Well, we are halfway through the first month of 2023, and I have some personal news to share. Just before Christmas, my mom was diagnosed with uterine cancer. She hadn't wanted to share it with anyone until she saw her oncologist and devised a plan. But since that's happened and she's now telling people, I thought it was okay for me to share it here, especially since I know some of you have experience with this. The bad news is, it's cancer. The good news is that it was caught early, and the prognosis looks good. She'll have surgery at the end of this month to remove her uterus and test the surrounding tissue and lymph nodes. What happens after that depends upon what they find. The surgery will take place at Sloan Kettering, one of the best cancer hospitals in the country. My mother and step-father were both very impressed with the doctor, staff, and facilities. They seem calmer since that appointment, but we'll all be holding our breath until we get those test results back. So, 2022 was a pretty stressful year from one end to the other as it began with my dad dying of a sudden heart attack and ended with my mom being diagnosed with cancer! Although I'm optimistic about her prognosis, I'll still take whatever prayers, thoughts, and overall good vibes you're willing to send our way. I know that's a lot of info to start off our weekly thread, but please don't hesitate to check in with whatever is going in in your life. I always look forward to hearing how everyone is doing no matter how big or small the news.

I'm sorry to hear about your mom. The best news is that they caught it early. My sister had uterine cancer more than 20 years ago. She had the surgery followed by at least 8 weeks of radiation treatments. After completing the treatments, she saw the doctor every few months for the first couple of years. Then it went to every 6 months for a couple more years and then yearly until she was released from the oncologist's care. She was in her middle 50s at that time. Being her younger sister, I was concerned about my chances for developing it, too. I was told that because I had been on birth control pills for several years and had had children, my chances of getting it were greatly reduced. So far that has been true.
I'll be thinking about you and your family and hoping for the best outcome.

Prayers for your Mom and your family as you deal with this. Cancer scares the hell out of all of us. Her prognosis is good and she has some of the best folks caring for her. Early diagnosis is always a good sign. Rikki's was caught early all 3 times and she is living a full life. We have the same hopes for your Mom.
God Bless, Christine.

PTVJ you have really been thru a lot. Sloan-Kettering is an excellent facility and I'm sure your mother will have the best of care. You have my best thoughts and prayers. Hope this year is filled with lots of good things to make up for the last couple of years.

Thanks for all the well wishes, everyone. I truly appreciate it. Do you mean everyone doesn't have this much chaos thrown at them? I'm hoping this year gets a lot more boring as it goes on.
At the beginning of the week, my daughter had her best friend sleep over. It was the first sleepover in her new room, so it was a highlight.
And I can't believe it's already Friday! Where did this week go?

Thursday an active shooter invaded our community. Disgruntled ex-employee decided to shoot someone at Walmart, engaged with police in a shootout thruout the store before he was shot and killed. I had just been to that Walmart the day before. Anymore you never know what minor decision could put you in harm's way. Fortunately only 1 other person was shot.

Grateful you were no where near this when it happened. Unfortunately, it seems to be the world we now live in. I know that whenever I'm in a store or a theater, I'm always very aware of where the exits are and how quickly I can get to them. I can't even let myself think about schools or else it will drive me insane.
