Like that Maya Stojan is still with us this season. Good character!

The story that Castle told Beckett back in 2x1 may not have been made up. Maybe it was actually true, only thing that was different was the part of the boy washing up on the beach.
I really liked the way Nathan played the ambushed interviewee in the opening TV spot. It totally came across as a man who was being put on the spot and even betrayed. The offering of the reward and Gates' reaction to the station's phone number being given out, will go down in my book as one of the most memorable moments in the series! Penny's going to be at the Castle Con in LA in November and I'll make sure she gets asked about having Nathan plant a big one on her! And, interesting, Esplanie is an item again. I like that they continued to use Lanie as a support and sounding board for Kate.
I had to love Castle loose in a toy store and, consequently, needing a time out. They totally sucked me in with the mystery voice on the phone and meeting the guy who turned out to be an alien abduction nut job. Nice bromance scene as Ryan worries about his income and raising Sarah Grace with Jenny not working. Espo looked delighted to imagine Ryan as a mall cop type.
The tip from the honeymooning couple started an interesting trail and we at least found out about the key. The memory cards discovery led to a very emotional scene as Castle tells Kate he never meant to run out on her and he indicates he fears for his life. Nathan delivered that so beautifully with tears in his eyes. It reminded me of Target and Hunt and it's nice to see him get the chance to show off his dramatic abilities sometimes. Stana had an equally moving reaction to seeing the tape. She nails it every time.
I'm a little disappointed that Castle went back to Montreal alone but it's also very much like him to do it impulsively. That whole scene left me with a gazillion more questions, one being, why did Fake Jenkins have a gun on Castle. Alexis offers the theory that this might have to do with something Castle witnessed and that he might be a victim - not a perpetrator. I like that thought because I just can't believe they'll give Castle a dark background. We'll see.
My favorite aspect of the whole show was the complete honesty I saw from both Castle and Kate throughout. The bedroom scene at the end was very moving and it totally reassures me that they will face the unknown together and get back on a solid footing, as Kate said. Nathan and Stana nailed that scene too! With the prospect of wedding talk in a month, I'm more convinced than ever that we'll see a wedding in episode 6.
I followed the murder case but let's face it, it really couldn't hold a candle to finding out more about Castle's disappearance. It was irrelevant to me this week.
Here are a few of my remaining questions - How did Castle get the fever antibodies in his system? Why Montreal? Why did Fake Jenkins have a gun on Castle? Why did Castle think he'd likely be dead if Kate was seeing his video message? I thought these people were supposed to be doing as he asked. Something's definitely not right! Why on the way to the wedding? Castle would have never orchestrated that.
Anyway, I've accepted the fact that I'm just going to have to wait for more answers and, meanwhile, I'll just continue to enjoy the amazing acting and fun that the show has to offer. I cracked up at the preview for next week when Castle is appearing to get beaten up by an invisible attacker! Should be a lot of fun!
I am kinda upset that Beckett didn't go with him the first time to Montreal just because well she should have went. Ryan and Esposito could have worked on the case by themselves until she got back. Gate's may have chewed her out but nothing shes not use to. On the other hand it gave Molly some screen time and we got some father daughter scenes which was very good. Still though she should've had that same drive to help him as she did finding him. Note: I am not mad at Beckett for not going and i liked the way the episode turned out. I just think she should have went. IMHO. I will have to watch it again to add more thoughts to the 2nd trip. The weather got bad and I didnt get all that was said between Castle and Henry.
I wont say I love it but it was really very good played out episode.
I am intrigued. The mystery is not in the writing, but the writer himself Castle.
I was constantly involved, concerned, and stressed and couldn’t wait to learn more!!! Acting, pacing, tension, suspense, intensity—loved my edge of my seat experience while viewing 7x02 MONTREAL!!!
Stana and Nathan—extraordinary acting!!! Molly had more to do, and I thought that she did it beautifully!!! Susan, Tamala, Seamus, Jon, and Penny—again awesome!!! Tamala and Stana/Lanie/Kate—love every scene—want more!!! Ditto, all team—crew and cast!!! Writer/show runner, Andrew W. MARLOWE and director, Alrick RILEY, gave us a marvelous episode, I felt!!! I appreciate the writers, Molly, Rob KYKER, and other CASTLE team members who live tweeted!!!
