They will keep up the separation in public but will really be together. Ok...doesn't make much sense but ok. No baby in the future. Probably a good thing as they can't even handle how to write for a very in love couple. It sounds like they think their numbers are just fine. I guess ABC has nothing else so they will keep Castle for now. tvline.com/2015/11/23/castle-season-8-rick-kate-reunite-fall-finale/

The only question missing was whether they expected such an overwhelmingly negative response to the break up storyline or at the very least how they feel about the fans' reaction. They can't pretend they didn't know we hated it. But when they can't admit that they could have done even one thing differently, I guess we can't expect too much acknowledgment that things didn't necessarily go as planned. Or maybe they did and we're all just crazy. :-).

Catch-22. If Rick and Kate reunite publicly, the hit squad must immediately attack else the entire separation is a farce. Rick and Kate will have to go on the run with Vikram for the remainder of the season or until they catch/kill the partner, get caught/killed themselves, or find leverage.. Also, Martha, Alexis, and Jim are all at risk and the show is forced to deal with repercussions to family and friends. They wrote themselves into a corner.

How is Rick at risk but her father not? How does she separate herself from him and not make him a target as well? This story just doesn't make sense.

Or maybe they did and we're all just crazy. :-). That would have been a good question to ask. Considering the answer to the question about, in retrospect would they have changed anything, would have been interesting to see what they had to say about the negative reaction to something they still apparently think was great storytelling. But seriously, they can still sit there and say they think this was a good idea? And they are excited about how it all turned out? And in retrospect, they wouldn't have done anything differently? I think tycho said it well in another post.....what are they smoking? And somehow this quote really is not all that reassuring, considering their views on what happened with the first 8 episodes.... "And we’re excited about what the next third’s going to be, and also how we’re going to take it to the end of the season."

"...but all we can do is try to tell really good stories and hope that people want to watch them."
Ok, they really need to stop using this line, nobody is buying it anymore.
