Hi All,
I wanted to get this thread started, but I've got to run. I just trapped two six-week-old kittens in my yard, and I'm trying to get their mom so we can get her fixed.
We're running some errands later today and hopefully taking advantage of some Labor day sales.
What are you up to this week?

We're still waiting to get scheduled for the demo and rebuild of our ramada. The turbines on the roof were repaired last week. I figured out how to post a picture that's on the computer, but it said the file is too big. Now I'm at a loss again, lol.
We're having a quiet holiday staying inside as it's close to 110--sunny and dry. My husband has his regular check up with his cardiologist tomorrow. Other than that, nothing else is planned for the week. Stay safe and cool everyone.

I hope you can catch the Mom Cat. 6 week old kittens should be able to eat on their own if their teeth are in. try canned food. I hope you can get one of the traps that will pop down when they go inside. Put some nice smelly canned food to draw her in. Good luck. My pool is calling me on these 110 days. I will get my glass of wine and my kindle white paper and do some reading. I need to start to do some maintenance on my RV. Refill water in my batteries, move the RV so the tires don't get messed up, sanitize my water tank, wash the outside and windshield. I might just wait until the temps go down a bit. It sits in the shade but it's still hot.

Fishing was amazing! We averaged 115 walleyes each day. There were not many 'dinks' below the 18-21 inch 'must release immediately' prime breeding size zone. We caught several 25 to 25 1/2 inchers each day. We only caught eight smallmouth bass. That is unusual; however, it has been strangely hot weather. Sioux Lookout claims that they had 12 feet of snow last Winter. The lakes had been very low for some time...dramatically lower last year. Lakes were reported to be 10 1/2 feet higher this year! Most camps and lodges had the docks damaged if not destroyed. We have never seen the lakes this high in all the years we have been there. You would not believe how much yard work Dawn did while I was away. She must have been out there four to six hours each day it did not rain too much. It has suddenly been raining 1 to 1 1/2 inch daily for several days with a three inch day too. I am sure that I know what I will be doing once this rainy period ends.

Well, the two kittens are doing well. Since they're eating on their own, a local shelter is willing to take them. However, the mom is being stubborn. She won't go into the trap. All of the cats have become trap-savvy, which is frustrating for me. I'll try some different foods and hope she comes around.
Today was the first day of 7th grade. Other than the bus being 30 minutes late, it sounds like everything else went okay.
And it has certainly cooled off here. The high was only about 80 degrees today.

My friends from California were here for the month of August and I'm now trying to get back to my more "sedate" lifestyle and go through my paperwork pile. We crammed a lot of activities and visits to friends/relatives in, hit as many local brew pubs as we could . We are all bird watchers so the three of us spent a lot of time on the porch with our binoculars, checking our bird apps, using the sound recording part of the app to identify birds that were singing and trying to locate them. And I bought a new kayak so we could all go kayaking! My old kayak is in great shape and will probably last for eons but it weighs 55 pounds and is 11'6" long -- and I haven't been kayaking in years because I don't have a way to transport it. I did some research and bought one that's 36 pounds and only 10' long and was relatively inexpensive...it's awkward for me to carry it but I can drag it if need be and, more importantly, get it into my car (crossover SUV) with just a bit of it hanging out the back. There is a nice quiet river about 10 minutes from me with a sandy beach landing. With my bad knees, it's a bit of a challenge getting into the kayak but I manage, getting out is still a work in progress!!!!!!! But once I'm on the water, it's heaven!!!! just gently paddling and drifting, looking at the birds and plants.....I hope to get in at least a few more trips.
The weather has thankfully cooled down here and we actually got 2" of rain this week (thankfully not the 6-10" amounts that southern Mass, RI and CT got which definitely caused problems)....locally we are in moderate-severe drought category, luckily I have a deep well and excellent water supply.
Looks like I'll be needing to mow my crabgrass lawn tomorrow.....at first I thought the crabgrass was nice because it kept the lawn looking nice and green the past few weeks, HOWEVER, since the rain it has grown at least 3 inches higher I think!!!!!

Welcome back, Fjordmom. I'm glad to hear you had such a nice visit with friends. I feel your pain with the crabgrass. We had no rain for most of August. Now that it's begun to rain again, the grass is still dead, but the weeds are growing like mad! It rained all day yesterday, and I didn't have the time for yard work today. Perhaps I'll get to it this weekend. I just hate that my yard looks like such a mess. I didn't know you were into kayaking. My Dad was an avid kayaker. I now have two of them in my basement. At some point, I'll have to sell them or give them away, but with so much else to do, I really haven't had the chance to think about it. I've never been a bird watcher. Actually, the only birds I watch these days are the ones that swoop down to get water from the large bowl I've placed in my backyard this summer. I've had the neighborhood cats and squirrels partake of it often. The only birds I've seen drink from it are the bluejays. They're the gutsy ones. They take a drink and fly back up onto the tree branch to look around for any approaching cats. If they're convinced the coast is clear, they fly back down for more water. It's something to watch.

Speaking of bird watching, we always have humming birds at the feeders and I love to watch them, but lately we've had turkeys!. We have a big backyard with woods all around it. We've had 2 different families of turkeys roaming thru the backyard for the last month. I had never seen baby turkeys before! It's been fun watching them grow up. Drvrtrnr - congrats on figuring out how to attach a picture. You can easily resize pics using www.shrinkpictures.com/. Click on the Resize option. It's pretty self explanatory. Here's a vacation picture I resized to 600 pxl. The reader can click on the image to make it bigger if desired.

Fjordmom glad you are kayaking again. I have a sturdy inflatable that is only 26lbs.I can put it in the back of my Honda CRV. Saw many birds on my weekly walk at the Riparian Preserve near my house. I need to figure out how to post a picture...

ibmjas, again, thank you for helping. That site was easy to use, except for one problem. It said the file I uploaded was larger than they can process. This whole thing is turning into groundhog day, lol. I guess I wasn't meant to post pictures.
larryholmes, I'm glad your fishing trip was a great success. It's a good way to forget about things happening in the real world.
Christine, speaking of weeds, our back yard was like a weed fest. It's been too hot for mu husband to do the whacking, so our daughter and boyfriend came over yesterday after work and did it for us. They raked and bagged everything then sprayed. We shouldn't have any weeds for a while. They were nicely compensated for their work.