The CASTLE/GATES kiss; the toy store antics, and the piano music, an apparent nod to Bugs Bunny; CASTLE’S “time out;” Rick’s discovering that, in his absence, ESPLANIE had reunited, underlined by ESPLAINIE actions; and the Canada joke were fun—as was Martha’s grief-counseling date from whom Rick had to hide, while Kate assured him that his mother probably meant well!!!
CASKETT scenes were heart-wrenching—Rick’s expression, while hopeful and loving when responding to Kate’s declarations of love, loyalty, a future together, and her wish to return to their real lives together—the two of them, and to set one month as their talk/decision-making time re: their marriage, finding solid ground—loved this and other, call backs—to me, IE Kate’s face after Meredith’s departure in THE SIGNIFICANCE OF OTHERS; the fact that Rick, although having promised Kate not to do so in HUNT, went without her into possible danger to find crucial information; the love declaration/letter/disk, reminiscent of Kate’s air vent hidden letter to Rick in IN THE BELLY OF THE BEAST; Kate’s twisting/playing with her engagement ring in emotional, CASKETT scenes in both NUMBER ONE FAN and in DRIVEN—leading to my questioning whether or not Kate’s ring is actually bigger and more sparkling?! (:>) ….
I also loved the continuing “new mythology” and mysteries—the Montreal, bank employee, suspiciously to me not acknowledging that he had seen/knew CASTLE; the revelations of the fake Henry JENKINS—who and “why” is he?! On to Dengue Fever; TROPICAL STORM; what aged eleven CASTLE did or saw in those woods?!
I hadn’t expected thorough answers and wasn’t disappointed at the continuing, likely lengthy, “new mythology,” which I had expected!!! Now, on to read Twitter for the Westies and to re-watch as soon as I can download the episode!!!
I appreciate that they've apparently decided to let this move to the background for now, handling it like Beckett's mother's case, several episodes, then return to more routine cases of the week before readdressing it.
As for Alexis going to Montreal with Rick - she's still on summer break (given her father's disappearance she obviously didn't take a summer job or internship this time) while Kate's in the middle of a murder investigation; much easier for Alexis to just take off.
The story that Castle told Beckett back in 2x1 may not have been made up. Maybe it was actually true, only thing that was different was the part of the boy washing up on the beach.
I liked Castle's line about a mystery he could solve when Kate asked him if he was coming with her to the crime scene.
Slight annoyance at yet another kiss interrupted, this time by the dog. That is really getting old. Just let those moments happen already.
Loved the scene of Castle kissing Gates; the look on her face! Would have loved to have seen the follow-up on that discussion with her and Kate.
Agree that the COTW was pretty much an afterthought this week; I even had the killer figured out pretty early on, which almost never happens.
So far season 7 is a two-thumbs up from me!
I also remembered that, in the premier, the cop at the accident scene points out that Castle was dragged up the hill to the road. That doesn't sound like someone who set this all up!

I still think that this has to do with something in his research for Tropical Storm. He may not have known it, but he uncovered something that is better left alone. Among the places you catch Dengue Fever is areas with a tropical climates and maybe it causes memory loss or maybe not, but it could have to lead to West Nile and that could have killed him.
Gun Shots on a dingy, one that grazed him...that tells me he is trying to escape and they left him for dead adrift in the ocean. That is a hel..l of a way to erase a memory.
And Rick is being watched because they followed him to that exact address in Montreal, where the Fake Jenkins or Fake "J", has a gun pointed at him and tells him to just walk away because if he doesn't , he may "Remember". Remember what? Why isn't he just shot and Fake J walks away. Rick did something all right, but what? And if it caused him to be a mystery writer, than what did he see? It may be a rouse to deflect or it may be a direct correlation as to why he is the way he is and fake J knows he won't stop till he gets the story. Compelling...very compelling. Imagine losing a deep dark memory but it keeps rearing its ugly head to come back. This is Rick Castle. Its all about the story and now he needs to share this all with Beckett....wow...Karma is a very fickle bitc..h after all. So we dug up Beckett's past, only to find out she had "forgotten" about a wedding and now Rick....wanting to forget something....
So I guess if Beckett can hide it from herself for all these years, so can Rick. No way in hell. Like I said, this show is all about the story, it always has been, it always will be. This story will be told, when TPTB are ready. Loved the show.
I wonder if the memory comes back in bits and peaces.. We know Rick has a brilliant mind and somehow, someway, he gets to the bottom of this, Hell, I almost thought this smelled like the "Lynchpin" plot, but who knows? So many twists and turns ahead.
