I have a better grasp on whats going on here. This seperation is a distraction tacticed that Beckett devise to reflect Castle attention on what is actually happening. She knows that going after the people who killed McCord and the rest of her old team, is a suicide mission, so in away she is trying to keep Castle out of harms way. She knows that Castle will follow her know matter, she can't have that. This obsession of hers is not actual an obsession, but guilt. She feel responsible about the deaths of her old AG team. Beckett is all about getting justice for the dead, that is what she is set out in doing, its just this will be different because the stakes are higher, and shes not willing to gamble with Castle's life. And she needs to keep Castle out of it. If he starts digging/gets involved, they will go after him. The only plausible reason for Kate still being alive, is that there is a missing piece. She should be dead. But they need something from her/need her to lead them to something. That something might not even be known to the villians yet, but what they know of Kate, and her predictability, they are figuring she will lead them to it. Kate wants to finish this fast. The faster she finishes it/finds out who Bracken's partner is, and whatever other missing pieces she is going for, the less chance of Castle trying to do his super-sleuthing on his own. I don't know. I could be completely wrong. I'm half asleep, but nothing else makes sense to me. She would be dead by now unless they needed her. And they don't care about Castle, unless he gets involved, and that is what Kate is trying to prevent. Just watched the episode, btw. It was better than I thought, let me just say that. Loved Espo & Ryan, and Lanie is just trying to be loyal to Kate and be there for her. Alexis & Martha hate this, but are trying to respect Kate's wishes while being there for Castle. Rick & Kate broke my heart. I thought they conveyed the longing beautifully in the cell. With as much as I didn't like, underlying storyline & all, I found just as much to like. It still felt like my beloved Castle. For the most part. Or maybe I was wearing my rose-colored glasses tonight and didn't know it. Cleaned house all day, so I'm tired. But I have to say, honestly, for as upset as I was last week, I was thankful to have my beloved show to watch to relax with this late evening, while enjoying a cup of tea. I'm going to feel like I've lost some old friends when this show ends. I just hope it's not too soon. Romantic, sentimental sap. It's getting worse as I get older. Just sayin'. Okay, good night TV Land. Til tomorrow.....

I watched this ep a second time last night...with the first view I felt more sadness and a general feeling of things being unsettling, but on second view I did enjoy it more...for the most part. I don't need to see murder victims being impaled, blood dripping, but, whatever, I guess this is the new DARK Castle, where we are going to love the "fun and touching" (tweet from Hawley) episodes...OK, I'm being too negative. Yes, I did like this episode a lot more. Loved Lucy, the boys masquerading as students ( a bit of a stretch, yes)....growing ear hair, AARP card, "fiber is your friend". This time around I was more in tune with some of the Casketty moments ...the first time I just rolled my eyes at the throwbacks to previous eps, but this time I was able to really enjoy those moments. The scene when Kate and Rick were locked in the cell had some great chemistry. I think what I find unsettling is the juxtaposition of the more "light" aspects of the ep up against the continuing Kate plotline and all it entails and the sadness/angst of Kate and Rick being apart. I can't really explain it well, so I'll stop there...wish I was as eloquent as some others on this board . And, last, NO, I do not want a steady diet of Alexis, her sexed-up, know-it-all, super sleuth persona, who glibly continues to spend her Dad's money (scotch)....NO, NO, NO. Anyway, I'll keep watching...and hoping that the writers will somehow have an epiphany that they can write a show to grab the attention of the younger demo but still satisfy those of us that KNOW that a happily married couple can indeed be a "VALUE ADD".

Some story lines never go away.Pick any episode that featured Beckett's mothers case and add yet another twist to it. As to the rumors running all over the net that Stana and Nathan now suddenly hate each other? I find those ludicrous. The core character of Alexis has been severely damaged if not destroyed. Actually I saw it as the only part of this episode that was new ground. I miss Alexis as Castle's sounding board and conscience. I don't need her being his PI partner or more woman than Beckett. Bracken lives on in death. Die damn it die. My comments are not meant to offend or disrespect anyone on or associated with the show. They are simply the gut feeling I've had since 6/23.

Look, I am just trying to make some sense of this all, and I can't. To the network, I say that if you have a formula that works, don't blow it up.....just fine tune it when you need to. Bones got away from it, but thank god they the gumption to blow up the Gravedigger's head to reunite Bones and Boothe quickly before it got out of hand.
The problem is, the writers have opened up the same can of worms that they should have kept closed when Kate broke the wall. She understood she needed Castle's help. She ran from him then, but then worked her way back, but then lied about a certain job in DC, which she was going to take either way and off we go again.
OK...she gets fired because she is all about the truth and not the greater good. So is she an Agent now? We don't know. But now she lies to Rick again and has dug a grave and not so much hurt herself, cause she can justify it under the lie that she is Protecting Castle.
WHAT I AM TRYING TO SAY IS THAT NOW SHE BELIEVES SHE HAS TO LEAVE TO SAVE THE WORLD THAT WAS JUST FINE WITHOUT HER. SUGARCOAT THIS ANYWAY YOU WANT, BUT THE MORE SHE STAYS AWAY, THE MORE RELENTLESS HE IS GOING TO GET AND SHE IS EITHER GOING TO HAVE TO ACCEPT HER HUSBAND AS HER PARTNER OR FORGET ABOUT HIM AND WAIT FOR THE NEXT BECKETT CRUSADE.
There are two distinct personalities here and that was what we loved about them. This is not a Beckett saving the world scenario anymore. This is Kate saving herself to make her marriage stronger. See Rick got her to see the other side of the coin, but she got the two headed coin again and it keeps coming up heads. She can't change it. She is Sophia Turner only nice and caring.
Now I know she can change, but sooner or later, while she is digging a bullet out of her arm in some dark ally, that she is going to come to the realization that the only one who can make sense of this is Rick. And she is going to have to swallow her foolish pride and ACCEPT HIM AS HER PARTNER IN CRIME TO DEATH TO THEY PART FOR THE TIME OF THEIR LIVES!!!!
Until then, this is all a moot point. Rick can take care of himself. She needs to accept that he can help her solve this stupid show canceling ARC.
Sorrry, I am venting, but it is the only way I can get myself in a frame of mind to watch this show again. I apologize.

No need to apologize. I am frustrated too. I didnt think the spark was missing. I just can't wrap my head around what's going on either.

So my thoughts...I didn't get a chance to fully watch the episode Monday as initially the story elements where bothering me too much and I just could not stand the separation of Castle and Kate, so I walked out of the room. I finally watched it through just now, however, and it didn't bother me as much as it first started to. While I still don't like the separation and the reasoning for it, I am not as angry as I was after 8x02. Though I don't know how I will feel with the coming episodes, at least for now I am not as ready to stop watching as was when I walked out on Monday.

I have watched the episode 3 times and each time I see something that I missed and therefore like it better, though, I did not dislike it the first viewing. Unless in all my viewings I missed something, Kate did not lie to Rick, she just told him she needed space for a little while, that she loved him and hoped he would take her back. I truly hope all of us long time viewers hang on for the rest of the ride. Like everything in life, this too shall pass and we will look back and maybe think, this wasn't so bad after all. Compared to other shows, even with all it's faults, it is by far the best on tv. I've been watching Blindspot and while it is good, every episode has her kicking the a$$ out of someone and she always has that deer in the headlights look. If this was happening on Castle, the fandom would be blowing up the boards and social media more so than now. Of course, this is just my opinion. I Love the show, love reading the boards and feel like I know you even though we have never or probably will never meet. Have a wonderful day!
