that.
I'm looking forward to the next episode and to see their family and friends find out about them. That's an opportunity for fun that I hope the showrunners take.

View AttachmentThe live tweets were right before it aired for me. I wrote down the time fun things were discussed so I could watch for them when I watched. Nathan promised the west coast a tweet of an episode as he bailed last year after saying he would do a west coast tweet of an episode. He went to the Age of Ultron premier instead. I like that he is spending some time away from work with these two guys. Sent from my SM-N910V using proboards

I think the sexual tension that used to drive them crazy is pretty much gone now. The only time we may see it is if they are working a case truly together and not in separate rooms. Swapping theories usually does that, so the writers should get them more involved in that aspect. This is why LokSat is such a loser. She won't even talk to him about it. She keeps the "Safety" nonsense as her security blanket to keep him out of the loop. But as we can see, this is all about to blow up in her face. I think what we saw tonight reminds us that as long as they can see each other, they are in each others thoughts and they work a little harder and smarter to get to each other. They both are so much in control. The plot dictated that they do this, so I am ok with it. But if, as Motowncf suggests they do this to get more time off, shame on both of them and the writers. I understand the dynamic of the show has changed, but if getting more time off is so important to each other, then they shouldn't have resigned for this season.
But, we all must understand that they are a semi married couple and they feel comfortable now with the marriage and each other, so this is the way the show goes. The writers wanted to show them getting closer to each other so that they are in each others soul. And being apart is a part of their life now, so they have come to grips with the way it is. If she runs for Senate someday, Rick will see her even less. But a good marriage can overcome this and so they now just love a little deeper, and understand each other a little more which relieves the tensions, but makes them stronger together. That is why I think you see them so relaxed, sipping wine and talking. There was no sudden rush to the bedroom tonight and I liked that. Let that happen when they feel inclined. Welcome to married life when the honeymoon is over. Even if they really haven't even had a real one yet.
Where did Kate learn to make a bomb? I don't want to know. I don't care. Just another idea that The Mysteries of Laura can steal. LOL
I loved how they found the same items using different views, but they were on the same page. Great minds think a like.
Haley is beginning to grow on me. If Beckett were to leave, she goes to work for Castle.
I loved the twists and turns, but I am wondering why the guy who shot himself's wife could have cared less about her husband. Was there a connection there for them? I don't know.
Captain Beckett is becoming Detective Beckett again. And Castle now has his eyes wide open to everything, so he helps and watches it all unfold. He is always watching Beckett, that is for sure. And once again, he is willing to give his life, but this time Kate returns the favor, and both figured it out from different angles and took the nutbar down. What an experiment.
Nice show, but I feel there is still something missing. I just can't put my finger on it. But, it feels like Marlowe is around so at least we get 10 more shows to develop something and tell stories that make sense. I don't think they are going get that season 9, but it won't be from lack of trying. Just a day late and a dime short. Hope I am wrong. Can we condition the nation to watch again? Do you believe in miracles?
