I'm doing this from LA so I'll get it started in plenty of time. Do you think that'll make it come any sooner???
We've waited a LONG time for this episode and I sure hope that a lot of you will be adding your comments to this thread. I won't be able to put in my 25 cents worth until I'm home but trust me, I'll have thoughts to share! At least the 4 of us who are out here will be able to enjoy the episode together and treasure the experience. Let's hope the evening is everything we've hoped for!
Yeah
The unfairness of it all. I work night shift so I won't be able to savor the episode until Tuesday morning when I get home.
Loved it, Stana was right, Nathan did an awesome job in tonight's episode...
Absolutely fabulous! So awesome......all the references to the past 6 years, and that lovely wedding at the end......although I was starting to watch the clock and getting a little worried about the time.
And their song......all just so perfect.
LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Their vows brought tears to my eyes it was just so romantic, the wedding we have all been waiting for finally Mr.& Mrs. Castle.
It wasn't the wedding many of us dreamed of for our beloved DD but it was great!!! I loved it!!! Beckett's vows took my breath away. They looked so much in love. You could see they were speaking to each other straight from their .
Yes,short but oh so sweet. It got them married and brought inner peace for me. So many aspects from past seasons were touched upon.
I admit I was prepared to be a bit less than happy with this "moment" but in the end I was gratified and indeed lifted in spirit.
Congratulations to the bride and groom and all the cast and crew that made the last 6 years a pleasure for so many of us.
Sweeeet! Loved the AU, the links back in time, the role reversal with Kate being the one to say"stay with me"...their marriage vows!..ah heck, I could babble on forever...it simply was a wonderful show...the beginning of a wonderful life.....together!
Great stuff

