Loved your review. It had some insights I didn't consider, especially with regards to your take on how Rick is acting. Maybe he's getting a little lost without Kate around? Anyway, I have mixed feelings about this episode. I started out liking it, then when Slaughter began to act nice, it felt weird...not his character at all. But, I did like his advice to Rick to find out what Kate's up to. I also did not like how Castle was shutting Ryan and Espo out, but it was nice to see them take charge. Overall, an OK ep.

One small issue, Christine. Ryan and Esposito are not Castle's closest friends, they're Kate's and always have been. Nor have either of them shown him any real loyalty lately either if they were. He wanted the real killer, whereas Ryan and Esposito were perfectly willing to railroad Slaughter and were not willing to hear him out like Kate would have. Why didn't they believe Castle? Had Slaughter gone to holding the investigation would have stopped cold. He actually did therm a solid by preventing them from railroading an innocent man. This is what the second time he's done that since becoming a PI? The truly sad thing is that I found this episode to be the most entertaining episode of the whole season so far. Beckett's absence actually reduced the pall of melancholy their separation brought to the proceedings. Something I never ever thought I would ever say. There was more snap and energy between Castle and Slaughter than there has been between Castle and Beckett since this whole debacle of a season started.

Well written ProudTVJunkie ... not too negative in my book. This seems to be the year of supertext, rather than subtext, where the writers have to fill in all the plot holes with words and try to explain things ... it would be interesting to know how someone who just started watching the show feels about this season...maybe things just wouldn't bother them. My favorite moment was "momma lion". I just can't cotton up to Adam Baldwin/Slaughter...I find him grating for the most part.

You call them as you see them, Christine. You just sound as frustrated as MANY of us feel over where this show has gone. As a comedy, this epi was cutesy like The Nose but these episodes are a far cry from the sharp, wonderfully written show that it once was. They have made Rick into this gutless wonder who will take any crap that Kate dishes out and he just continues to try harder to "win" her back. I, too, am having a hard time with this "storyline" and wonder if they can save things in a remotely believable manner. At least, in earlier years, he would call her out over her actions, but that seems to be a thing of the past.

You're doing a great job with your reviews. You're still trying to find the best in each episode while continuing to point out all of the issues that are happening both within individual episodes and the overall direction of this season.
