Hi Folks, I can't believe May is half over already! Where does the time go? We're now getting close to summer weather here in NJ. It's in the 70s most days. Yesterday it was in the 80s, and this coming Saturday it is supposed to get close to 90! We're going to have to put the air conditioner in the bedroom window soon. I can deal with the heat most of the day, but I tend to need the AC to sleep at night when it gets this warm. Last week I planted lavender petunias along the sidewall, along with my two yellow rose bushes. No roses yet but the petunias look great. And our little dogwood tree has finally produced flowers. It was planted in the front yard two or three years ago and this is the first time we've seen the pink flowers emerge. Thankfully, they'll be starting to rebuild our front porch this week. I can't wait to get that done. Then I'll pull out the old bushes, clean up the space, and replant. I also plan to get new rocking chairs as the ones we have are old, wood, and not in great shape. This morning I got to interview two of the executive producers for The Conners. If you watch, this week is the season finale and it did get renewed for season 5. We spoke over zoom and it was great to get their take on where the show has been and where it's going. Okay, now it's your turn. How is your week looking so far? Check in and let us know.

Last Wednesday I golfed. Almost overnight the temps went from mid 60s to 96° with high humidity and little breeze. I was guzzling water and gatorade but still felt like I was on the verge of collapse. I started wondering if I'd even be able to golf this year. Since then it's been in the mid to high 80s but not as high humidity and I've been fine so i think my body just hadn't had the chance to adjust. So far we haven't had to turn the air on but that probably won't last too much longer.

I'm at about 7,000 ft camping. Lyman Lake is very low. It is the 3rd lake that is fed from the reservoir up stream. It's nice to have 80's in the daytime and down to 40's and 50's at night. We sat around the fire last night watching the total eclipse of the moon.It was nice to be able to view it in the evening and not in the middle of the night. There were clouds on the horizon when it came up but it quickly rose above the clouds. This is the only RV trip I have scheduled now until Oct. I have lots of season finals to watch when I get home.

Well, I had an interesting evening. So, we've been setting Have-a-Heart traps to capture all of the outdoor/feral cats in our neighborhood to get them spayed/neutered. We've got the majority of them done but there are a couple that are trap savvy, meaning they either won't go in the traps or they know how to go in, eat the food, and back out, never stepping on the plate that closes the trap.
Anyway, I've been keeping the traps open later in the hopes of getting one of these cats. But tonight, instead of a cat I caught a skunk.
I knew that was a risk. I see skunks in my yard in the late evening but I thought I still had time before they came out. Thankfully, I've dealt with this before when I did animal control and managed the animal shelter. Skunks have very poor eyesight, so if you move, very, very slowly, they don't really see you, or at least not enough to be scared. And there was already a towel covering part of the trap which was a help.
I moved so slowly that I don't even think the skunk knew I was there. He almost seemed confused when he realized the door had opened. Then, instead of running, he just waddled out, turned, and practically brushed my leg and he continued on his way.
But really, my heart was pounding. I'm just relieved I didn't get sprayed!

So today about 10 cop cars converged on a car and arrested a guy that had a federal felony warrant on him. They haven't said his name or what he was wanted for. I'm starting to wonder if we are becoming a criminal hotspot.

I'm Baaaaaaack. We had our carpets cleaned on the morning of May 9th. We then left town for a week to let them dry and to have a nice getaway. With our place totally cleaned and everything gone through, we decided to do a little redecorating. Our new couch came yesterday. My new chair is due in late July and nesting tables in June, I think. We went to Door County, which is a great place to go in Wisconsin. They have a great colony of artists and potters, and anything else you may want. We had our list of things we were looking for and were successful in finding things for our place. It was very enjoyable to come home and install our new "treasures". The only thing I have to do is clean the garage and that is easy. Our summer is now free to enjoy Little Pete has started baseball and has games twice a week. Penny has started soccer practice and games start in July. We will attend most of them. Being us, we have a list of places to go and things to do this summer so plan to be busy. My motorcycle comes out of winter storage tomorrow. It is prepped and ready to go for the summer. Tomorrow night is the band concert for the twins and Friday, we have tickets to see Downton Abbey. We have been looking forward to that since they announced they were making another movie. We have both seen our doctors for semiannual checkups. Numbers were good and we were told we are in good health for oldies. Thank God for that. Rikki has to see cancer docs for checkups soon. Pray they go well too. Her new knee is coming along very well too!! Weather has been up and down here. They had a couple of very hot days last week but this week has been quite mild and closer to normal. Hope you all are having a good week

Hey Geezer! I'm so happy to hear that you and Rikki have finished your big home project. I agree with you that Door County is a fantastic place to shop for artwork and unique decor. We have 3 watercolor prints we got there long ago that are still hanging in our house. Also great news that you're both healthy! I hope this turns out to be a good summer for riding for you. Last summer was brutal!
We FINALLY had some pleasant weather over this past weekend and my oldest daughter and her family came out both Friday and Sunday to hang out with us, play and ride the horses. Her oldest is 17 now and he's busy with a lot of things but seemed very content to just pass the time on the deck and chat. I was so happy that he wanted to spend the time here. Same goes for her 14 year old. He went out on a trail ride with my husband and his mom but also took time to visit with me and catch me up on his end of the year school activities. Her youngest is my best buddy and we've spent countless hours over his 8 years doing nothing but pretending. He's got an incredible imagination! The past 3 years he's been totally into WWII artillery and aircraft. He's quite the expert and can school most adults on the subject, so we often have battles when he brings over all of his tanks and planes. However, Sunday we were out on the deck and we'd been watching the birds at our many feeders. He commented that the red winged blackbirds are bullies at the feeders and then he said he had a great idea. The blackbirds would be the incoming enemy aircraft! So he ran and found a couple of dead branches among the pine trees and they because the anti-aircraft guns. Every time a blackbird would fly by, he'd pretend to shoot it out of the sky. Then I noticed that our two big herd bulls were walking through the pasture up towards the barn so I hollered that 2 enemy tanks were approaching and I pointed to the bulls. He caught on right away and said he'd grab his bazooka! So he hoisted his other stick onto his shoulder and proceeded to take out the 2 tanks. Needless to say, it was an exciting time on the deck! I really treasure family ties like this!
Anyone else watch the This Is Us episode this Tuesday? It was truly a work of art but totally wrecked me emotionally!
