How is it Monday again already? I don't know where the last week went to but it just flew by! To those of you celebrating Easter or Passover, I hope you had a wonderful holiday.
It's 10pm here and it still feels like I have so much to get done today. I've had a busy day with work, and tomorrow and Wednesday will likely be just as busy. For anyone who is a fan of The Conners (the Roseanne spinoff) I'll be interviewing Lecy Goranson who plays Becky Conner tomorrow ahead of a two-part episode on Wednesday.
And my husband and I just had to take down the ceiling tiles in our bathroom in search of a shut-off valve for the shower in the apartment above. For the record, the valve doesn't appear to be in our ceiling.
And I just knocked my African Violet off a window ledge in my kitchen. The dirt seemed to fly everywhere! I hope the plant somehow manages to survive.
So how is your week going so far?

Everyone 16+ can now get vaccinated here. My son (age 24) and some of his friends got their first vaccinations at CVS on April 1. They didn't go together but all of them were asked where they were from. Apparently people have been coming to our little city (pop. < 120,000) from all over the state. It is the largest city within 120 miles but some people have driven over 6 hours to get here where they were nearer to larger cities. I think it speaks to how organized and efficient we have been in getting and distributing vaccines. We've been very lucky.

ibmjas, so glad your son was able to get the vaccine. We're still at 55 and over here in NJ. I'm hoping that with the President's announcement yesterday it will be opened up for everyone on April 19th. Then we just have to find open appointments. In other news this week, I was doing laundry yesterday when the dryer stopped heating up. We figure it's either the thermostat or the heating coil. What's frustrating is that it was under warranty, but the warranty was through Sears which is now gone. On the upside, there's a laundromat near my daughter's bus stop. The downside is that a bag of wet laundry is heavier than you'd think when you're carrying it a block away. Added bonus, it was pouring rain. I really hope this week gets better soon.

I am waiting for my Grandson and his family to visit. They are at his Dad's this week. I get them Sunday and next week. I am trying to keep busy. For sure another Kayak trip on the river this week. ibmjas so glad to hear you are getting shots for family. Arizona has been open to all adults for awhile now. I wish I could talk my grandson into getting the shot. I started bottle babies this week. We had 41 in the ICU nursery on Saturday. That included 8 puppies. I prefer kittens but did one kennel of 4 puppies. The kittens are coming fast this time of year and thru the summer months. WE are hitting 90's this week. A little early for those temps but with the kiddos coming the pool will be warm enough to use now.

tycho657, I remember bottle feeding both puppies and kittens. Puppies tend to be messier. I'm sure the shelter really appreciates your help. And the grandkids and great-grandkids are going to love your pool when they get there! As for me, I was just going through some old boxes and I found a bunch of party supplies. One of the parities was when my daughter was 5. It was a fairy theme. We still have five pairs of fairy wings, a couple of wands, and unfortunately one small container of fairy dust. I say unfortunately because it fell and broke on the kitchen floor. Glitter went everywhere! I swept and even did a quick mop but there is still gold glitter stuck to the floor. On the upside, does fairy dust bring good luck? I can only hope.

Yard work is about to get me down. I am about to be designated a 'frequent shopper' by Lowe's. For the third day this week...twelve 40 pound bags of topsoil again. Twelve more tomorrow and then rainy period begins for a couple days. Dawn and I are eager to have the smooth lawn. Nevertheless, that means hoisting at least 480 pounds of dirt each day three times - once loading vehicle at store, then unloading upon returning home, and then finally dumping them at the right place in the yard to be spread. Honestly, 40 pound bags of dirt really seem to get a great deal heavier as the day progresses...especially when you are over 80. Of course, there is no problem getting to sleep each night. Hopefully, a six foot deep, six foot long, and three foot wide hole doesn't appear off in some corner of the yard. I suppose I am safe after 53 years; then again, she might be nearing the end of her patience! Hummmm, hopefully that is not liklely to occur.

