I am still shocked that I am considering this, but does anyone have an opinion on which would be the best 'Smart' phone for yours truly? My lovely bride still refuses one, and I have been holding out since when we need someone to check the internet, we always have a friend nearby with their own smart phone. However, it is hard to ignore your sisters, especially mine as they've pretty much had me wrapped around their fingers since they were born...so I'm looking at the Samsung Note 4. Note, I'm not looking at the Note 5 since I've held it and it's worse than stainless steel appliances for showing fingerprints. What on earth were they thinking?
Anyway there is the iPhone 6 Plus that is being 'suggested' by the people at AT&T and Verizon, which makes me wonder if they get a kickback for it. I already own two Kindles and a Samsung Galaxy tablet. Since I'm no longer in a contract, I'm open for suggestions.
Java? You out there???

I absolutely loved my Note 2, I just got the Note 4 since my old one started to die. Since you are use to Android devices I suggest the Note 4. Sent from my SM-N910V using proboards

I agree with Tycho. I would add that if the important folks in your life are on a certain platform, stick to that platform if you're new to smartphones. I'm in an iPhone circle of friends and family so I'm typing this on an iPhone 6 Plus even though I HATE the safari web browser (no Adobe flash support). I use Dolphin web browser if anyone is wondering. I live on my phone for work, play, health & fitness, shopping, etc, but I only need a 2GB data plan. Beware of FaceBook and videos eating up your data plan. "Apps Gone Free" is addictive.

Oh, and thx to castlekat for nudging me in the ribs with her elbow about your question. I'm extremely busy right now and hopefully will return in time for the premiere. Avoiding social media like the plague, too. Spree be me!

I like Java's comments. I use my Note 4 when we are on the road for everything from banking, paying bills, during the web, streaming video, paying on fb. I have been with Verizon for a long time and have had a smart phone since they came out so I have unlimited data for$29 a month. I can use my phone as a hot spot for the laptop also. When I am doing banking type of things I want a secure data not a free open public network. The note 4 can do this. I have found Verizon to be the most consistent data connection all over the country. Other companies might be cheaper but what good does that do if you have no signal? I hope this helps you.

I have to agree with Java and Tycho......stick to the platform you already know. If you are already using an Android device then I would probably go with the Note 4.
I can't speak to the Note 4's ease of use since I am an Apple person all the way but my sister has one and loves it and she is the least techy person I know. I think her favorite thing is the "pen" it comes with. I don't think you can go wrong with it, even if you will be a "light" user like she is. She has 1 GB data on Verizon, as do I, and we have found that to be sufficient for what we do on our phones.
Except for a brief 2-year stint with AT&T, I have been with Verizon since I've had a cell phone and I haven't had a lick of service issues, no matter where I've been, even down here in backwoods Arkansas. Can't say that for AT&T.

Thanks folks, I appreciate your help. I checked out which platform is used most by my kinfolk (gotta make CF feel at home) and it's Android, so even though the price of the iPhone 6 Plus will be less pretty soon, it looks like the Note 4 is for me, especially as I always wish I have a notepad with me to write something down.
As for the provider...hmmm, that's a question. I'm currently with AT&T primarily since through my company I get a 17% discount. Gotta weigh almost $25.00 per month extra with Verizon against their better coverage. One thing I can guarantee, I won't be on Facebook despite most of my family being there, nor will I tweet. My social media consists of this board and FF, otherwise I live in a cave.
Oh, and no texting! It took 8 months of cold laser therapy to get rid of my carpel tunnel 10 years ago, I certainly don't want it coming back now!
Thanks again everyone...

RG you will be able to touch the microphone and just talk to send a text do no worries about hand damage LOL. If you have a Costco membership check out their prices. The reason I upgraded to the new phone is that it was free. $99 for phone, $99 for Square Trade protection (they cover everything except if you lose your phone) and I will get a $200 rebate for getting the Note 4. I also love Costco Sent from my SM-N910V using proboards

Kinfolk!!!! ROFL! You sound like my father using that term! The note-taking feature of the Note is precisely why my sis got the phone. She sits on my couch daily and makes list after list after list.... Let us know how you like it when you take the plunge.

I can't blame you on the not wanting to tweet thing. I sometimes wish I wasn't on twitter either. I swear the negativity there and Tumblr vis a vis Castle is almost worse than on the old ABC boards. Staying in the cave might not be such a bad idea. But text messaging is basically my lifeline to a lot of people. I'm firmly in the Android camp myself too. Go with whatcha know!

I absolutely love my iPhone. It's easy to use and organize. After having one for the last three years I can't imagine having a different phone.

iPhone gurl here. I adore it. Ease of use is number one for me. As it would be, our oldest son is a computer programmer/software developer, and he has never been on board with Apple products. Except his MAC, but he's also moved on from that. It's his preference. My husband, youngest son & myself prefer the iPhone.
Just two-cents worth from a techy-idiot.
