Not quite sure how I ended up finding this show, I think I clicked on a fan video in Youtube when watching some of Sara Bareilles videos, but decided I'd give it a whirl...two episodes, so far really liking it...and talk about passion and CHEMISTRY, both on set and behind the scenes... Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe

Fjordmom, for years, friends have encouraged me to read/watch this series--because of my Scottish heritage; love for: the beautiful and extraordinary country; family history research; visiting heritage and other sites; and discovering cousin/researchers!!! Time travel is not, just now, for me; but I love to read about the author, Diana GABALDON; the books; the tours offered; and the television show--all highly regarded and happily savored by fans!!! I follow Diana GABALDON on Facebook and Twitter; I believe that she just returned from location shoots of OUTLANDER!!! Several years ago, my son, SIL, and I visited a site, where Claire/Jamie go to "transport"/reunite!!!- if that is not correct!!! I think that the story, characters, books, television show, and settings are considered amazing!!!

I do like period pieces, particularly in locales "across the pond"...and love the brogue!!!!!! The scenery is beautiful, as well as the main characters...I probably would not have watched based on a description only as I don't think I would have gone for "time travel", but it is making for some interesting twists....if I still like it at the end of this series, I'll be another voice prodding you on!!!!! Not sure if I want to read the books until AFTER I have watched the series...books are usually so much better. I believe series/season 2 is due out in 2016.

This is a very good series. A bit strange and slow in the beginning but mesmerizing. I'm a bit behind but will eventually catch up. Caution: nudity and sex scenes so don't go thinking this will be like Downton Abbey fun for the whole family.

The author lives in our area. she has had a few author meet and greets at the Poisoned Pen Bookstore in Scottsdale. I have read a few of the Outlander books. When we visited Scotland for a month a couple of years back we listened to the first book as an audio book as we drove around the country. It was nice to hear the descriptions and look out the window and see what she was talking about. Also it helped me blend in with the dialect. By the end of our trip in Glasgow I actually had a local person think I was from Scotland. Well, my ancestors did come from Scotland in 1623 so I guess I am from Scotland. I have watched the first season of Outlander. When they have free weekends on Direct TV I just record them and watch them later for free. They are not family friendly for sure but they are interesting.

I sometimes forget my tolerance level for things is pretty high if I feel it's warranted in the context of things. So, CastleFanGran, there IS sex and nudity, as well as violence, blood, VERY "earthy" comments especially by males regarding females. That being said, I hope to be watching episode 7 tonight, and am still enjoying it!

Thanks, Fjordmom and Java, for looking out for me--I have no problem with any of the OUTLANDER features, which you described!!! I love and appreciate your journeys, thoughts, advice, and updates!!! Hmmmmm, it's nearly 7:00 PM CDT; I do not have the STARZ channel--excuses, excuses....!!! Amazon Live Streaming?! iTunes?! Oh, just not "there"?!!! (:>)

But if the TV version is pretty close to the book, how did you manage to stay on the road through some the "action" between Black Jack Randall and Jamie? ?!!!!!!!! It was hard for me to watch, with a kind of OMG, how far are they going to go with this feeling... the actors really had to work through a gamut of emotions, for sure! I think I read that her books run up to 800 pages so I for sure will not be reading them...not for a while anyway.

We didn't listen every day as we would stay in one B &B for 3-4 nights and your the area. Sent from my SM-N910V using proboards

Trying not to spoil it for anyone who might be contemplating watching this first season...I think I had higher hopes at the beginning for the show than I did at the end....the scenery was great, costumes wonderful, especially the women...the emotion between Jamie and Claire, but even supporting actors/actresses, was exceptional at times. I was taken aback, actually shocked/horrified at times, by how far certain aspects were explored between Jamie and Black Jack Randall...this series certainly asked a lot of the main actors/actress so kudos to them for the range of emotions they had to portray for their characters....the storyline kind of dragged and fizzled out a little bit by the end of the series for me ... but I will definitely watch the next season when it comes out.

I loved these books when I first read them. Kinda fell in love with Jamie Fraser a little bit. They are long books, 600+ pages per book, but I found them very easy to get lost in and go through 100 pages in no time.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to see the TV series as we don't have any cable or satellite service. Hoping Santa will be leaving the DVD set under the tree for me.
I followed a couple of different reviewers who recapped the show every week, and for the most part it followed the book. I think I do recall a couple of episodes where it was mentioned that the story strayed from the book a bit, but not much. I'd have to go back through the recaps to find those episodes. I read the corresponding chapters of the book each week to follow along with the show.
I'll definitely be following along with season 2 and book 2.