And Kate being the one to say "always."LOVED IT!!!!!
Thank you, TEM, AWM, Paul HOLAHAN, Stana, Nathan, Seamus, Jon, Molly, and Susan—Luke, Alfred, cinematography, makeup, lighting, editing, props, live and all tweeters—what a cast, writers, crew, and team!!! Thank you, again, for another, marvelous episode!!! Stana/Kate and Nathan/Rick, extraordinary acting—again!!! I found TIME OF OUR LIVES a joyous celebration—of six and a half years of magical, snarky, heart-melting, love eyeballs-filled CASKETT discovery, development, growth, and realization--#CaskettAtLast—indeed!!! I love that bride Kate is wearing the earrings from Martha and the pearl bracelets from Luke/his mother and grandmother!!! I love this wedding gown/pants suit—stunning—as is groom Rick in his tux!!!
Ah, Ricks’ touching things, which he thought that Kate liked about him and Kate’s melon chop following the briefcase theft chop—through Rick’s AU coma/dream (?!) to his RL return to his Kate and their stunningly beautiful wedding—their immediate family (Jim BECKETT included)—their joy—their vows—their smiles—their enchantment with one another—their dance—"Mrs. CASTLE"—In My Veins—absolutely!!! I wouldn’t have minded if Lanie, Kevin, and Javi had also been at the wedding!!!
So much to love, to remember, and to savor: “I’m not really ready for someone else’s perfect day;” Kate’s lip biting; the “date”; and the fascination and the flirting!!!” How lovely Kate’s revelation about having stood in line for a Derick STORM novel author Rick CASTLE’S autograph!!! She has only known him for a day but it feels much longer!!!
Oh, the loft—with its large, Martha portrait, as tough love Mom and successful actor Martha RODGERS and career have thrived—Martha “carried” Rick, who, having never met Kate, has written no, successful Nikki HEAT series and found no truly loving and lasting relationship!!! At least, this AU Rick quickly dismissed, “young,” Chelsea with a couple of blue pills in her purse!!! RYAN missed his chance with Jenny and as Martha fan, sought theater tickets from CASTLE!!! ESPO with his women problems, lost out with now pregnant Lanie!!! Altruistic, raven-haired Alexis, gave up on but still loves her dad!!!!!!
How poignant—Kate wants Rick gone—sent home—banished from Homicide—escorted to *their* elevator!!! As ever, “Mr. CASTLE” repeatedly returns and inserts himself into Captain BECKETT’S case and life—without Rick, Kate-described as “politics and paperwork”!!! We surely find terrible, precinct coffee and Kate’s elephants and recall “the rules”: “you stay in the car or I shoot you; accompany and observe not participate and annoy and/or risk my people’s lives!!!” Again, the aching conflict: the theory building foreplay; “We make a pretty good team, you and I;” and “I don’t know what twilight world you come from but we don’t know one another; we are done; go away, Mr. CASTLE”!!!
Like RL Rick, AU Rick knows that he and Kate are better off together, that everything matters and is world changing in any universe—he can make it better!!! He will again try “their coffee” and a bear claw—and in an AU/coma dream?, Rick dies, preventing Kate’s being shot!!! Now, it is Kate’s turn to beg the love of her life to “Stay with me”!!!
Suffering from insomnia, RL Rick struggles with having hurt Kate by vanishing on their wedding day and having disappeared for two months—how can she and they get past that?! RL Rick concludes that they “Do” and proposes that they marry, “now”!!! Kate’s smile, Rick’s smile, and the smiles of their family underline their wedding happiness and their dedication to their marriage, as do their vows, “loving and supportive friends, partners in crime and in life,” “extraordinary,” “always”!!!
Second viewing, sans commercials, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS EPISODE! (Yes, I know I already said it last night ...)but truly there are so many nuggets of goodness in this ep.
Nathan was given a chance to shine and he nailed it, but they ALL did a great job. I loved the humor throughout, the turning of the tables so-to-speak and their reactions to each other, the callbacks to all those little things that we have loved and watched for 6+ years, Castle talking with Alexis on the couch, Martha, Ryan and Espo, Lanie's short but oh so funny moments ....
There were two teary moments for me...the first was when she and Rick were discussing Derrick Storm in the hallway and the look they gave each other with the quick little snippet of the Always theme (at least I think that's when it was, I guess I'll have to watch again...what a chore )
And then the whole wedding scene..beautiful...simple but elegant in sentiment....Loved Kate's hair, and her outfit...still incorporating the beautiful lace top from her dress, but I thought she ROCKED that pants outfit with the bow in the back. And she was wearing the earrings and the pearl bracelets! Castle looked great in his tux with the unbuttoned shirt.
I also loved the way this was filmed (not that I know anything about filming, mind you)...just the angles and shots and movements of the actors...Castle trying to surreptitiously move around the precinct after Kate has told him to leave, opening the blinds, etc.
For me this is a CLASSIC episode, one that can be watched over and over, still being able to find that little nugget I hadn't noticed before.

Just finished watching the episode the first time around (the bane of working the graveyard shift is I have to wait until the next morning)
I must say I loved the episode. Even if the alternate reality thing was a dream I was intrigued. Seeing Molly with anything but red hair was strange I will admit. Having Martha being a successful actress was just as weird.
I'll definitely have to rewatch this episode later. Might not be until later today or tomorrow though. (This morning is busy)
I really enjoyed reading everyone's thoughts and thoroughly agree for the most part. I do have a few comments that I want to make and please don't shoot the messenger. They are just my opinion.
1. Would it have killed ABC to make this episode a 2 hour event??? We have all seen it done on other shows, why not Castle? The wedding was the EVENT of the shows 6+ seasons. They could of done the wonderful AU storyline and given us a 10+ minute wedding scene.
2. I missed Javi, Kevin, and Lannie not being there for the wedding. They have been critical parts of this great show and it just felt wrong to me that they were not there.
3. It would of been nice to see Jim and Kate have a moment before the vows. Jim never spoke in the scene and that did not feel right to this Dad. When my daughter got married, I told her everything in my heart before I gave her away.
To be honest, I just felt a little cheated that after 6 + years, we had a 5 minute wedding. Again, JMO.

