Well, it's the end of June and I don't know where it went! Time flies by so quickly these days. My daughter started her art camp and so far she loves it. They were working with clay today. She said she started off trying to make an elephant and it became a "creepy swan" instlead. I can't wait to see it. ibmjas and tycho657, I live in a small town in NJ and we have all of the wildlife you've been talking about. We actually had a black bear wander through town a couple of weeks ago. We have a lot of black bears here in NJ. My friend jogs on a path that goes through the woods and one day she saw two black bear cubs up in a tree. She said she had two thoughts almost simultaneously. "Aww, theyr'e so cute." and "Oh my God! Mom's got to be around here and I don't want to die!" So she ran back the way she came. We have bobcats, although they're so stealthy we don't see much of them. And a nature preserve in the next town has had an Eagle Cam over a nest over the last several years. In other news, we're getting that heat wave this week. It's currently 94 degrees but the heat index says it feels more like 104. The worst day is supposed to be Wednesday. Let us know how your week is going...

112 'heat index' at 4pm today. It only took a few hours to decide that we had enough 'fun' working in the yard. This is forecast to continue a couple more days...yikes!

I’m heading out for a month long RV trip. I will attend 2 big events in Wyoming then up to Montana to visit a good friend. I was hoping to see cooler camping weather but it looks like the heat is everywhere. I should have a plug in for my AC for all but one week. Hopefully I will be able to run my generator to run my AC to keep my kitties cool.
I grew up near Seattle and went to college in Oregon. This heat wave is unbelievable. Most people don’t even have AC. When it’s hotter in the NW than it is here in Arizona something is very wrong.

Here it is...8:30 and heat index is 95! Maybe there will be no more yard work until September. Nah, that will never happen around here.

It's just past 11pm. The temp is 98*, humidity is 20% and the dew point is 51*. We're expecting rain the next few days from tropical storm Enrique which is just off the southern Mexican coast. Looking forward to a slight cooldown. Any rain will be appreciated since we have extreme drought conditions.

Saw where temps were close to 110 out in the Pacific Northwest and many of them don't have air conditioning since it's normally much cooler. Made me think back to when I was young. I rode my bike to the library a lot. Partly because I enjoyed books but equally important was the fact that they had air conditioning and we didn't.

I can't imagine it being 110 without AC. That's brutal, although my sister spent a couple of years in Africa where it got to 115 regularly. I like the heat but that's even too much for me!
We're looking at temperatures close to 100 today, but then we're supposed to have thunderstorms tonight which should cool things off. I love summer thunderstorms.

We had a lot of much needed rain yesterday and today. Saw of lot of lightning but nothing as neat as this picture I saw from earlier this year.

That picture is amazing, ibmjas! Our weather has broken here. Today is actually pretty cool for July. It's only going to reach about 70 degrees with possible showers all day, but we'll be in the 80s and low 90s most of the week, which is fine. It is summer but I can't believe the brutal heat in other places that normally never sees those temperatures. I can't imagine having to deal with that, especially if you don't have AC.

Weather forecast for Winchester sounds very much like yours. The rain here will be great since we really need several days of nice slow rain and not some 'amazing storm'. Certainly nothing like northern Virginia suburbs, DC, and east toward coast got yesterday...two weak tornadoes!

I have been driving from Albuquerque to Colorado Springs to Denver to Cheyenne to Gillette,WY today. I marvel at the great expanse of our amazing country. I love to be able to look out and see 10 to 50 miles in all directions. You can see storms approaching from far away. I realized when I lived in Indiana for 12 years that my soul needs open spaces. I need to see 10 to 50 miles of open land.

We do live in an amazing country with beautiful landscapes. When driving to Arizona from the Chicago area for the first time, it was easy to see how states' borders were determined. The changes in terrain were obvious. One time when we were driving across Nebraska, the weather was stormy. Looking to the north we could see three tornadoes hanging down from the clouds in the distance. Luckily we were going away from them. I've never been in a tornado, but I've seen the results of one. It's very scary what mother nature can do.
