We have to remember that the writers are doing this for a living. They want to make this all work. How different it is to write in today's Twitter and on line world where they get immediate feedback on how fans feel. You either read it and cry or you just stay off line and write in your room with the other writers. They are trying their best. I sure wouldn't want to be a writer in today's world. I agree completely. The writers can and should do what they think is best. And I would never tweet them or talk smack about them. In the context of our discussion, however, I think it is reasonable to wonder about the direction.

Arky, from your lips to the writer's ears and pens. I know things are supposed to get better for our duo but I just hope the fans stay with the show while we are forced to watch this play out. The ratings are not getting any better, which worries me. Looking forward to this evening's episode and so glad my Pittsburgh Steelers are not on Monday night football this week.

I respectfully disagree. 1) ABC has gotten by with minimal promotion through the years because I believe they are relying on word of mouth, bloggers, vidders, and forums to promote their show. That word of mouth goes both ways whether that quality is good or bad. 2) This is a long, running series with diehard fans. It is a money maker for all involved. If you cannot write nor produce a quality product, you shouldn't be involved. This isn't a rookie show deserving a honeymoon period.

My personal opinion is that the writers should be giving us a show that we can't wait to tune in to see. One in which we're clamoring to see what happens next. Instead they've written a story where they have to beg fans to hang in there for some mythical payoff. That's not the way this is supposed to work.

I keep wondering what could the payoff be? They're happily married? They already were/are happily married. What could be a new payoff to justify the angst?

They repeated the exact same mistake made in season 7. If you have to explain it in an interview or tweet, you blew it. Interviews and tweets are supplemental material to add a little extra insight to the story or give a peak BTS. This show no longer has the credibility to ask especially with new show runners and writers who have not proven themselves and have now dug a huge hole with an incredulous plot. They were handed a series that was sorta corrected with the season 7 finale and completely blew it by the second episode. Could also be someone made the decision at ABC that I'm no longer the target audience.
