It's July 5th! Although I heard some people setting off fireworks in the area last night, there wasn't a lot going on. However, this Tuesday, our local minor league baseball arena has a game and will be having a fireworks display afterward. There's a shopping mall just across the street so we're considering parking over there to watch the fireworks that night. Not quite the 4th of July, but close. Did anyone else do something fun for the holiday? I'm sitting here getting some work done and watching our hamster. She doesn't normally get up during the day but she was asleep under her bedding in one corner of the tank. She crawled out, stretched, and then went over to her favorite sleeping spot underneath a half log in another corner. I wonder if we were being too loud for her. Last night she spent a lot of time in her sand bath. Apparently Syrian hamsters live in a desert environment and use sand to clean themselves. Who knew? So we have a container with sand in one corner. She loves to go over and dig and groom herself. It's cute to watch. So that's all the excitement so far in my week. I'm hoping yours might be more interesting.

Our oldest son [Chris-Army lawyer] has arrived in Jordan today for the next ten months of his mobilization tour of duty. Thankfully, things are quiet there and the government has made it clear that intend to keep it that way. Apparently most of his time will be on duty in our embassy. Our other son [Nick-Army doctor] completed his mobilization tour of duty at Army hospital in Germany and is back in Minnesota with his family. Only 40 days until the '2021 Great Canada Fishing Adventure' is scheduled to begin. They better get the border open very soon!

There were big fireworks all around us on Saturday night. Some in our neighborhood and the next one over and some a few miles away but apparently still private displays. We went to the golf course for their fireworks display on the 4th. It was professionally done and the best I had seen there. I love fireworks! The city also had a huge display downtown. Although I like to see it and the fireworks are really fabulous, you have to go quite early to get a parking space and it's murder trying to get out of there afterwards so I usually just go to the golf course.

I am in a fairgrounds with hundreds of RV's arriving tomorrow. I am directing the music. We have been rehearsing 4 to 6 hrs a day. I have some fabulous musicians from all over the USA in the group. We perform starting Thursday for breakfast daily and for an ice cream social. We are free to attend sessions during the day. 3 Dog Night will be performing one night for the event. I am meeting up with 2 couples from my camping group tomorrow when they arrive for the event.

Just saw the Mall of Louisiana trending on Twitter and thought the worst. But they had to shut it down because a 12 foot python from the Blue Zoo, inside the mall, snuck out of her enclosure and they're still searching for her.
The world is a little warped when I'm relieved there's an escaped giant snake, but I'll take it. FYI, the pyton's name is Cara. Maybe she just wanted to do a little shopping.

As of this morning, Cara, the 12 foot, yellow and white, Burmese python is still on the loose. Officials say she's friendly and is used to being handled. Let's hope she ate a good meal before her escape!

Hi All, We have been doing our favorite thing and catching up on ALL the current movies we wish to see. Only Boss Baby with the twins left at this time. Trying to work out a time when they are not busy. We went out to lunch with sister, BIL, and nephew on the 2nd. We had not seen them in over 3 years so was very nice and we had a fun visit. On the 3rd, I took a 180 motorcycle ride and had a great day. WI has a LOT of mom and pop cheese factories. I found a really good one in a little town and brought home some great cheese. We did not do anything on the 4th. Due to Trump making everything political, we were not comfortable celebrating. Things were very low key in our area. Not a lot of fireworks or celebrations. we only saw a few pickups decked out in red, white, and blue with Trump flags waving. As a veteran, I am very sorry to see our country like this. I was always PROUD to be an American, but not so much these days. JMO Tomorrow is Book Club . We are so happy to get together with our group again and visit and share our books. We had not been doing an author as we had no real meetings in over a year. I will start it off again this month. I am doing Carl Hiiasen. I very much enjoy his books. Friday, we are taking a day trip to Baraboo to go to the International Crane Foundation. They have cranes from every kind left on our planet. They are wonderfully presented and it is very fun to see. We will eat at a very nice place in Baraboo and wander back home. Hope you all are having a nice summer too

We finally got to see some fireworks last night. It was incredibly crowded and very few people, even inside the mall area, were wearing masks. You could assume that everyone is vaccinated, NJ has a high rate of vaccination, but none of the kids were wearing masks which worries me because they're too young to be vaccinated. Right now, kids under 12 make up about 25% of new infections. I can't wait until October when my daughter can finally get the vaccine.
The parking lot was packed. Just as the fireworks were starting, this woman pulled up and parked next to us in an area clearly marked as no parking. She opened the sunroof on her Honda Pilot and let the four kids in the back crawl out onto the roof. They were bouncing around so much we wondered if the roof would dent or the sunroof would get knocked offtrack. There was lots of "Don't hit your sister again" and complaining about who wanted to see fireworks and who didn't. Two of the kids were in baseball gear. One of them had his feet on the windshield and he was kicking it with his cleats. The Mom told him to stop it because she's already had to replace that windshield twice! They were almost louder than the fireworks. They got there late, then left 15 minutes before the fireworks were over. It was like watching a second show.
But it was a beautiful night and the fireworks were a lot of fun. I'm really glad we got to go.
