I have to say that I am very glad that I am not too old to learn, case in point, what happened on Friday, May 14th...for some reason my phone was in Robo Call hell. I had a total of 23 Robo Calls that day and rather than get upset, I used it to learn about how big the country is...
Usually the calls come from a state, and many did, California, Texas, Connecticut, Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey to name a few, but then they got sneaky, Greenwich, Connecticut, Newark, New Jersey, etc. And this is where I learned about our country. I had no idea that some of these towns or cities even existed and had to look them up just to see where they are.
Sparr, Michigan. Now I have family in the Travis City and Boyne City area, but I never knew about Sparr. Interesting name and I wonder where it came from.
Chilly, Idaho. This makes sense, as you know, Idaho is pretty cold in the winter and I guess a good part of the year it can be chilly.
Thedford, Nebraska. This is another place I'd love to know how it was named.
Jewell, Iowa. I can only imagine that someone saw it way back when and thought it was so pretty it looked like a jewel. Of course it could be the founders name was Clem Jewell, so again, I could be wrong.
Wildwood, Arkansas. I know Wildwood, NJ because we went there a few times when I was a boy when we lived in the Caldwell area. Arky would be the one to ask if it is indeed a wild place to live.
Portales, New Mexico. What kind of tales do Por's have? I figure that Tycho may be able to answer as she lives next door, 'cause I haven't a clue.
Black Creek, Wisconsin. Pretty explanatory I guess. The creek runs thru black silt or else someone put up a factory and Sparkling Creek had a change of name.
West Haven, Connecticut. I know this one! My grandmother lived there as did my great aunt, also Jimmies of Savin Rock is there and they used to make the best lobster rolls. That was when they had outdoor windows and you had to fight the seagulls for your lunch. Ahh, good times.
Just from one day of intense Robo Call interruptions and I learned where all these new towns and cities are! Yep, you can sure learn a lot from someone trying to scam you out of your life savings.
