I’m obviously in the minority but I think watching Castle and Beckett navigate having a child would be fun. First because this couple has gotten to experience so little joy. It feels like everything in their lives, from their first kiss, to their I Love Yous to their wedding, has been filled with angst. I’d love to see their joy and excitement at the news of having a child. I think Castle would be very cute/funny trying to manage a pregnant Beckett at work. I don’t think it would limit her much more than being a Captain already does. And how much fun could Castle be trying to get Kate to the hospital on time. I also think that managing a baby could really be entertaining. The entire family could be involved with Martha, Alexis and even Jim Beckett doing baby sitting duty. I don’t think a baby needs to be the focal point. The hand offs and loft scenes would simply be at the beginning and end of each episode. Personally, I think that a Caskett baby could bring some much needed joy and some fun complications to a show that seems to be having trouble finding a way to make a stable relationship entertaining. 2 years ago I would have loved this scenario. I just can't see Kate doing this right now. What I worry about Kate is what would come first, Vikram. LokSat, or baby Castle. To me, Stana always gets the most our of her characters, that is her strength, the way she opens them up inside/out, and to me, she is showing a lot of insecurity still and yes, darkness plays a huge role in her life, as does her dedication to the truth. And I still think she can be manipulated by the wrong people...but never by Castle. Love is there, but it is easily separated from the job at hand, so I can see why pushing Castle away was so easy for her. Would a baby get the same treatment? She needs help and at this point, I don't think she fully accepts what Castle told her as the truth. It made her look at herself, but I don't feel that is the most important thing in her life right now. Only her work. But yes, I would have lived for the baby scenes. I like your post!!! I guess, I am damaged to a certain extent when it comes to this show. Maybe I need help. LOL

Perhaps, but certainly not THIS SEASON. If kate suddenly announced "I'm pregnant" We (not to mention Castle) would always be left to wonder if she only walked away from the case came back out of a sense of obligation instead of her love for Castle which obviously hadn't been enough reason for her to say no to her obsession in the first place. She would not have worked out anything or learned anything and it would only be a set up to do this all over again this time abandoning a child and not just her marriage which would be unforgivable even to Castle. It would drive a bigger gulf into their relationship than she would be able to cross. They need to fix their relationship with each other before they even consider bringing a child into the mix.

shutterbug5269, I completely agree. She shouldn't get pregnant this season. I think the writers have written the characters into an emotional corner and I don't see them finding their way out of it any time soon. I also don't believe that these show runners are capable of writing the fun, entertaining, family arc that I'd love to see when they can't seem to write a fun, entertaining couple despite the incredible foundation they've been handed! If we somehow manage to get Castle season 9 and some new show runners to take the helm, I'd be happy to see a Caskett family in the future.

Yeah that is the way Bones did it. She got pregnant in real life so they added the last line in the season final. "I'm pregnant" , they had no clue how to do this but they have managed to make the family work somehow. I had confidence that Millar would be able to do this,I don't think our current writers know how to do this. Sent from my SM-N910V using proboards

Yeah, after totally jumping the shark... repeatedly with this story arc, the last thing they should do is jump another one by throwing a baby into it. I really don't see a Caskett baby in the near future unless Stana really does get pregnant. It would have to be way down the road otherwise. Especially if Hawley and Winters stick around. I never thought I'd say this, but I kinda want Amman back. He was just starting to find his stride at the end of season 7, the last few episodes were quite good.

Though I've always said that a pregnancy scare might be interesting... but with an actual pregnancy best left to another season.

I must be missing something. I do not. They are no where near ready for a baby in the state of present circumstances. And anyone who thinks a pregnancy/baby/child will "help" a marriage, they are sadly mistaken.
Just my two cents. FWIW.

I've always wanted a PG scare. Not necessarily a baby but the real possibility of one would make for a couple of great episodes.

I can see both sides here. While I can see pre-S8 Kate and Rick having a baby would be lots of fun, it could also limit some storylines. BUT, Im not a paid storyteller or writer. I think someone smart can come up with Caskett-like scenerios to entertain. The baby doesnt need to take up all the screen time and why cant married people with a family continue to work together. Continue status quo, just with a child. That being said, S8 Kate and Rick need Dr Burke STAT before any child comes along.
