The Rookie Season 4 Episode 1, "Life and Death" premieres tonight, so I thought I'd get the discussion thread ready. Can't wait to hear what everyone thinks.

Nathan might be tweeting during the episode. They always do east coast so I won't watch and be spoiled. If you are in the east check and see?

Wow, Christine, I don't know why you're not writing the Rookie reviews any more, but the new person's review is terrible.

I agree. Christine's are much better.

The new person is completely new. This was her very first review. I don't ever want to go back and read my first TV show review. I'm certain I'd cringe. I'm sure our editor will give her pointers and things will get better.
As for me, I just couldn't do a show that airs at 10pm on Sunday nights any longer. ABC rarely gives out screeners ahead of time which means by the time I watch the show, write the recap, review, make sure all the quotes are correct, and format it all properly to post, it's between 1am and 2am and I have to get up about 6:30am on Mondays.
Ironically, when I first started reviewing, I could do three shows a night, but then I was younger, and could frequently sleep in!

But what did you think about the episode. They haven't said why they killed off Jackson, but I'm fairly sure Titus Makin wanted out of the show. He seems focused on his music and he almost didn't come back last season but Alexi Hawley lured him back with the racism storyline.
If they had to write him out, then I think they almost had to kill off the character. Not much else makes sense, especially since they were scrambling to rescue Lopez. There's not way Jackson wouldn't be in the middle of that. I like Jackson and will really miss his character. I hope we see his father, Commander West in future episodes because I like him too. And I thought Richard T Jones, Sgt. Grey, did an excellent job showing emotion over Jackson's death while still focusing on getting the job done.

I had to look and see who the director was for this episode as it reminded me of a Rob Bowman episode. 42 min that felt like a full length movie. So much packed into one episode. I had to go back and look at all of the tweets 2 hrs after it aired in the east. I kind of expected Jackson to leave. Hawley gave him a special year with a great storyline for Jackson. I know he was struggling with the character he played. I hope he makes it with his music. That should be healing for him. He will be missed. I was thinking they might kill off Westley after he went into the den of the mad lady. I’m glad Nolan could kick ass and get him back. Nolan is a big man and that is felt in this scene. I like that they named the baby Jackson. He played a part in saving that child’s life and it will give the show a chance to keep his memory alive on the show. I need to go back and watch it again as there was so much in that episode. I will give your replacement some slack. Especially since you wanted out of the review. I know you did have some very long Sunday nights. Too bad they can’t give screeners for reviewers.

Sorry, I'm not cutting her any slack. She couldn't even get the names of the characters correct. That's a pretty basic thing.

This was jam packed and a great premiere. I love how the team works together. Even though Nolan has only just now become a P2, he is obviously a highly respected member of the team who often takes the lead in plans and action. I thought the actors really shone. Everyone gave very emotional (and kick-ass) performances.
I want to see how it plays out with Wesley becoming a dirty lawyer. I imagine he will keep it from Angela and that will surely drive a wedge between them. Since Nolan is no longer a rookie we'll see if he becomes a TO or if there is another area he can move into. Then there's Bradford who's up for detective. Should be an exciting season. I'm not sure how they will all keep working together if they go in all different directions. Maybe they will even get Tim and Lucy together. I know everyone is rooting for that but I'm not really excited about it.
I don't know why Jackson left the show but his storylines often felt like an afterthought to me. I think the show handled his departure well paying tribute to the character.