While this is still Castle 2.0: The Reboot, there were many of the old elements Castle fans are familiar with such as banter, Castle touching things, Beckett's and Lanie's girl talk, and Esposito teasing Ryan about dressing as a mall cop. But, this is and will be the new mythology much to my chagrin. As I said in my thoughts about the season seven premiere, stick a fork in it done. This train is on a new route and picking up steam. Here's what I mean.
Starting the show, we get the Castle interview. Felt a bit like a double entendre. On one hand, it moved the story forward and later led to the witness photograph. On the other, felt a bit like the show was admitting to the farfetched amnesia plot device but they were very serious about moving the series forward and other changes were made.
Captain Victoria "Iron" Gates is now the new "Cranky" Gates 2.0. I still love her but Gates 1.0 would have decked Castle for kissing her in the middle of the precinct, slapped him with sexual harrassment charges, and banned him from the 12th for life. You can talk about Sun Tzu Art of War all you want but it doesn't work with someone who earned the name "Iron" Gates, who was an interrogator, and who worked in internal affairs. Art of War is for young adults who haven't attended the School of Hard Knocks out in the real world.
We also see a more capitulating, agreeable, and self doubting Beckett 2.0. I cannot imagine Beckett 1.0 staying in the car after being told so by Castle because the UFO nutjob "sounded like a spy". Beckett 1.0 would have had plain clothes officers out there and Esposito on the roof with a rifle. And Montreal? Beckett would have gone with Castle. Alexis isn't trained to see what a career detective sees nor protect her father. How many near death experiences have Castle and Beckett barely survive just because they were checking something out? As for the case work, Esposito and Ryan could easily continue the investigation without her. Look at 4x01 when those two were investigating the case while Beckett and Castle were investigating her mother's. Instead, Beckett said okay because we needed...
Rick 2.0 is emerging as a stronger figure. The show is taking Rick in Paris saving his daughter and taking it to a new level. Now, we have seen a strong Rick before. This is the guy from the second episode who said his lawyers were not there to advice him against getting into trouble but to bail him out when he does. However, through the years, he's taken a step back. As Beckett 1.0 said, it's her job to go through the door first. But the show is trying to elevate Rick while weakening the Beckett character a bit so they'd both be on a more even playing field even if Rick did break his promise in 5x16, "Hunt", after returning from Paris with Alexis.
Beckett: "Please don't do anything like that again without me."
Rick: "I won't."
And of course he does and ends up on the wrong end of a pointed gun. Alexis chastises him and Martha warns him not to open Pandora's Box which is rather interesting. Maybe Martha knows the story? I'm going to geek out for a moment. This amnesia thing kinda reminds me of Star Trek: The Next Generation. There was an episode where the crew discovers that the ship's computer clock had been reset and information deleted by Commander Data. Lots of little inconsistancies and Data ends up as the bad guy. In the end it was revealed that they had cross paths with a technologically superior xenophobic race ready to annihilate the crew when Captain Picard made a deal to have their memories erased and Data was ordered to never reveal what happened. But humans being humans have to investigate mysteries only to find out that secrets were put in place to save or spare lives. I'm hoping this isn't the new arc although whatever Castle's past wrong is, it must be much more than just paying someone else to write a paper for him.
And we get to the final pillow "solid ground" talk scene about distance and getting back to their lives. Well this is their life. If season 7 is the Rick Secret, we should look at season 4, Beckett's wall, for clues, and in the premiere she talks about needing her wall to come down, a wall built up because of her mother's murder, before she can have the kind of relationship she wants. Fast forward to the finale and her life is an utter disaster. No job. Rick is gone. Mother's murder unsolved. The Dragon hasn't been revealed. Maddox escaped. Total and complete failure yet she makes the decision to go to the loft because she wants "you" and together they move forward and take down Bracken. There was no solid ground. As Rick explains in 5x02, "Cloudy With a Chance of Murder": "Point is we don't have the answers. We just have to live with the questions and find our way."
And that's what I mean when I talk about Castle 1.0 and Castle 2.0 and how the season 6 finale disregards 6 seasons of history and rewrites a new mythology loosely based on familiar characters and antics.
At this late stage in the series, 30 days, new venue in the spring (6x14, "Dressed to Kill"), or September (6x12,"Deep Cover"), after the season 6 finale fiasco, I doubt anyone trusts the show at this point. But, that's okay. We're just along for the ride and having fun and hoping to see more of Lanie+Javi and tuning in every week to see what Rick touches.
