Thanksgiving week is upon us. This is a week I do lots of volunteering. St Vince does a Thanksgiving food box for about 70 families every year. We do it all on Tuesday. One of the local grocery chains does a "Turkey Tuesday" collection of Turkey's. We usually gather at least 100. We give out the ones needed for Thanksgiving boxes and then store the rest in the freezers for the Christmas boxes in Dec. I spent today cutting material for curtains for kennels at the Human society. They use these for stressed or animals recovering from surgery to give them some space from the world for awhile. The day after Thanksgiving is one of the busiest days at the MIM...Musical Instrument Museum. After a day of eating a nice day walking the galleries is a nice thing for families to do. I like to volunteer and help out that day but will do Sunday this year. Friday is a big clean up on the Salt River, where the wild horses live. There are tons, literally, of beer cans and other trash from the tubers mostly from the summer. NOw that the river is down we can walk out and pick up the trash from the banks. They will get a couple of tons of trash at this clean up. I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving. Most did not get to even gather with family last year.

tycho657, it sounds like you've got quite a busy week planned! I live right along a river here. There's a volunteer group that does clean up about once every three months. It's horrible the amount of trash that ends up in the river. We've had a bit of an odd Thanksgiving tradition for over a decade. We usually take our whole family to our favorite Mexican restaurant in NY state. They have a wooden turkey in the lobby and there are pictures of my daughter with that turkey going back to when she was an infant. Last year we cancelled because of Covid. This year we have to cancel as well, mostly due to my husband's work schedule with his new job. With me recovering from surgery, I'm actually okay that we're just taking the day to stay home and relax. The one thing Kate and I look forward to is making a big breakfast (with huge cups of hot cocoa with marshmallows) and watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Since we'll still get to do that, we're happy. Also, I had the follow-up with my surgeon yesterday. All looks good. They took the bandage off. I'm now using my cane and some of my restrictions get lifted after this weekend (like being able to sleep on my side! Woohoo!) Hope everyone else is having a good week.

Tycho, I really admire all of the ways that you give back. You impact a lot of lives in such a positive manner. Good for you!
PTVJ, so glad to hear you got a good followup with the surgeon! I hope the recovery continues to go smoothly. I know you'll enjoy the peace and quiet of a simple Thanksgiving at home.
I've got 12 coming for Thanksgiving so I've been busy preparing what I can ahead of time. Yesterday I completed a HUGE project in cleaning and reorganizing my sewing room. It feels good to have it back in order and i hope to start in on a few Christmas presents that I'm making very soon.
I hope everyone has a meaningful Thanksgiving, no matter how you celebrate!

I baked 2 pumpkin pies this morning and will make the cranberry jello this afternoon. The bread for dressing has been torn up and is drying out. Tomorrow I'll go to our younger daughter's house to help her cook. Her stove has 2 ovens which makes preparation much easier. There will be just seven of us.

No Thanksgiving plans on my end as those on the north of the 49th parallel celebrate Thanksgiving in October.
Still doing alright. Another round of moisture is falling on the BC coast which is one thing they don't need. BC preemptively closed the highways that had been open as of this past week in a move to hopefully keep people safe as the routes are still quite fragile.
This storm hitting right now isn't supposed to dump as much rain over the areas suffering from the floods from mid-month but the ground is still saturated so any additional moisture is not welcomed.
There is still yet another storm lined up to hit on Tuesday.
