Hi All,
Hope you're having a good week. Halloween is just around the corner and it looks like we're in for one of the warmest ones on record.
We had a beautiful weekend. We took the dog hiking and saw a castle in Pennsylvania. All the trees are turning color, so it was the perfect day for a hike.
So, what are you up to this week? Check in and let us know.

It was so hot yesterday when I returned that I went for a nice swim. The pool was only 70 but it was in the 90’s so it felt nice. I can’t believe I got into my pool at the end of October. My one camping group usually has a campout for Halloween but it was early this year so I will have to give out candy. I’m catching up with the new season of TV shows. I just watched NCIS and saw that Seamus had a nice part. It sounds like he will have a reoccurring role as a bad guy this year. Nice to see him getting work.

I was in the local hospital emergency room for more than four hours a couple days ago. I had a terrible pain suddenly develop in the lower left side of my abdomen. A bulge appeared that was substantial ... almost tennis ball size. I had no warning...although maybe I had just ignored some discomfort but do not recall that. Nevertheless, when this pain happened, it was like nothing I had ever experienced. It just 'hit me'. Dawn was at the local early voting poll as a volunteer observer. I almost called 911 for help because I was too worried about driving. Suddenly, the pain just stopped completely but the bulge was still there although size had diminished greatly. About that time, Dawn arrived home. As a trained nurse, she went into action. I felt like a fool since the pain was gone and bulge had diminished to almost nothing. Early the next day [and under pressure], I went to 'sick call' at the hospital and reported the experience and the fact that all symptoms were gone. Since I was not a priority, and at my request, I waited for my turn. The wait was less than a half hour. After four hours of examinations and all sorts of prodding and poking, extractions, then drinking stuff and waiting to be scanned, the conclusion was that I had a developing hernia and needed to see a surgeon. They saw no need for immediate attention. However, they warned that if there was even the beginning of similar experience, get to emergency room or call 911 immediately. I have an appointment scheduled in early December. I am having frequent status inquiries from Dawn, our son who is a doctor, and daughter-in-law who is a nurse practitioner. I have no idea what will be next other than the status check by the surgery and discussion of what, if anything, to do.

Larry it is a good thing you have medical professionals in your family. Hernias need to be addressed. Hope you get it removed without further pain.

Christine, we were in TN and saw some really nice colors in the Smokies too, although somewhat muted due to the drought they've experienced. Beautiful weather though.
T! When you mentioned how hot it was I suddenly heard Johnny Carson's audience say "How hot was it!" Definitely ageing myself. Have a dip in the pool for me.
Larry, T is so right that you are lucky to have a nurse in your family. I have had two hernia's in my life and they are not fun. By all means listen to your doctor but more importantly, listen to your wife. As you can read, Mrs. G has me very well trained!
Hope everyone has a good...and healthy rest of the week!

Happy to hear that you are being monitored and well cared for, Larry.
We had warm days right up to Halloween. Halloween turned out to be cold and very windy. We still had 75+ kids at daughter's house. LOL, a "down" year. Usually, more like 100 kids.
