Castle in the classroom? Can't wait to hear the reaction of the crowd! Please share yours after the show.
Loved this episode. Loved Castle's interactions with the kids. He was so adorable in the tea party scene with little Emily. And facing off with Jason....LOL.
And that closing scene with Alexis....such a great scene between Nathan and Molly.
So far season 7 is off to a great start.
And I like that they aren't just sweeping the whole disappearance under the rug as if it never happened. We know at some point that mystery will be revisited in more detail, but I like how it is being discussed and acknowledged, without overwhelming each episode in the meantime.
I'm going to start this off by clearly stating that I'm biased. I love Nathan and Castle is my favorite character on the show so that had a definite influence on my opinion. Normally, I don't enjoy the shows that have Castle and Beckett working separately. The infamous Elvis episode comes to mind right away. However, even though there were very few scenes of them together tonight, I thoroughly enjoyed the show. It wasn't quite the homerun that last week was for me, but it was a good time.
Let me start with the B story - Alexis being WAY over protective of Castle. I thought it was handled well. It makes sense to me that Kate would recognize the problem before Castle would , but after a second over-the-top incident, even Castle had to admit there was a problem. I'm glad he dealt with it and didn't just think time would solve it. It was a healthy thing to do for the sake of all of their relationships. The ending scene was touching and it was nice to have the connection made between Castle's disappearance and Alexis' kidnapping.
The COTW was interesting but what really stood out for me was the twist near the end that had the killer hiding under the bed and hearing that the photo they were all looking for was at the school. We haven't had Kate and Castle involved in a fight in quite a while. As usual, Ryan and Esposito did a great job of delivering important evidence. They work efficiently with Kate but the magic just isn't there without Castle IMO.
I want to be sure to give kudos to the actress who played the teacher, as well as the writers for doing a great job with her character development. Her demeanor in the beginning was very resentful and negative but as the episode progressed, she came around to appreciating Castle's connection with the kids. It was very believable and well paced.
That leaves me with Castle in the classroom. One of my favorite scenes was when the principal was describing what kind of person they needed to go under cover and Kate's face was screaming CASTLE! Stana - again - hit it out of the park with her facial expressions. As Castle himself said, he's 90% kid and he did a great job with the kids. I expected comedy like the thrown eraser and the marbles on the floor but we also got some very touching and meaningful scenes too.
The first scene with Castle on the grass playing soldiers reminded me of the one from Montreal when the guy's story ends up being that they were abducted by aliens. Once again, Castle got sucked in, only to find the kid had been watching a movie with his brother. The fairy scene was delightful! I just knew that castle had spent time with Alexis having tea parties and being fairies as she was growing up. He was so at home with Emily, and when the talk turned into a bullying issue, I thought that Castle offered sage advice. He also handled the bully quite effectively. Their parting scene with the signs on both of their backs was darling but the kid also got the message to treat people better. I've always thought that he was an awesome dad!
Allow me to end on a shallow note! Hot damn, Nathan was looking good tonight! I loved his tousled hair, fitted jeans (and wet!) and that more casual, green plaid shirt. AND, how many guys could don fairy wings and a tiara and still make women swoon?? Now remember, I started out by saying I was biased!
I really enjoyed tonight's episode. I agree not great like last week but pretty awesome. Nathan and the kids- well done. Loved the castle pee pants scene. Thought that the look on his face was telling when the second graders were all making fun of him. Makes you wonder how mean kids were to little Rick Rodgers. Loved the line about him always being in trouble. Too funny. Loved the fight scene. Rick always gets the worst end of things but always keeps trying to protect his fiancé. All and all good episode.
Did anyone else have the same reaction I did when Castle told Mrs. Ruiz, "An experience that powerful is going to find a way to express itself and end up on the page."
I immediately thought of 11 year old Rick Rodgers seeing something traumatic in the woods and ending up writing about murder for the rest of his life. For me that one line was a nod to Castle's back story. I know they're going to make us wait but I'm really looking forward to getting answers as to what happened in those woods all of those years ago.
I found 7x04 CHILD’S PLAY to be a witty, warm, Rob HANNING written, Rob BOWMAN directed, Bill ROE photographed, CASTLE episode, enhanced by Robert DUNCAN’S music, Luke REICHLE’S wardrobe choices, and Elizabeth WILLIAM’S makeup work, Alfred SOLE’S sets—and terrific work by Nathan- and Stana- led cast and by CASTLE crew and team!!! My thanks to all live Tweeters!!!
Nathan/Rick was wonderful with the children; Stana/Kate was wonderful with Rick, “ninety percent child” himself and not above slurping his juice box!!! I loved CASKETT sitting together on tiny chairs and their kiss, too!!! Spot on acting, dialogue and facial expressions from both of our leads, indeed!!! “Mr. CASTLE,” sporting tiara, wand, and wings, was too adorable tea partying with Princess Emily, who learned from Mr. CASTLE to use her princess powers for good and that Mr. CASTLE’S friend, Kate, also sometime played princess with him!!! The duo, who once said of their relationship, “Never,” (Kate) and “Not yet,” (Rick) stated together that they would marry, “One day”!!!
I appreciated the murder of childhood innocence, represented by the death of the ice cream vendor, complete with the cheerily, brightly decorated ice cream truck and the lilting, ice cream truck tune—the monster/murderer hiding under the bed—and Rick’s and Kate’s triumphant fight, complete with blows, marbles, and gun—in a classroom where rules include, “No making faces,” and “Don’t fight”!!! Well-played Mrs. RUIZ’, her appreciation of Mr. CASTLE’S dedication, persistence, and devotion to the students he reached and helped, transitioned to “Leslie,” stating that the most challenging students were also the most rewarding!!!
Despite the unhealthy, over-the-top caretaking and callback phone tracking, Nathan’s/Rick’s and Molly’s/Alexis’ acceptance of adulthood’s acceptance of vulnerability—as we so care about and long to protect our loved ones, also acknowledged their histories in the face(s) of their disappearances!!! Their hugs, scooters, pizza, and love aided in celebrating childhood and in recognizing adult roles!!!
Fun episode. Nathan and kids makes for fun TV. The 7 year old nemesis was very funny. Stana's faces while he is playing with the toy, telling the teacher he'll have no problem, and the thumbs up after the eraser in the head were great.
As proudtvjunkie mentioned in her review, it feels like it loses a little when they don't work a case together. However, I do wonder if this is a way to give them each an extra day off, or reduced set time. Plus, to do 23 episodes and include the other actors, there will be some less Casketty episodes.
So kudos to Rob Hanning for creating a really fun episode that was able to get past less Caskett.

