We're halfway through August already! This summer is flying by. All my daughter can talk about is when we're going back to school shopping, and we check the school website for her new schedule daily but it's not up yet. Here in NJ, school begins just after Labor Day. We just completed the 1,500 mile engine test on our Jeep. Tomorrow they're going to scope the engine and tell us if we're getting a new one or not. Sometimes the car runs perfect, and at others it sputters, stalls, and/or produces lots of white smoke from the tailpipe. We're very anxious to find out what they're going to do. We've got a quiet week planned here. Other than work, I'll probably take my daughter to the park pool at least once since this is the last week it will be open. Later in the week I have to pick my father up from the airport. He's out west helping my sister with her move. I hope larryholmes is off enjoying his vacation with his brother but how is everyone else doing this week? Chime in and let us know.

Arizona has been back to school for weeks already. We start early and end early. Most districts and universities have put in a mask mandate even though our Gov. is trying to make it so they can’t do that. I have been working on my check list for my RV and house maintenance this week. New tires for my RV this morning. Electrician arrived this afternoon to redo my 30 amp plug for my RV. He also replaced the GFCI(?) plug in the master bathroom that has been flipping off for years. Ends up that switch also flips off the laundry room plug where my small freezer is located. The freezer is fine and is working well. It was just the bad plug. Yeah I have an extra freezer again !! Tomorrow I have a Mobil RV repair guy coming to replace a fan in the dash and reconnect one place on the front panel. Wednesday I am getting the RV washed and waxed and the carpet in the front cleaned. The car is getting it’s oil & filter changed. I will get that washed and waxed the next day. My neighbors sold their house today. I hope the new neighbors are nice. We are still having major monsoon storms. I counted 14 trees that fell down or snapped off last night as I drove over to get my new tires this morning. We really need the rain but these storms are frightening.

I have been unusually busy the last month. My sister was in the hospital for almost 2 weeks, and then was moved to assisted living for treatment and PT. She's a fall risk and I told her she can no longer live by herself. Her house got listed last Friday (cash offers only, sold "as is"). She got 6 offers and it was sold that next day! She has moved into a very nice group home. My family and I are in the process of clearing out, giving away, and trashing stuff. It's amazing what accumulated over the years. She's lived there since the summer of 1994! The sale closes September 1st, so we have our work cut out for us. I'll be ready for a vacation when this is all over, lol.

We had a bit of a covid scare this week. My 16 year old grandson tested positive after seeing the doctor for a cough that has just hung on. Thankfully, he's fully vaccinated and the symptoms were more just a bother. In truth, they're wondering if it might have been a false positive test because no other family members tested positive, including the unvaccinated 7 year old. We're thankful for that.
I had my quilting buddies over yesterday for lunch and an afternoon of playing MahJongg and we had a great time. Then 2 hours after they left, we had other friends over to play different games. My mind was exhausted by bedtime!
We're inundated with garden produce and it seems like we're living on vegetables. This week I've cooked up beets, carrots, potatoes, sweet corn and green beans from the garden! Also, the counter is loaded with ripe tomatoes - the best treat of all!

Nathanfan1 you have given me the boost to plant a garden this fall. I would love to have some fresh garden tomatoes.

DrvrTrnr, I’m sorry about your sister, but I’m glad she’s getting the help she needs. Being a fall risk is no joke. I’ve had family in assisted living. They were hesitant at first but ended up loving it and being far more social than when they were stuck at home on their own. I hope it works that way for her. But yes, cleaning out a house that someone has lived in for decades is a daunting task. Pace yourself, and good luck! tycho657, good luck with your new neighbors. As where still looking for a new place to live, I know how wondering who your new neighbors will be can make you anxious, especially when you get along well with the neighbors you’ve had. nathanfan1, I’m happy to hear your grandkids are all okay. And you make me wish I had the time or space to garden, although I’m lucky to have a neighbor who likes to share his produce!

Just a quick note since we are 'trapped' inside today by rain and near gale force winds. At least we got the laundry done. Fishing has been absolutely amazing. Daily schedule is out at 0700 and return at 1600. Likely more than a year of closed USA-Canada border preventing visitors has led to fish being less cautious about biting. We have had over 100 walleye days four times in first seven days...645 walleyes total plus some [15-20] stray northern pike...savages that look and behave like an 'aggressive garbage can full of teeth'!!! Most walleyes were over the 'mandatory catch and release length' of 18-21 inches. I have had the day's largest catch which was 25 inches three times! As you can imagine, my brother and our buddy who lives here are eager to see that change to one of them. Stew's wife says that she is so pleased to have us here to get Stew out of her hair and enjoying himself while he is bothering someone other than her. Jack and I are in the same cabin we have occupied the previous 15 times we have been here. Nearly time to prepare supper. Jack and I are great survival cooks ... amazing what you can fix in the morning in a crock pot and enjoy that evening for a really good supper. Weather forecast is for clear and bright days all next week. Sure pleased that stormy and rainy day corresponded with laundry and trip to market [45 minutes to Sioux Lookout].

larryholmes sounds like a great trip. Do you bring any fish home with you? I remember catching walleye in Lake Erie. I use to freeze the filets in water. They kept for a long time in the freezer. How many hours does it take you to drive home from where you are fishing? That would make it challenging for sure. I hope you see more sun this week.

The minute I read that name I recognized it as the track we went to! Guess that horse needs a little more prep before racing!

We are still fishing in Canada for our second week. Both Jack and I each bring four walleyes [eight frozen filets each] from Canada into US when we leave. Jack takes his and mine home. TSA would never let me through to plane with frozen fish. Express shipping frozen fish is startlingly expensive. Good old Jack phones to let me know when ever he eats some of them...bless his heart [@#$%^%$#@]. We had fried walleye filets in our cabin last night. Today was another super day - including my 16 1/2 inch smallmouth! We release all smallmouth and northern pike. Weather is finally become cooler. This area has been having almost daily record temperatures and very little rain for weeks. Absolutely no open fires are allowed under any circumstances. Oh, we already have our two weeks reserved for next year. Hopefully, all the COVID protocols will be gone by then. If not, we did them this year; and, we can do them again if necessary.
