Castle gets to live out a fantasy tonight BUT ........ will his wife approve?? Come on back after the fun and we'll talk about it!
I know this is goofy, but I am sad to see Kate's apartment go. For all of us long term fans, the history there is unforgettable. I was thinking of all the moments there from the happy to the angsty. I, for one, will miss it.
I agree, I would of loved Rick to come back with a bottle of wine
I enjoyed that! Castle was the proverbial kid in a candy store, getting to interact with his childhood heroes, and Kate was a nice blend of indulging him, despite the fact that she thought it was all pretty cheesy.
FINALLY, we got some definitive closure on Kate's apartment. A lot of us have been wanting that for 2 seasons! I must say though, that I thought it was a bit out of character for Castle to be so unattached and finding it easy to walk away. He's usually more sentimental and we all know there were some pretty special times between he and Kate at that apartment. My reaction was similar to Kate's I guess. I like the way they resolved Kate's feelings, by having her share the feelings with Lanie. That girlfriend time is always something I enjoy. The final scene with Kate carving her initials and then walking out, was a great way to end the episode and an era. They truly did it justice IMO.
It was nice to see Gates be involved a bit in the case. She has contacts and showed she can be good for more than pushing papers. I also loved her acknowledgement and parting advice to Kate and Castle, telling them the paperwork could wait and that they'd both done a good job. We're seeing her evolve! Ryan was a hoot trying to come up with his own tag line too.
Castle was in his element tonight, getting to live out a fantasy and hang with the aging Indestructibles. He was also spewing theories faster than a speeding bullet! He definitely had some ups and downs, especially the blow finding out his hero had been a goat herder and the great car stealing caper. The gag about the poster he wanted signed was fun too. And can I just say - NICE to see those biceps, Mr. Fillion!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This will be a fun one to go back and watch again.
Yea, I agree with the comments
For me, 7X 09 LAST ACTION HERO was fun, bittersweet, and sweet!!! The COTW was just confusing, challenging, and heartwarming enough for me!!! Clues and suspects abounded—even earology?!—good tie in with perpetrator’s jewelry line/necklace and garrote and bone marrow donor DNA secrets revealed!!! Lance, not CNI but former goat herder from the Pyrenees, and Trey, in particular, found redemption and victory!!! Kudos, Stana and Nathan, writer Christine ROUM, director Paul HOLAHAN, and, as ever, all feature cast regulars, and the entire CASTLE crew, and team—marvelous work—thank you!!!
I loved Stana/Kate and Nathan/Rick—their banter and devotion, as they fulfill CASTLES’ boyhood dreams—of Kate and of the INDESTRUCTIBLES’ “one last mission, featuring, “Head’s up guys, it’s show time. Abort. Abort; Prairie Dog pulled a boomerang,” and Kate’s handling of Rick’s “semi-legal behavior”!!! After all, these films were Rick’s "bro time" as he was raised by a single mother!!! Nathan/Rick reacted wonderfully to Brock HARMON’S hours of bathroom reading of CASTLE’S books and to Rick’s excitedly deciding what to wear on his own INDESTRUCTIBLES ride and mission—and, oh dear—CASTLE’S properly fearful, “My wife’s a cop. If I do this, she’ll kill me”!!! Also fun, adorable, and exciting were Nathan/Rick in Kate’s beret and striped scarf and his later biceps and headband!!! Luke REICHLE’S wardrobe and Liz WILLIAMSON’S and Deb ZOLLER’S makeup teams—again, terrific work!!!
Oh, that poster—only on Nathan’s/Rick’s childhood wall “for about a minute,” yet at the precinct, ready for Kat KINGLEY’S autograph—Stana/Detective BECKETT missed none of it, of course!!! Nathan’s/Rick’s so revealing “I was an average, ordinary fan; not like I had hard core pajamas”—well,….?!!! Stana/Kate and Nathan/Rick—delivery outstanding: Kate’s “Despite the deeply personal betrayal, we’ve got a mystery to solve,” and Rick’s terminology involving, “labarythian (Sp?!)” twists, “villainy,” and “international espionage”!!! Yep, here’s too, to Rick’s grasping and to Kate’s acknowledgement that he shouldn’t always keep talking!!! While they are hardly just beginning their “horrifying” thinking alike, how sweet, fun, effective, and hot it always is, as CASKETT plan to watch HARD KILL—whip available!!!
