What do you wish you had seen on Castle?

I'm developing something for work and thought you might be able to help me out.

What do you wish had happened on Castle but never did?

I was always waiting for Rick to find out that Kate had broken up with Demming before he left for the Hamptons, but that never happened.

It could be a storyline, a character arc, pretty much anything.

Christine, the thing you wanted to see is a good one. I wish they would've given us a proper wedding. What they did was so unsatisfying! Conflict and problems don't end just because a couple says "I do." What a wasted opportunity.

I would of liked to see some of the older characters come back Jordan Shaw for one, in the 8th season she could helped Beckett through that complete nonsense of a season. I agree a grand wedding would of been nice I think everyone that watched that show was disappointed, and deserved to see some happiness.

A real relationship. Their entire relationship turned into a joke. Every kiss had to be interrupted. The beautiful wedding was ripped away from us. Castle was always romantic and thoughtful until he got the girl of his dreams then he suddenly became clueless and started acting ridiculous about gifts or ideas for their wedding. Kate never seemed to be really into the relationship. Any little thing would make her have doubts about Castle. 

A storyline I explored was what happened after Castle found out Kate lied about not remembering that he said he loved her and how she finally realized that he knew. That storyline could have gone a lot of different ways.

I had such hope that after their series was over we would get some made for tv movies with Castles solving a mystery. That hope died with the crazy failed wedding. Such hope died that night….

With Castle there are so many times that the train went off the rails, as mentioned is the Demming arc, then there’s the Wedding, Kate being previously married despite the ‘one and done’ from the first season, as well as the whole murdered parent arc that in the end of season one seemed to be a precursor to the Demming ending of season two. Little by little over the course of the first six seasons the show lost its HOPE.

Because that is what the show had in abundance in the beginning, HOPE. Hope for Kate and Rick to get together, hope for her to get peace for her mother’s murder, etc. We watched every week in the HOPE that things would get better between the two, and we were given a few crumbs before it was all taken away again at the end of the season.

I think the slow change for the worse in the main characters is what I would change. Rick Castle in season one was brash but brilliant. Kate Beckett was tenacious and by the book but with a spirit that drew Castle in. These were lost as the series progressed where Castle became a milquetoast with Kate, and Kate a one year booty call for Josh.

One other thing I would change if I could would be the murder of her mother arc. Over the seasons it became so convoluted, so contrived that after a while it was actually taking away from the show rather than add to it. It allowed Stana to show her acting range in several episodes, but it was really dragged out far too long. Just a few of my thoughts.

I am so with you. It feels to me that Castle went downhill rapidly after they failed to give us diehard fans the wedding we thought we would get at the end of S6. We had watched those 6 seasons through thick and thin and they blew it. The show was a train wreck after S6 in my opinion. JMO

Also, I'd like to have more of Jim Beckett...even though I don't know how they would have woven it into the 'scrambled mess' that crept in and then took over.
