How is everyone this week? geezer2008, I'm so glad to hear that yours and Rikki's checkups went well. That's always good news! It was crazy windy here most of last week. It even knocked over our basketball net in the backyard, which we thought was well secured and has weathered many a storm. Thankfully, we were able to get it fixed. This week looks calmer. We've got some rain, but it's going to be in the 60s and 70s all week so it will be nice spring weather. I'm really enjoying all of the flowers and seeing leaves on the trees. Yesterday was my step-father's birthday. As he and my mom are still in California we did another Zoom party. We've gotten really good at those this last year. But they'll be traveling back to NJ in about a month to visit the house they're having built. My step-father is an electrical engineer and he wants to do a walk through once they get all the wiring and lighting set up but before they put up the drywall. Since this is the last house they plan to live in, he wants to make sure everything is perfect. So everyone, check in and let us know how you're doing wherever you are in the world.

I was only able to go kayaking one day as the wind was up and white caps on the lake. I had to turn the AC on as it was getting hot for the kitties inside the RV. I have spotty 1 or 2 bars of 4G so I haven't seen this week's episode of The Rookie. I am moving to camp with my other group closer to Phoenix in an RV Park so I should be back to many 4 and 5 G connections.Everyone in my next group is now vaccinated so we can do things outside together without worry. The group I am just leaving only did outside events but they felt they could not invade peoples privacy by asking if they had the vaccine. I just asked people I was hanging with myself. I never found anyone who was not vaccinated. Lets see if this will post this morning...

Well, Dawn and I took older son, Chris - the JAG lawyer in Virginia National Guard, to Ft Belvoir for the beginning of his second Kuwait deployment on Saturday. Not a joyful experience as you can imagine. Just after we returned home, our other son, Nick - the doctor in Minnesota Army Reserve, called to alert us he had just been alerted for his second deployment which fortunately will be to the Army hospital in Landstuhl, Germany. It will begin on 13 May for several months [rather short notice, it seems]. The Army Reserve had such large losses of its doctors that they have limited the duration of those deployments. Unfortunately, National Guard still has full 12 month deployments. There maybe some reduction in the period because the National Guard is now experiencing personnel losses among lawyers similar to those of Army Reserve with doctors. Many deployed doctors and lawyers have returned to find their private practices damaged or even destroyed. At least, neither of our sons is in the 'combat arms'. We all fully understood that accepting the commissions and joining the military might involve unusual 'experiences'. It is part of serving your country. Nevertheless, we still had hoped that deployments, especially repeat deployments, would never be necessary.

What tough goodbyes, larryholmes, I hope and pray all goes well. I hope things have calmed down a bit for you, ProudTVJunkie! I just felt so bad for you with the string of events that kept happening. The weather here has been up and down temperature-wise, not as warm as spring usually is, and after every rain&storm event we get wind-wind-wind!!!!!! I do not remember ever having so much wind and I've lived in this town all my life! The good news is that the painters were able to find a day here and there that was warm enough and rain-free and my house has a new coat of paint. Cross that off my list! They did a great job. I picked out my new Nigerian Dwarf kid a couple weeks ago. He should be ready to come here in a couple weeks. That will be 6 goats total, which is about all that can fit at the gate when I give out treats!!!!!!

My kids and most of my friends are fully vaccinated. Makes me feel much better about the pandemic. However that fact that so many refuse to get the vaccine will mean the virus will continue to mutate and will probably always be with us from now on just like the flu. My son will be moving to Denver next week and I'm pretty sad. We'll have a family gathering on Mother's Day. I see him nearly every week so it will be different. Went to the bank today. The teller was wearing a Star Wars tie. I said, "May the 4th be with you." He replied, "and to you as well."

larryholmes, I’m curious, how often have your sons been deployed? My husband has a cousin in Seattle who is a trauma surgeon and in the Reserves. I know he was considering not re-uping but I’m not sure what he decided. The Army wanted him to stay but his hospital was also making a hard push to get him to stay with them as they were shorthanded due to Covid. I’m not sure what he finally decided, so I guess this is a good reminder to me to check in with them this weekend. Fjordmom, thank you for thinking of me. It means a lot. So far this week has been better. At least no part of my ceiling has fallen down! There was a leak in the bathroom but my husband was able to fix it, and the car seems to be running okay, so fingers crossed everything remains stable. I’m happy to hear your house got painted. Any interesting color schemes? And you’re getting another goat! We need pictures once he arrives. ibmjas, I’m sorry your son is moving. I know that’s difficult, especially when you’re used to getting to see him regularly. And although I missed saying it yesterday, I am a huge Star Wars fan, so May the Fourth be with you, too!

This is the second time each has been overseas. Both were both deployed to Kuwait for their first deployments.

..... larryholmes Fjordmom , .... I’m happy to hear you house got painted. Any interesting color schemes? And you’re getting another goat! We need pictures once he arrives. Nothing exciting about color schemes...Benjamin Moore exterior paint, Puritan Gray, with a very subtle trim paint...I forget the name. So, remember, I'm in Massachusetts -- PURITAN Gray....I wonder if Benjamin Moore changes names based on historical location??!!!?? It's a subtle gray with a little bit of a blue tinge....it's been over 15 years since last painting and other than some minimal fadng it's been a really durable paint....and I'm very happy with it. I told the painter he was not allowed to retire since I figure I will need one more paint redo in my lifetime ...luckily he is a bit younger than me. I will definitely post a pic of the newest kid when he comes home...here.... . The breeder has pics at 2 weeks old but they don't capture some of the subtle markngs that he has that are really interesting now that he is older.