And the week continues...
This morning the Check Engine light came on in my husband's car so he took it to the dealer. We have two months left on the initial engine warranty. Well, there was a $150 diagnostic fee only they couldn't completely diagnose it. It's either a problem with a cylinder or a coil. One might be covered under the warranty but the other is not. They did something (don't ask me what) and if the engine light comes back on, he needs to bring it back for further assessment. It's particularly worrisome because we are down to this one car.
I'm really ready for this week to be over.

So...the estimate on the car is $1,500! And my daughter dropped one of my favorite serving bowls which shattered all over the floor. So far this week my kitchen floor has been covered in dirt (my poor African violet), glitter, and now glass. Earlier I was sitting on my front porch, working on my laptop and the neighbor's black cat walked by and looked up at me. I see the cat all the time. Today his eyes got really big and he ran. So I'm even scaring black cats this week!

Wow, PTVJ, I'm sorry for all your problems, especially the expensive one. I like the fairy dust one though. I remember when I used to have NYE parties, I would have lots of confetti ready for everyone to throw at midnight. One of my friends asked why I would put up with such a mess. I just told her I swept up 90% of it after the guests left. As a few little pieces would show up over the next couple of months, I would just smile and remember the fun time we had.

larryholmes, your wife can't get rid of you! Who would handle those 40 lbs bags for her? ibmjas, even I had to laugh when I dropped the glitter. It was wrapped in something else and I had no idea it was there until it hit the floor and just exploded all over the kitchen. It was like something from a comedy sketch. And you can never get all of it to go away. I'm sure I'll be finding bits of sparkly glitter in places weeks from now. As for the car, we have two months left on the engine warranty but they aren't sure what the problem is. They switched out a coil, and if the check engine light comes back on, we have to bring it back in and they should be able to figure out which part is a problem. It might be covered under the warranty or it might not. In the meantime, we're going to have to stay close to home until it gets fixed.

I feel kind of sheepish reporting that I've had a busy but fun week after reading about PTVJ's kitchen floor issues and Larry's heavy lifting! We've had 2 groups of friends over for games this week and a visit from one of my daughter and the grandkids. We have a baby calf at our place because the cow had twins and only claimed one of them. That's not unusual because they identify the first one they lick clean as their own. So this little guy has to be bottle fed and kept safe until he's quite a bit bigger. The grandkids are taking turns coming over to feed the calf in the evening and then helping feed the horses and climb on the hay stack. Great experiences for everyone!

Nathanfan I bottle feed kittens and puppies but a cow🙈 You must go through lots and lots of milk with him.
I went out Kayaking again today while I patiently wait for my Grandson and family to get over to me on Sunday. The water was really up today from 700ft last week to over 1100ft today. There was a couple and a Mom and her 3 kids and their dog, a golden lab. I was watching out for the kids as the Mom had started down a rapids ahead of them. The oldest son, maybe 11 or 12, had the dog on his kayak. They were headed the wrong way at the fork. I paddled back to help him. I just got him going the right way when the dog jumped off the kayak. That poor dog was freaking out. Thank God they had a vest on him but the long leash was just waiting to get snagged on a tree or rock and he would be gone. I tried to paddle over in the middle of the rapids to help them. I got the dog safe and when I turned to check out my situation it was too late and I flipped. I was fine and only lost my good towel. 2 college girls were on the shore and helped me flip the kayak back and dump the water. They were impressed that I had only lost the towel as I had everything connected just in case. They were also concerned that the river was cold. I told them I grew up on Puget Sound where the water was about 50 year round so I was good. I was just thankful that we didn’t lose the dog or the boy. When I caught up to the Mom I told her she needed to keep the dog with her and stay behind her kids. What was she thinking??? Needless to say I’m having a margarita and chips for dinner tonight...maybe 2.

PTVJ, it seems like every day this week has been a Friday the 13th for you! At least there weren't any slashers waiting to attack you. Hopefully next week will be a lot better. On a happier note, I got my 2nd covid shot this morning. So far, no ill effects and I hope it stays that way. Now everyone in my immediate family has been vaccinated.

The week's not over yet. Today my daughter broke the bow for her violin and was in tears. Thankfully, I was able to fix it. So happy you were able to get your second shot! That's wonderful news.
