Lots of bromance tonight. Let's see how the boys behave when the Captain is away. Stop by later to share your thoughts, please.

The episode wasn't bad, but it wasn't Castle. If this ever becomes the way it goes, then I'm definitely done. The ending gave me a little hope, but next weeks preview pissed me off! Are you kidding me? It better be ABC's manipulation of previews to get a rise out of us. If it isn't and Beckett is calling a lawyer for a divorce on their anniversary, I'll lose it for sure. I feel like everyone at ABC is trying to piss people off into not watching. I love the Beckett character, it has always been my favorite character of this show, but this is killing that!

Tonight's episode had its moments, but overall, continuing with the trend this season.....less than enjoyable. Why would Castle be so willing to buddy up with Slaughter after his last encounter with him. And make Ryan and Espo look rather foolish into the process. While it was nice to see the guys actually piece together the case on their own, the show needs the dynamic that having Beckett in the mix brings. I was glad to see that Castle at least had a little more backbone and wasn't such a wimp with Slaughter this time. Can we PLEASE get the real Castle back, soon? ?? (the show and the character)

While I missed Beckett, I actually thought the episode was OK. Not great, but there were some funny moments. Loved hearing Nathan sing! Martha writing a book on unsolicited advice - love it! I will not panic about the word "divorce" that I heard because it was not in context with anything else. I do want Castle and Beckett back together more than anything. Maybe castle will take Slaughter's advice at the end and try to figure out what's going on with Kate.

I agree with the first 2 posters. The show was cute BUT this is not the show I fell in love with. Where was Kate, by the way? That preview also did nothing to ease the angst. A divorce lawyer?? REALLY!!!

6 weeks of this nonsense is enough! 8 will be intolerable. Stop with the mind games. We are guessing the preview is just a tease...BUT ENOUGH IS ENOUGH ALREADY.

I knew that Beckett would not be in this one so I just tried to enjoy the boys and Castle. I enjoyed the revelation about Slaughter's ex being an opera singer and Slaughter majoring in musical theater. ( That was Jon Huertez major in college) To hear Castle sing from West Side Story with Slaughter was fun. Very fun way to get the thugs disoriented. I liked the growth in the Slaughter character. I think him and the genius kiddo will be good for both of them. Hopefully Castle will take some of the advice that Slaughter have him and move to get Late back home.
It is interesting that this was filled after the next 2 episodes. That could very well be because they knew Stana would be in Europe when they needed to film so they just switched the schedule? They have switched more episodes from the order they have filmed this season way more than previous seasons.
This was not the Castle I know and love but it was fun to watch without expectations.

I actually found myself enjoying the show. The catch? I realized afterwards that it felt like watching an episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine or some other comedic buddy cop show. I didn't miss Beckett in the least and that's the saddest commentary of all. It was actually kind of nice not to have to face another anguished exchange between she and Castle. When I throw all expectations to the wind and look at the show like I would any other show I might casually watch, it's fun, just like The Nose was. It's like the Castle show I fell passionately in love with is gone and what we have left is a buddy cop spin-off. Here are some things I liked. Martha and her unsolicited advice, plus, writing a book, was wonderful. She is such a grounding force in Castle's life. I sure wish we'd get a Martha-centered episode. There was just enough of Alexis in this one for me again. She was running the office but didn't do much other than some background investigating. Same with Hayley. I was fine with how little of her we saw but it does grate on me that Castle's hired her to assist him. I don't see her as necessary at all. I had read that they intended to show a different side of Slaughter in this return appearance so I was expecting the softer side to come out. Having him previously married to an opera singer and being a veteran of musical theater was a stretch, however, since it led to that funny scene with Nathan singing and snapping his fingers, I'll go along with it! I was fine with him being a good cook and it was fine for him to give some relationship advice since he was speaking from experience. They did manage to keep Slaughter consistent to his previous role enough to make me willing to see both sides of him. He was still gruff, impulsive and physical as a first response and even at the end, the kid had to call him out on saying he'd beat Castle up. He also made remarks about both Alexis and Beckett being good looking and that's consistent with his character too. I was very glad to hear Castle verbalize a BIT of frustration over this separation at the beginning. We all agree, honey! IT'S GETTING OLD!!!!!! At least initially, he saw Slaughter as an unnecessary risk, but the draw of a good story sucked him in. At least he made it clear to Slaughter that they'd do things his way this time and there were several times when Slaughter didn't get his way. Another thing I liked about this one is that Castle was NOT acting as a PI and trying to worm his way into a case. It was good to see him at the murder board towards the end and being treated as an equal part of the team since he was assisting another detective. All in all, it was an entertaining hour of TV for me. I checked my emotions at the door and enjoyed a few laughs ..... but let me tell you about this AWESOME show that I used to love .........

I loved it! Pure enjoyment! So many funny moments and unexpected twists. Except Slaughter mentoring the kid at the end, that was a little predictable and.... a little too simplistic but whatever.
I wouldn't get too excited about the divorce tease in the preview. They've always tried to make it look completely different from what it actually is.

