Hi All, Thanks for the well-wishes after my husband’s trip to the ER. The worst seems to be over. Fingers crossed! geezer2008, I’m headed to the dentist myself next week and I’m pretty sure I’m going to need a new crown. I had one about 5 years ago and I think it was about $900. We’ll see what it costs now. My daughter and I have been binge-watching Downton Abbey. We’re midway through the final season. We’re hoping to finish it this week so we can still catch the current movie in theaters next week. This weekend, I got to work with my mini-chainsaw. I took out another dead bush from the front yard and then took out more overgrown ivy from the backyard. Some of the ivy stems were about two inches thick! It’s crazy how much damage the ivy has done to the fence and the shed, but we’re hoping to replace both sometime this summer. Now it’s your turn. Check in and let us know what’s up where you are…

Dawn has become a master with the mini chainsaw. We have several spare batteries too and almost always have one recharging. They run-down quickly and have a long recharge cycle. I am the golf-club style weed scythe guy. I get sent off into the deepest stuff for rough cut and Dawn follows with the battery powered weed-wacker. That is a really handy tool also.

I have a question for the garden masters on this board. Is there a weed killer that doesn't also kill your lawn and is pet safe?
My lawn is suddenly being overrun by crabgrass and dandelions and I'd like to get rid of them. But we also have several outdoor cats in my neighborhood who love to hang out in my yard. They literally roll around on my lawn, so I'd prefer not to put down anything that would hurt them.
I have Green Gobbler weed killer, which is vinegar-based but only good for using in specific spots as it will also kill any grass it comes in contact with. It seems like I need something I can spread across the lawn but nothing I find appears safe for pets.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks.

You and Kate will really enjoy the Downton Abbey movie. The first movie was very good also. We saw Top Gun last Friday. It was awesome. Rikki really liked it too which kinda surprised me. Jurassic Park this Friday. Rikki loved all the JP movies. LOL, I am sure that we will be seeing it more than once!!

I'm interested in the mini chainsaw discussion. Years ago I bought a corded mini-chainsaw on a pole. It was awesome! Unfortunately, we have a HUGE yard and 2 extremely long outdoor extension cords can't get to the back. I might look into getting a battery operated one. There is a small 5" diameter tree that has fallen in back that I need to cut up and I just noticed some huge vine has built itself a bridge to cross from a large tree to my dogwood tree. It's a 10' span that it crossed! I tried cutting the bridge but there were 3 of them so I couldn't reach them all. Then I started looking around and noticed in the woods that surrounds my house there are lots of vines (stems) that are 1.5" thick. They loop all around and look like they are dead (they look like they belong in a haunted movie) but now I realize they go up to the top of the trees where they leaf out and spread from tree to tree. I cut a couple of those thick stems so now those vines are dying on my dogwood. I went back a couple of days later and there is liquid just steadily dripping out of the cut stem. From the internet it looks like a wild grapevine. I'm not going to wade thru the poison ivy to cut all the other ones I see. I'll wait till everything dies out in the winter to attack them.

Ate my 1st tomato today from my tomato plant. There are 6 more comjng and it still has blossoms coming. I'm hoping for fresh tomatoes 🍅 for the summer. The pool should be ready for morning swimming this week as they say we will get 110 this week. I was too late planting the rest of my garden. I will try again in Sept for the fall season. I have tickets for Top Gun tomorrow. I will probably wear a mask as I have heard of 6 people I know that have gotten covid in the last week. Darn it is spiking again.

Hi, We have our primary tree work done by Bartlett...superb service in our area. We gave up on the long extension cords as just too much trouble. Your vines sound like kudzu - spreads like crazy! I spent hours hand-sawing then pulling down that stuff out of the trees at the back of our home. I cut it off at ground level then trimmed off as high up as I could get with a pole tree trimmer. It was tiresome but very successful. I check that area several times each year and attack anything growing. That has been very successful. Be careful of poison ivy which grows in the same sort of area...trust me it is likely in that area too! For yard weeds, when we moved here things were pretty bad...especially from dandelions everywhere! We have our yard treated twice a year...always keep our dogs in for at least two hours and never had any problems. We are very careful about all sprays because there are many deer roaming around. There is a wet-land area several blocks away; and, they come up here looking for tasty plants to eat. Even though we like the deer, we spray deer and rabbit stuff [from Lowe's] on many of the plants because they will eat them. The stuff is not harmful to pets or pests. Apparently there is odor-causing material that deer and rabbits do not like [or, maybe scares them as being from some predator]. I spray about every ten days to two weeks and have found it very effective. Dawn knew what to buy...my job is application!

It's definitely not kudzu. Kudzu would probably have covered the entire woods by now. The leaves match wild grape leaves perfectly. I really didn't think kudzu had made it this far north but an internet search shows it has. I'll have to keep working at it to get it under control and try to get the dead vines out of my dogwood.

Top Gun was awesome. I loved that they used real footage of the planes and not a lot of CGI for the movie. Really gave you the feel of being in the planes. I did wear a mask. I was the only person that I saw wearing a mask. I picked my seat and I did not have anyone next to me in the theater. I also picked a show with only 25% full. It wasn't the theater with the Dolby sound but that is ok as that is usually too loud for my sensitive ears. My pool is finally warm enough for me to start my morning swims. Yeah!!
