As a professional TV watcher (OK maybe not professional but I watch a lot of TV!) I thought I would give some thoughts about the new shows I've seen.
Matlock - I am convinced that this is the best new show this fall. I've always liked Kathy Bates. She plays an old lawyer who's been out of practice for 30+ years but is now trying to get a job with a prestigious firm. I was immediately interested in her journey, but the episode took several twists and turns that I was not expecting! Beau Bridges & Jason Ritter are supporting players.
High Potential - Didn't think I would like this one but I was wrong. Kaitlyn Olson stars as a police precinct janitor who looks at a murder board and being very observant makes a change to the board. The next day everyone is up in arms, but they are intrigued by her observations and explanations. Daniel Sunjata is the detective who is directed to let her tag along. I've liked him in other series. Yes it's Castle-like, but better than I expected and worth checking out.
Brilliant Minds - Zachary Quinto plays doctor Oliver Wolf who really wants to understand what his patients are going thru. This is actually based on a real guy. Wolf has quite a few issues of his own which seems to be part of the reason he wants to understand other people who don't quite appear normal. He's gay. He has face blindness, but he seems to never have any trouble recognizing anyone except the one doctor he keeps butting heads with. I've watched 2 or 3 episodes and will likely continue on but the ailments and the way he fixes them leave me scratching my head.
Rescue: Hi Surf - A bunch of hot lifeguards saving surfers. There are 2 women who are smarter, faster, and stronger than all the other men. Everyone has a complicated back story. We didn't make it past 1 episode.
Doctor Odyssey - Joshua Jackson plays a highly respected doctor who for some reason has decided to become a cruise doctor where presumably he will be treating sunburns and seasickness. Of course, in the 1st episode there are 4 or 5 major medical emergencies. More hot young people who likely will be sleeping around a lot. Don Johnson plays the Captain. Jury is still out. We plan to watch another episode, but weren't too impressed with the 1st one.
NCIS: Origins - This is about Gibbs first getting into NIS (which later becomes NCIS). We all know his story but I thought it could be interesting. The pilot is 2 hours long. So far I made it through an hour. The guy playing Gibbs in no way resembles Mark Harmon or acts anything like him. I will watch the 2nd hour but don't have a lot of hope.
Murder in a Small Town - There's a new police chief in the small idyllic town. He quickly has a murder case to work while he is also trying to start a new relationship with the town librarian. I've only seen 1 episode but I enjoyed it and will watch more. I know Stana is supposed to be in it but no sign of her yet.
