Happy New Year! I hope everyone's new year is starting off well, no matter what that means for you. ibmjas, I love your picture of the stag in your yard on the December 25 weekly post. He certainly seems like a sign of good things to come to me. For New Year's Eve, we partied hard...in our pajamas with take-out Chinese and a movie. However, we got something different from our standard order (there's was much discussion about this). And we watched The Abyss (1989). I loved that movie when it came out, and have an old VHS copy of it somewhere, but haven't been able to find it streaming anywhere. Well, my husband tracked it down for me for Christmas and it was fun to see it again after so many years. Our neighbors set off fireworks at midnight, which made our dog crazy. We actually took her outside so she could see what was making all the noise. Thankfully, that helped. Today, we're visiting with my sister and niece one more time before they leave. More on that later. So, please check in and let us know how your holidays have been. We can't wait to hear.

I loved the Abyss also when it came out. My cats and I had a quiet New Year's. When the loud fireworks began Allegro and Presto sought my out for comfort. Cat's don't freak out as much as dogs but they do notice. I did a year one NCIS marathon. I'm glad the characters changed over the years. Ducky was over the top with his constant history stories. Tony was a jerk. I can see why Kate left the series after one season. Time to put away my new tree and the nutcrackers who were out this year. I hope this is a good year for our troubled world. We need good people to step up and help make the world a better place.

My son was here for almost a week which was wonderful. Unfortunately he had to work most days but it was great to have him here. My daughter and I met to go on a 1st day hike at a nearby state park. The turnout was over 200. It was a bit too hilly for me, but I took my time and it felt good to start the new year with some exercise. I like the Abyss also. I just read recently that Ed Harris almost died making the movie. Some how he got in trouble while under water and for some reason the safety diver wasn't able to get to him immediately. It seemed like it would be a miserable movie to make.
We also watch NCIS all the time. There are reruns on several channels. My favorite cast included Ziva. I could never warm up to Bishop. We're still watching it even without Gibbs. I thought the series would never survive Harmon leaving. Now I'm hearing that Tony may return this season. I don't know if that means 1 or 2 episodes or if he's really coming back. I also read that McCallum's children will appear in the episode that honors Ducky.
Hope everyone's year gets off to a good start.

Our pool algae problem was cleared up and the water leak in the front yard was fixed. The pool pump died and that in turn fried the timer box. We're getting now ones today. I'm hoping this is the last of things going wrong.
We had the kids here for a New Year's dinner. We had ham, green beans, baked potatoes, and blueberry cobbler for dessert. Today is back to work for all of them. Our older daughter's maternity leave ended today, so she'll have to juggle work with caring for a newborn. That's not a job I envy.
Wishing everyone here a happy and healthy new year.
