Hi All, Well, the renovations continue, and with everything we find that might save us money, there's something that means we'll be spending more, making it feel like I'm holding my breath on the final total. We didn't expect to find hardwood floors, so having them refinished will likely be half the cost of the vinyl plank flooring we were expecting to put down. But the spindles on our staircase were so old and repaired so many times in the past that they need to be replaced. There are a LOT of spindles. Also, the electrician we used for our bathroom just retired. His rates were quite reasonable so finding someone new will likely cost more, and many of the electrical outlets need to be replaced. I'm trying to resign myself to the highs and lows of this process and just hope it will all work out for the best in the end. I'm sure I'll feel more positive when I can finally sleep in a bed once again instead of on the sofa, but that's likely to be two to three weeks away. So, let me know how things are going where you are. Check-in and keep in touch.

I believe that you have the proper attitude for all this. It can be so frustrating when 'surprises' occur. It always surprises me when I hear, 'Oh, by the way...'.

Renovating is still a lot less expensive than build a new home. And you can do sections at a time. It will be a challenge to live around the renovations. I love the fall weather. Nice to be able to open doors and turn off the AC. I do need to pull weeds after all of the rain the last couple of months.
I am so looking forward to my trip to see my kiddos in the east again. I just hope I can stay covid free as they have not had vaccinations.

Well, the wood floor in the hallway isn't salvageable. Like on the staircase, underneath the 30+ year old carpeting was 50+ year old linoleum which was glued to the wood. We're going to sand and paint the stairs and then put a carpet runner on them. Now I have to figure out what we do with the hallway floor.
On the upside, the weather has been lovely in the 60s to almost 70 today. I wish it would stay this way until Christmas!

Wow...you certainly did not need disruption of your plan. Nevertheless, it is likely to make the whole project more successful with the best results.

Your home will be so nice when your renovations are complete. That, certainly is something to look forward to PTVJ Our week has been interesting. On Monday, I had a colonoscopy. The results were excellent. LOL, I was informed that I have now "graduated" and will not have to have another one. At my age if you have 2 in a row with no polyps and everything looks healthy you do not have to get another colonoscopy. Yay for me We are both due for our annual physicals in the next couple of weeks so are keeping our fingers crossed that all is still okay. Our brain class is awesome and we are learning a lot. We did our shopping Tuesday. Have chores for the rest of the week. On Saturday, we will take my motorcycle in for winter storage. Our Fall colors have been beautiful this year. Our weather has been decent and temps are expected to be in the 50's and 60's for another week. That's great as I can continue to walk outside for another week and not have to use the treadmill. A good and happy week to all!!!