I can’t get too much of Stana/Kate and Tamala/Lanie—perfectly delivered, as always—and a call back scene to their THE LIMEY conversation!!! Stana again *is* Kate, earlier retrieving Kate’s Nona’s All-Clad, scrambled egg pan and concurring with Tamala/Lanie that this place, her apartment, is where Kate “rebuilt your life, solved your mother’s murder, and fell in love”!!! Tamala always portrays the best medical examiner, loving and snarky best friend, and caring shipper, while recognizing the tact is not Rick’s long suit!!! Stana/Kate’s leaving Kate’s mark, her carved initials; her smiles; and her memories—turning out the light—how lovely—as always for Stana—dialog or no dialog—again—perfection!!! I did expect Rick to understand and support Kate’s feelings about her apartment and to recall their mutual special times there???!!! I concur with Stana’s appreciation for everything in the space and for Alfred SOLE and team!!!
RYSOSITO/Seamus and Jon were, as always, spot on—RYAN’S catch phrases, including, “My name’s RYAN; and I hate lyin’,” and ESPO’S reactions!!! How funny the boys and CASTLE’s B-movie fest, “caught” by Kate!!!
And, GATES, Penny, as always, perfection as Sir!!! She so effectively leads and supports her team!!! How grudging and supportive, her recognition that “your husband/Mr. CASTLE deserves credit for crime solving and crime solved—and her declaration to head for home, saving paperwork for tomorrow!!!
Indeed, a toast to the “best ever” apartment, to CASKETT’S in sync crime solving and thinking and to their upcoming evening and night, and to a delightful episode!!!
Really enjoyed this episode. The storyline could could have gotten really cheesy, but it was handled perfectly. Two things to add. Do you think cousin Sofia was a nod to Stana's character in For Lovers Only? Also, the difference in how Kate dealt with his semi legal behavior compared to the early years. I think that she would have been pretty stern in the first few years. Whereas, now it's an admonishment with a hint of playfulness.
Hard to top what everyone else has already said but I will mention that I thought Castle was just adorable when he was all pouty about his boyhood hero not being special forces but a goat herder. It's like all his dreams were crushed and he looked like he needed a hug.
Also, when he wanted to go out for drinks with the guys and was afraid Kate would say no. She told him ...Kate: Castle, you really think I could stand between you and your boyhood dream?
Castle: You are my boyhood dream....Aww!
I agree with Nathanfan about Rick being so unattached over Kate's apartment. It did not feel right to me. The place had significant meaning to both of them. It's where they first discussed a scholarship in Johanna's name, they broke up twice in that apartment, and who can forget the wonderful Valentines gift of Rick's drawer. I can think of several other moments there. I don't understand Rick's cavalier attitude.
I was happy to see Lanie at her best in helping Kate say goodbye to her place. I thought it was extremely touching when Kate carved her initials, turned off the light and left. There was a lot of history there for this wonderful show.
I have a couple of questions:
Will CASTLE’S comment about there being a kernel of truth in every bit of fiction mean something in the future?
AND
Do you think that Cousin Sophia is a nod to Stana’s Sofia role in FOR LOVERS ONLY; Stana’s new Instagram account features FLO photos with comments about the Indie Film: its homage to French New Wave filmmaking; the liberating experience of filming with in 4D with a five-member cast, crew, and team; and Stana's crediting the roles of Michael (director) and Mark POLISH (writer; actor)!!! The photos and Stana’s crediting her colleagues and friends are not new or recently expressed sentiments for her; and she is adding other, older photos to this new account!!! I find Stana very generous in crediting her fellow professionals on many projects, including CASTLE and FLO!!!

Someone asked Stana on Twitter if Sofia was a reference to FLO, and she said "no."
Kate lamenting the lose of her appartment..... onward and upward sugar, you're married now.
Don't know about others but I could use some HEAT from our newlywed DD.
Rick telling Kate she was his boyhood dream was the line of the night for me.
Overall pleasing episode.
Liked them having Kate's cousin sublet the apartment, thus avoiding the whole what to do with her furniture, kitchen things (except for things like the frying pan they mentioned that she was keeping for specific reasons), etc. I had been expecting them at some point to have a running dialogue about merging her stuff into the loft.
