I can't believe it's Thanksgiving week already! Christmas will be here before we know it. I always think I'm going to get things done early, but it never quite happens. tycho657, your adoption event was an amazing success! I'm so happy for everyone involved, especially the pets who found new homes. I'm sure there will be a match for that Bearded Dragon some time soon. My daughter's middle school play with this weekend. She was the Stage Crew Manager. The kids did such a wonderful job and stood late after school for weeks to pull it off. I even got a shoutout in the Playbill as my daughter thanked her "mom and puppy" for coming to pick her up every day. I finally got everything but the rose bushes pulled out of the front yard flower beds and put down landscaping fabric. Now we just need to pick out the river rock we plan to put down there. So, do you have plans this week? We'll be headed to my Mom's for Thanksgiving dinner. We may even be taking the dog with us, which should be an adventure. Chime in and let us know what's up with you.

Today was "Turkey Tuesday" in Arizona. Many years ago Eddie Basha, who owned the Bashas Grocery stores here in Arizona, started "Turkey Tuesday. They take turkey donations at all of their a stores and give them to St Vince. St Vincent dePaul gives out Thanksgiving meals to needy families. The St Vince at my church gives out food to about 60 families at Thanksgiving. The boxes have a turkey, potatoes, carrots, onions that are fresh plus various can food like veggies, soup, fruit, spaghetti sauce & spaghetti, rice, dry beans, cereal and other various things depending on what we hand enough of in our pantry. We do this for Thanksgiving, Christmas & Easter. I am feeling it in my back as I was lifting too much the last 2 days... I have a nice small turkey breast fir the cats and I to have for Thanksgiving. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

This year has flown by and Thanksgiving really snuck up on me, but this year we are postponing it until Saturday so more people can make it. That gives me a little more time. Hope everyone has a great, relaxing Thanksgiving.

I hope those who celebrate had a good Thanksgiving. We're having our dinner this Sunday. Our older daughter went to her in-laws. Our younger daughter and husband met us at our favorite Chinese buffet. There was even some sliced turkey! It was busy as so many restaurants were closed.
A storm front will be moving through our area this weekend. We may even get some rain. It's been in the upper 60s during the day and in the low 50s overnight. It feels more like the holidays for me with this kind of weather. A few of our neighbors have already put up their Christmas lights and other decorations.
A week from today (Dec 1st) my husband will finally be getting his new pacemaker. He's been wearing a heart vest the last 2 plus months and is more than ready to get rid of it. Luckily his heart isn't so bad that the vest would zap him. The new pacemaker will have a defib wire. Unbelievably the procedure is done as an out patient. There is a possibility he could be admitted for overnight observation. We're hoping that won't be necessary.

Drvrtrnr, My brother had to get a pacemaker/defibrillator over 10 years ago. It looked about the size of a deck of cards. You could easily see it thru his skin. He said it felt like a big plastic name tag they implanted. Now I think they are more the size of a pocket watch, which is maybe easier to implant & maybe recovery is easier. I hope so anyway. Good luck with the surgery.

After my heart attacked me, for the measly reason of 5 french creme horns for lunch and two philly cheese steak sandwiches for dinner, it took another year before they decided I needed the defribulator/pacemaker. The only complicated part is the wires to the heart, after that, every 10 years or so they replace the unit. Mine was replaced in 2019 and the doctor and I spoke about different restaurants we liked while he performed the surgery. The only problem I ever had with one is that it ruined my golf swing with the leads hitting my shoulder when I played. Otherwise, as Mrs. G will tell you, it actually gives you peace of mind knowing it is there.

larryholmes, ibmjas, and RG: Thank you for the kind words. My husband's current pacemaker surgery was in December of 2017. It isn't failing him and he's never had a heart attack. His heart has weakened over the years and is at 30%. The doctor said he'll probably have to make the pocket bigger to accommodate the new one. He's not a golfer so this shouldn't be a problem, lol. Here's hoping the surgery goes well.

My husband's pacemaker surgery went well. There was a cancellation so they started an hour earlier. We had to stay 3 hours after the procedure to make sure everything was working properly and X-ray results showing things were done correctly. One of our sons-in-law noticed immediately that my husband's color was already better. Luckily he's not in pain and seems to be ok. We're all glad it's over.

Now don't put him back in the hospital by giving him a large honey do list!

We really didn't do Thanksgiving this year. My grandson's family birthday party was the next day so everyone was gathering there and I had 2 cakes to make for the affair, so I baked all of Thanksgiving day.
I'm trying to get my shopping done for the grandkids now, as I sure don't want things delayed because of shipping time. Cards are next on my agenda, then getting the tree up and decorated. Last year we never got a tree and it was tough for me. First time in my life I didn't have a Christmas tree, but we both had covid and we had a boatload of snow and brutal temps so it just wasn't in the cards. I'm anxious to make things right this year!
And, of course, I'm delighting in watching this year's Hallmark Christmas movies! They've definitely been stepping up their game with a wide variety of story lines and characters. They've also put a strong focus on other cultures and have done more filming on location in other countries. I loved "A Merry Scottish Christmas" and "My Norwegian Holiday." My husband's family has strong Norwegian roots and my mother-in-law and I traveled through Norway for 2 weeks together. It was delightful to see so many places we'd actually been, and the other fun connection, is that the female lead character comes from Minneapolis and, again, Hallmark got everything right! However, my favorite movie so far has been "Checkin It Twice." It's funny and poignant at the same time and stars my favorite Hallmark Hunk - Kevin McGarry!
I'd love to know if anyone else is enjoying the Hallmark movies!

NF1, I have to agree that the Hallmark movies are stepping up their game - at least in some of the movies. I noticed last year there were a couple that stood out and several this year. I've caught a lot of the new ones but missed the Norwegian one. Hopefully I'll catch it later. One of my favorites was 5 Star Christmas. A dad turns the family home into a B&B without telling any of the family. They are shocked when they show up for Christmas. He has no guests and there is a famous reviewer coming to stay there so the whole family acts like they are guests so they can get a good review.

I am finally catching up with everyone’s posts. Glad the surgery went well. I hope Christmas is a good one with that out of the way so life can improve for him. I need to watch some of the Hallmark movies. There sure isn’t much to watch on TV anymore. Nathanfan1 I bought a new little 4ft pre-lit tree this year from Costco. My cats seem to be ok with it and after checking it out they have left it alone. I have it up on an end table so it’s not as available for them to walk around. My concern about putting up my old 7ft tree was that they would chew on the lights and fry themselves. I gave that one away last year to a family in the neighborhood. I love having a tree again.
