I thought I'd start a thread for anyone who wanted to share their thoughts on the Olympic games. I just got to watch the opening ceremonies. France did a spectacular job. Having the athletes on boats along the Seine river was unique. The light show on the Eiffel tower was magnificent, and it was lovely to hear Celine Dion sing at the end. However, I do wish NBC had done a better job at explaining much of the symbolism we were seeing. Much of it had to do with Olympic/Greek history and French history. I caught some of it but was hoping for more in depth explanations. Instead, Kelly Clarkson just kept saying how cool everything was, which I found disappointing. But I really enjoyed the show and the overall Olympic theme of bringing humanity together. Since I have a Peacock subscription, it's easy to catch up on what I've missed, so I'm on to watch some of the swimming and gymnastics competitions. Feel free to post here and let us know if you're watching and what you think.

We enjoy watching the Olympics. We thought the opening ceremony was awesome. France really thought "outside the box." We tape it so we can skip the commercials. LOL, it is more fun that way

Stopping by my favorite movie theater today to get their giant bag of popcorn to eat while watching the Olympics. Watched ping pong and archery this morning. Fin to catch some of the more unusual sports.

I've seen a lot of people on social media bashing the opening ceremonies including having the athletes on boats. Personally I enjoyed the boat parade. Might have been better without the rain. Kelly Clarkson & Peyton Manning were terrible and totally unprepared. I agree it would have been nice to have some explanation about the various vignettes. I've seen better opening ceremonies but the Eiffel Tower light show was amazing as well as Celine Dion's incredible performance. I didn't notice it myself but read that the Notre Dame bells rang for the 1st time since the 2019 fire. Of course, lighting up the hot air balloon instead of a cauldron was very unique!
In swimming, Rowdy has mentioned several times that they were swimming under world record times and he is surprised by that. Is there a way that the Paris pool could be slower? I can't figure out how but I don't know.
I'm excited to see what Simone can do. I hope her leg injury won't hurt her performance.
I liked Cook n Bacon winning the synchronized diving! LOL

I definitely jinxed myself bragging about my decent weather. This week it's in the mid to high 90s with heat indices 105 to 110. I could hardly put one foot in front of the other after my golf match today and could basically wring out my clothes!
Yesterday a big storm came thru in late afternoon. It looked like monsoon rains with wind gusts up to 80 mph and a tornado a couple of miles away. Today another monsoon came thru in late afternoon. No damage with today's storm. We didn't have damage yesterday either, but there was a lot in the county and counties around us. We can use the rain but don't like tornados or high winds.

They were saying that the pool was not as deep as most competition pools. I heard that that was the reason many records were not set.
