Okay, so I'm having another one of those "what day is it?" moments because it just struck my at 11:20 pm that today is Monday and I should have posted this thread this morning. So how is the new year going for everyone so far? The last of my visiting family left today so some things will get back to normal but it's going to be a busy month. Our apartment is being renovated later this month and we're moving in with my Mom and step-father until it's finished. That means we have to move everything down to the basement. I'm trying to get as much done as I can on my own because Todd is working so many hours right now. Unfortunately, because I'm still recovering from my surgery, I can only go up and down the stairs so many times before it becomes a problem, and I obviously can't move the bigger pieces on my own. Also, FedEx is scrambling because so many people are out with Covid. There's a shortage of pilots, drivers, and people in the offices, so Todd is still being asked to work extra hours despite the holiday being over. Today, my daughter's school was virtual due to the increase in Covid cases. The rest of the week will be in school but with early dismissal so that the kids won't have lunch in school and won't have to remove their masks. So 2022 is off to an interesting start. How are things where you are? Check-in and let us know.

The HEAVY and quickly developing snowstorms in Virginia, Maryland, and DC did not reach us west of that area. They expected snow but nothing like this volume in such a short time. Two to three inches per hour during what would have been rush hour getting to work in DC-metro area was common. The high ridges along the Shenandoah River kept the storm on the east side. There are people who are/have been trapped for 14-16 hours on north-south Interstate 95. So many vehicles on the road that snow-plows and wreckers were [and still] are not able to get through. Just solid stopped traffic for miles...10-to-20-mile solid blockage in places with most exit ramps blocked too. Apparently, highway patrol officers who were also stuck in the stopped traffic are out walking between vehicles to ensure that everyone is alright. Frustration does not constitute as an emergency. Therefore, we are just staying in our home except for grocery store runs. Already have my fishing license for Canada paid...only 230 days until '2022 Great Canada Fishing Adventure' begins!

Very unusual weather continues here in north central Massachusetts......we thus far this "winter" have only had 1 inch of snow with rain forming a crust...then rain which after freezing temps required cleats to get around safely , freezing rain all day on Christmas which again required cleats and sanding of our driveway, warmer temps in upper 40s and light rain with LOTS of fog New Years' eve and day, now night temps in teens.... Although part of me is not complaining about the lack of snow, I'd rather have soft snow to navigate vs. dealing with ice.
Otherwise all is well.
ProudTVJunkie, glad you had some relaxing time to yourself. Hope your husband gets some relief from his work schedule soon, and don't overdo it with moving things!
larryholmes, look forward to hearing about your adventures!!!! Even if it is 230 days away!

We've only been getting smaller 2-4 inch snowfalls lately but we're headed back into the deep freeze tomorrow with winds of up to 40 mph. We'll be down around -20 the next 2 nights and I don't even want to think about the wind chill. Such is January in the Northland.
I've finally started sewing again. I took about a year off to do several other big projects and now am excited to create some new quilts!
One of our grandsons, who is fully vaccinated, tested positive for covid this past Saturday but only had very miod systems and has already recovered. Thankfully, no one else in their family or Steve and I have gotten it.

Our oldest daughter and her husband tested positive for covid yesterday. Both are fully vaccinated. He started with a sore throat and a stuffy nose Sunday, and is already feeling better. Unfortunately she is sicker. Losing her voice, can't sleep, stuffy nose and all around miserable. Even as a child she didn't handle sickness as well as her younger sister. She really needs a good night's sleep.
We took down the Christmas tree and put the remnants of the holiday away. It seems the holidays came and went fast this time even though we decorated earlier than usual. Now all we have to do is vacuum and dust the hutch where we display the cards. That can wait until tomorrow.
I hope everyone here wears a mask when out in public. We want to go out as little as possible now that omicron has reared its ugly head. Stay safe out there.

Sorry I haven't been around much this week. 2022 is proving to be a heck of a year and it's only day 7.
I had an aunt (my Dad's side of the family) and an uncle (my Mom's side of the family) both die this week. My uncle's death was unexpected. I grew up with him living on the same block but he and my aunt and their grown kids cut off contact with most of the family a few years ago, so trying to get information is difficult. I was planning on heading to the funeral anyway, but now it appears they aren't having one which makes it all the more sad.
Also, I've been swamped with work, a script rewrite deadline, and we have to move everything in our apartment down to the basement for our upcoming renovations. So it's been quite a week. I keep looking forward to this renovation being completed so we can get settled again.
And we do have snow! Not that I like snow, I don't. I hate the cold, but it did mean my daughter got the day off from school which is always nice.
Anyway, here's to hoping that 2022 calms down a bit. I don't think I can put up with this pace for a whole year!