I really wanted to like this episode but I just didn’t. In some ways, I hated it.
I liked Martha’s book and Alexis’ DefCon was cute. I didn’t mind Slaughter. I even thought his character development was kind of sweet.
My biggest problem was Rick Castle. He felt so out of character to me. His wimpy kid persona in the beginning went too far for me, even if he did dial it back later. I hated that he lied to Espo and Ryan and didn’t trust them to further investigate Slaughter. I hated that he stole their car and made them look like fools.
As for Slaughter’s advice about putting his wife’s needs first, doesn’t Castle consistently put Beckett’s needs ahead of his own?
Even the West Side story skit felt more like Nathan and Adam having fun instead of the characters getting one over on the bad guys and that kind of thing just bugs me. When I watch a show I want to be immersed in those characters, not the actors. Just my pet peeve and I don’t expect others to feel the same way.
I was hoping to find this episode fun but was terribly disappointed by it.
As for the promo, ABC has always pulled stupid stunts like this with promos. I’m not going to give it another thought.

I'm having a bad week of entertainment. Spectre was mediocre. The Walking Dead was okay. Blindspot was boring. Castle? Egads! Some funny moments but so many buts. Martha. Love Martha. Didn't like Martha talking about Beckett's mothers death changing her because that's past tense. Kate was already changed when Martha and Rick met her. It's Rick's love and his family's acceptance of Beckett that changed her to become more than she could be and brought the wall down. This separation arc and the justification for it just doesn't fit in with Castle lore. ProudTVJunkie covered everything else I wanted to say about this episode although I probably enjoyed it a bit more than she did. Sure, there were some funny moments but this is an episode dependent on the story lines before it and so far this has not been a good season so these boys appear more like a distraction than cool while we wait for this arc to end. Dancing in front of drawn weapons in a room full of killers? I doubt you can get a jump on the shooters to take them all out without getting yourself shot. The slapstick comedy continues from 6x23. I seriously don't think I'm the intended target audience anymore.

IMHO, in this episode, I missed Stana/Kate but with my CASKETT expectations for future CASTLE episodes, I enjoyed COOL BOYS!!! We can appreciate our varied reactions and opinions!!! I also appreciate Susan SULLIVAN’S and other CASTLE cast’s recent and current positive, in public, sentiments!!!
I appreciated Molly’s/Alexis’ lovely support of her dad and her investigative knowledge and skills!!! Susan/Martha—as always for me, was outstanding!!! I smiled at her obvious support of and empathy for Rick, “kiddo,” her “unsolicited advice,” including her literary intentions and aspirations, favored, it seems, by Rick’s agent—“but don’t worry about that now”!!! I liked, too, her empathy for her daughter-in-law, “Katherine’s” past, young-age scars, dealing with only begun, and her encouragement to Rick to “keep the faith” and that things between Richard and Katherine “tend to sort themselves out” eventually!!!
Despite SLAUGHTER’S demotion and unethical tactics, not admirable, to say the least, I warmed to his efforts to find the actual killer and to mentor Victor, to his responses to “Sherlock’s” personal marriage challenges and his assertions of CASKETT’S love for one another, including that BECKETT shouldn’t have to go through whatever she is going through alone--hardly at odds with Rick's feelings; and Ethan’s obvious hope that CASKETT will survive!!! I also found believable as Adam played his character’s self-revealed vulnerabilities, his feelings that he lost his wife because he wasn’t man enough to put her needs first and that he does not want to see either that situation or result for CASKETT—and SLAUGHTER’S own musical theater background, apron, and sauce, and his being on such terms with his ex-wife/opera star that he uses her apartment!!!
I felt that Nathan/CASTLE played wonderfully his own vulnerability over the CASKETT separation, his need for “story” and for “a distraction,” and love for his wife, as well as his new “rules” for working with SLAUGHTER, and Rick’s desire for justice!!! Of course, CASTLE knows of “Maddie,” successful and highly regarded opera singer—and with SLAUGHTER, could perform an, episode-title-appropriate song from WEST SIDE STORY, which so frustrated Rick’s and Ethan’s captors, that justice prevailed!!! Even though RYSPOSITO did not see SLAUGHTER as innocent of murder, as always, Seamus and Jon made their characters and their police work and bromance admirable, when appropriate, fun!!!
I would always be happy with more Tamala/Lanie in any episode and with Lanie’s backstory!!!

While the character was mildly better this time,I'm not a big Slaughter fan.Hope his time on Castle is done. No Beckett at all! Bothers me to no end. TPTB know this is an issue with the fandom.
Like Christine,I'm absolutely not worried about a divorce between our DD. Promo crapola from ABC. Love story....duh!
I don't get what exactly Toks character is supposed to be doing on the show.Someone remind me.
This episode just didn't do it for me. It felt fragmented from the start.Didn't improve as time went by. Not an epi I'll look back on or rewatch. Didn't hate it.....exactly.
Just ready to move our DD's story onward and hopefully upward.
I'm not a browncoat. I'm a Castle fan.
