I never liked Josh either...in fact, liked him less than Demming.

I wasn't into Josh on Castle, but now he is a big Hallmark star and I have to admit I usually like him in those roles. I really liked Demming though.

At least Demming was a genuinely nice guy. I could see why Beckett would want to date him. I know Josh was handsome and successful, but he was also an arrogant jerk. That Beckett continued the relationship with Josh for so long brought her down a bit in my mind.
