Sorry for the late post. I'm afraid I lost track of my days, with this being the Memorial Day holiday. Did anyone do anything special for the holiday weekend?
We have a memorial event where they read all the names of the fallen heroes from our town and which wars they fought in. It's held at the John Basilone Memorial statue. He was a Gunnery Sergeant awarded the Medal of Honor in recognition of his outstanding heroism at Guadalcanal. Later, during the Iwo Jima campaign, he was killed in action on D-Day. We have a parade in his honor every fall, and it's a pretty big deal, which is likely why we don't have a parade for this holiday.
Today, my husband and I took down the old shed out back. It was about 10x10, rusted metal, and about 20 years old. Between the rust and the paint, some of the bolts would not budge, so we had to take a sawzall to it. It took far longer than we had hoped, but at least it's down. Now we have to figure out whether we're going to try to transport all of the jagged metal pieces to the recycling center or pay someone to haul it away. Wish us luck!
So, check-in and let us know how your week is going...

We went to the Winchester National Cemetery for their wonderful annual remembrance ceremony. Winchester changed hand many times during Civil War. Since uniforms were often not distinctive, the Union and Confederate dead graves are marked as 'Unknown' - name and affiliation known only to God. I previously went to Vietnam Wall at midnight every year before we moved. Two very close high school classmates and friends [both pilots] have their names on the Wall. Jeff is still MIA. My mother always visited Jeff's mother on Memorial Day. Jeff's mother always commented how crushing it was to not even be able to have him back for a proper funeral. She and my mother became close friends when Jeff and I were competitors as backstrokes on the high school swim team. We must never forget the price so many and their loved ones paid and continue to pay.

I am on day 3 of my RV trek from Arizona to Maryland. I have a friend going to Indiana to see her Dad who is driving behind my RV and spending the night in my RV. Nice having company for half the trip. I hope to arrive by Monday. Looking forward to seeing my family.

I always marvel at how busy we stay after 15 years of retirement and being in our late 70's. Our trip to MI on the ferry and stops in Holland and Grand Rapids was great. The Meijers Gardens were awesome and we wish we could of stayed there longer! Now it is soccer and baseball season for the twins. Their last day of school was this past Friday.
