I'm afraid this won't bode well for ratings and the patience of many fans. There's been a lot of frustration already with the lack of Caskett screen time and with Beckett out of an entire episode, I worry that there'll be a substantial group of people who get disgusted and walk away.

Nathanfan, it may be true that we'll lose more fans, but I'm wondering if more time off was part of Stana's deal when she resigned. If she asked for that time and TPTB gave it to her, they probably had to get creative with the filming schedule. (I know that she was in Italy, still don't understand why). If we'd had more Caskett this season, this one episode without her probably wouldn't be that big of a deal. I think it could be. But it's almost like the producers hands were tied because of the timing of Stana's trip and requests for more time off. Just my wandering thoughts.

It's not the time off itself that's the problem. I don't begrudge anyone a break! But it's the combination with the current storyline that creates the problem. If we had five episode of them falling all over each other in marital bliss, then this would be a fun little break with lots of eager longing between them. Instead, we get 20 minutes of cumulative time of them together all season and now practically a whole episode apart. Here's hoping the last two episodes can make up for it.

Maybe it would have been alittle more helpful if they made it seem like she was away because she was in a hurry trying to solve her mystery case so she could go home to her husband? You know, the case she is so eager to solve? Writers knew she would be gone all episode - make use of that time to not only further this achingly slow story, but give viewers something to let us know Beckett is trying!

I'm sorry, but what the hell is going on here?? We went from the wonderful chemistry of Rick and Kate to basically nothing in S8. The show was based on THEM. If Katic and Fillion need so much off time or can't work together or whatever, then end the show and put us out of our misery. This is getting painful after the magic we once had. I've already seen a couple articles saying Castle is already iffy for a S9 and we are not even a third of the way into S8. It just breaks my heart to see this happening. JMO