I think for me that I am happy to settle for the little crumb we got in hopes that they (the writers, and, probably more importantly, the people making decisions) give us back the show/characters that we loved in the early years. For me this ep was a taste of everything that we had grown to love....I am still leery of what will be coming down the pike, but will savor this ep, and the next by what I've seen of the sneak peeks/promos I think, and then hope for the best.
And we can always hope for an anniversary bash, right? Where they do it up big and everyone is there? Or maybe Rick will surprise Kate? Please?
This was brought up by a friend and fellow Castle fan:
"Irony: The wedding signals the end of Caskett. Bye bye Beckett, hello Mrs. Castle.
Callbacks: Monkey-peed-in-battery-acid coffee. Stay in the car and Stay with me.
Firsts: On-screen Caskettdate. <---(can we do that one again?). KB used as crossover vehicle from the crime scene to domestic life (!)
Fun fact: The McNulty character referenced in the interrogation room scene was the name of the character originally cast in the pilot & was instead replaced with Ryan.
Plot-point-revisited: RC learns what his books meant to his betrothed. !!!!!!!!"
I'm sure you saw some of these things as well. Please share your continuity thoughts!!
Oh! Kate telling Rick "It's perfect" as they danced after the wedding lit him up after she said she wasn't ready for "someone else's perfect day" in reference to going to Will Sorenson's wedding.

I loved the episode, and was okay with ryan, javi and Lainie not being there. It was just family. But I do have one nitpick: that sunset was so fake looking that, when the scene first started, I thought they were still at the precinct and had hung up a picture to somehow make it special. Poor use of green screen. That was a great show!!!! Loved it.
Real or a dream, this was one of the best story lines ever on this show.
These two would have fallen in love either way is what I take from all this, and also, you can change and make things right...no matter what the situation or what issues you may think you have. Don't mess with love.....it finds you everytime.
The "porthole" between the two worlds was set up as interchangeable. I loved that he solved the case in the Alternate world and Ryan and Espo took all the credit in the real world. But they all worked the case in both dimensions and didn't miss a beat. All the obstacles were such that they could be overcome with the help of Castle. What I loved was Castle repairing damage in both worlds. And also the fact that Beckett fell in love with him in both worlds. This show tied into the first episode in many ways. The short, adorable hair, which I loved. McNulty, etc. And When Kate told Rick that really didn't like being a homicide detective, I thought about how he told her that under "Normal" circumstances, she would have been a lawyer, or would have had other options. She was clearly damaged and beaten up by her mother's murder and was just settling for what she had, pushing paper and doing politics. She had no aspirations for anything else but the job, cause she figured it was all she was good at and just didn't want to push the limits on her potential. Her mom's ring hung around her neck like a noose, strangling her and her life. The second Rick read her the riot act, she had to take a long, hard look at herself and the man who made her look. And the second I realized that she had found an old friend in his books, I knew he touched her changed her outlook. She was alive again. And this time, he paid the ultimate sacrifice by dying for her, thus releasing both of them.
Alexis told her father how meaningless her non profit work was, and clearly, she had lost her way, just like her father in this world. But Rick reminded her how anything is worth something, no matter how small or insignificant it may be. She missed her dad and wanted him to recover from his free fall, which also prompted hers. We tend to take after our parents in many ways, and Alexis was no exception. Like Beckett, who was drowning in her own soul, Alexis was doing the same, and apparently, so was Rick. Alexis was now a mix of mom and dad. She was treading water, drowning in the surf, waiting for someone to tell her that she was worth a damn, and that is what is Rick did. And he won her love back, because she knew her dad was fighting desperately to get his life back for himself.
Ryan had lost his love, using his work as the other woman, but the honey milk and freckles brought him down to earth. It grounded him and made him stop and think. The one I worried about was Espo. He was nomad, a loner, and lost his love cause he couldn't commit to her. He became playful with Castle and at least, realized the he could at least enjoy the ride rather than being all hard ass and such. And Lanie....you go girl.....quite the shock.
Rick was clearly in free fall after killing Storm in the book.We didn't get the explanation why, but Kate felt that something was wrong and she wanted to know. He was as lost as she was and he knew it when he saw the Captain version of the woman he loved. I can't imagine what set him off the deep end, but by killing Storm, he was turning his back on reality as well. He was in he toilet and he just couldn't take it any more. He lost his "IT" and had to find out why. Because in order to return, he had to find "IT" and move forward. That "It" was Beckett.