I thought of that too. Also interesting that this is the 1st episode set in a school that didn't have Rick reminiscing or some connection to his own schooling.
One thing I wondered was if this was originally going to take place before last week's episode. The whole B story with Alexis would have fit better then, IMO.
Yup they have us looking closely for hints to solve castle's mystery. This will be a season that will be fun to go back and watch when they finally give us the solution to the mystery.

Enjoyed last night's episode

I must say, I find it kinda interesting to read everyone's comments on the lack of Caskett scenes last night.
I really didn't focus on the lack of Caskett working together last night. I just loved Castle's time at the school, and enjoyed watching his interactions with the kids so much that I guess I didn't really pick up on the fact that they were not spending as much time together as they usually do when working on a case. I did wish though that Kate had been able to see his tea party with Emily; that was so sweet, and I think she would have just melted watching how he was with her and imagining how he would be with their children. She's seen what a great dad he is with Alexis, and that would have been a great insight for her as to what kind of dad he would be with a younger child.

Let me say first that this is JMO.
I never for a second felt that there was a lack of Caskett in CP. They had me with their looks, body language, and one measly kiss. It was just THERE and I was comfortable with it.
I loved finally having an episode where the "9 year old on a sugar rush" was on display. The scenes with Emily and Jason were delightfully cute and funny, also the interplay between Rick and Leslie Ruiz. My biggest laugh was when Kate told Leslie that she deserved a medal for putting up with Rick for 2 full days
All in all, CP was my favorite episode so far this season.
Why leave two witnesses? Technically three if you count the sister but she wasn't in the classroom. Polkovnik already subdued Beckett and Castle and her Glock is on the floor. He's already killed other witness with a history of attrocities so why stop now?
I enjoyed this episode. Normally I dislike shows or movies where the witness is a child, "Witness" (1985) being the only exception, but I didn't see the twist at the end. Good COTW. Solid performance by Nathan. You can tell he's naturally good with children.

Potato chip fudge? Does it really exist? Sounds gross initially but I'm a chip connoisseur so I'm willing to try. A bit of forshadowing with Nathan talking about dramatic childhood experiences. Mrs. Ruiz was wonderful, Emily is a cutie, and Jason was a great bully. Cracked me up seeing Esposito and Beckett with their hands near their noses repelled by the stench of Dimitri's death yet Lanie wasn't affected, lol! Stana's little facial expressions have been wonderful to see now that Kate is wearing her heart on her sleeve. Love to see them all eating together.
I also wanted to mention how smoothly Kate fits in at the loft and family time feels so normal. If they can maintain the pace and their dynamic tongue and cheek banter, a full season of Mr and Mrs Castle and their continuing crime solving adventures should be fine. Just spare me any infidelity storyline. I'm not arguing for blissful happily everafter but the trust issue plot devices have been overtly beaten to death on this show.
Just a solid, classic Castle episode. I'm having fun.

The closest I can find is Ben & Jerry's ice cream inspired by Late Nite host Jimmy Fallon. It has vanilla bean ice cream, salted caramel swirl and fudge covered potato chip clusters. I couldn't find it in my local grocery store (although they had others in the Late Night Snack line of flavors) but I plan to keep an eye out for it. Like you, my immediate reaction was eww and then the more I thought about it the more I wanted to try it.

I don't think I have ever seen any commercial ice cream with potato chips but my husband has eaten potato chips with his ice cream of any flavor for many years. People have always thought it strange until they tried it!!