Martha is Martha....she thrived in this other world. Somehow, I feel this is who she really was before she was left penniless and then had to rely on her son. She showed us that she loved him enough to evoke the tough love rule and let him sit in jail. She was amazing. And the world loved her. Her son was now the wounded duck who needed to be nurtured. She was playing the role of Mother. Now if Rick could only embrace his role as son.
What was intriguing was how hurt Kate was about not getting that perfect day. When she made the comment to Castle about not going to Sorensen's wedding, it broke his heart, and compounded his already growing inner sadness about the whole event. He couldn't sleep because he knew how badly this had all hurt Kate. Sharing the pain of a loved one is what defines a solid relationship and a successful marirage. The writers clearly understood this and so did Nathan. And whether or not it was his fault, IT WAS HIS FAULT, and he felt the frustration and the uneasiness of Beckett so desperately wanting this to work out, but kinda not believing totally that the perfect day even existed. As she was damaged in the other world, the wedding ordeal had left her in a state of mind numbing hurt. Every day for two months she grieved, and then thought he staged his death...I mean, who recovers from that kind of slap in the face? And the humiliation and the looks people gave her like she really was damaged goods....who wouldn't be skeptical ever getting on enough solid ground to get married?
The bottom line to this episode was that you just move on. You can't change the past, but you can live each day like it is the time of your life. You just have to deal with it and go. This is what is what Rick got Kate to understand. Nathan was brilliant. "How do we get past this"? he says and she is clearly stunned and tongue tied and the throat choked and the tears welled up, because Kate had no answer and no future in mind. Just like the Captain Kate, she was living day to day, and wondering what the next days issues would be, She needed to be re-assured and Rick did it with a control and maturity about him that was so direct that it shook Beckett to her soul She didn't understand what he wanted and then he made her understand and told her that this is time to let go and take that leap of faith.
The wedding was so surreal. It reminded me of a storybook illustrated picture with that beautiful back drop of the sky merging with the horizon and ocean. Simply perfect.
What made the wedding so great was the way they said "Hi" at the alter. The vows were wonderful but the "Hi" put you at ease and let you know that they were glad to be there and do this. Kate was so lost in her partner and Rick articulated his vows so beautifully and so gracefully and both meant business. Rick looked Dashing. The stare and the grin of supreme confidence in what he was doing it gave you goosebumps. Stana poured her heart into her vows and the dance at the end was just.......you know....words don't describe it....the song that we all know so well.....Your'e in my veins.....wow.....the two looked so much in love...the chemistry was never better, in fact, it may have hit a new high.
I think this show now moves on...the marriage is just part of the deal now. It is a great story line, but clearly, these two will conduct business as usual, so this show will not suffer.
Congrats on a supreme effort by the Castle team But hey Rick, she is not Katherine Castle.....she is Kate Beckett.......and you wouldn't have it any other way......
......snip...

Did anyone else get an "It's a Wonderful Life" vibe from the AU? Things hadn't gone as well for anyone in the AU without Castle in their lives (except perhaps Martha, who was doing much better professionally but maybe not in as good a place personally) - Alexis, living in CA with a job she doesn't much like, apparently not in college; Ryan & Jennie and Laine & Espo not together; Kate never solving her mother's murder; Rick never coming up with another best selling series.
Speaking of the Beckett name change! If there is one? Some women keep their maiden names. Will Kate? It will be funny if some one shouts "Castle" and both of them look up or what ever!
Kate Beckett will always be Beckett to me. Old dog etc. LOL

Kman, What a great synopsis of this episode and so beautifully written. Totally agree with your words.

Most women I know who have established careers before marrying keep their names, though they answer to "Mrs..." from their kids friends & teachers. I'm sure Kate will do the same. And Rick's "Mrs. Castle" not withstanding, I don't think he would expect her to change her name; can't see him not calling her Beckett. Plus keeping Beckett is cannon per the "time traveler" episode - Richard Castle, his wife, Senator Beckett & their 3 children.
I never seriously thought she would change it either, just threw that in as food for thought.
