It's a beautiful spring day! The sun is shining and I only have to wear a sweatshirt outdoors. My husband has off today and we even took a walk this morning after dropping my daughter off at the bus. I also sold my car. It was 18-years-old, so I didn't get a lot for it, but enough to pay a few bills. Now we're down to one car, at least for a while. We really don't need two car payments and there's a possibility we may be moving in the next few months. So we figured it was better to save some money and try to get by with one car. Luckily, I work from home, so we can do it for a while. In other good news, my Dad got his second vaccine this morning. I don't know when my husband and I will be able to get ours as NJ's age limit is still 65 and up but I'm hoping they'll open it up to everyone by May. Fingers crossed! So let us know what's going on with you...

I've got a BIG week ahead! For the first time in forever, I actually have social activities on my calendar. Now that my husband and I are fully protected and so are all of our friends, we're planning some game times with 2 different couples and then my quilting buddies. I can hardly wait! We're also going to celebrate 2 of the grandsons' birthdays on Saturday night with pizza, cheesecake and crazy cake (our favorite chocolate cake). I'm sure not used to such a high level of activity but it'll be a delight!

Ah, Spring is here! We are experiencing the third driest March in history. Nevertheless, yard work has begun in earnest. I am beginning to believe that Dawn has been plotting 'back yard adventures' for months. She has more plans than I could imagine. Nevertheless, we have been outside for about five hours daily for almost a week. The dogs are beginning to understand that we are out to do things and not play. Still it really is great to be out even if that means 'fun' yard work. Can you imagine, there are people who enjoy yard work as a '...hobby...'? Well, to each his own as the old song says.

I just returned from a week of camping with two different groups. Most people have had at least 1 shot if not 2. A couple of people were able to get the J&J vaccine. The 1st group had meals together but we were careful to wrap things so no one touched food and servers were wearing masks and gloves. It was all outside. We did go to town on St. Patrick’s day to watch the big fountain in the city center turn green. It was a beautiful sunny day with no wind.
I got in some kayaking with the 2nd group. We were camped at Alamo Lake. There were wild mules roaming the area. I got a couple of good pictures. I will make a puzzle with one of those. There was no cell service at Alamo Lake State Park. It is not near any town. I did get a bar of 4G for a couple of minutes in the morning sometimes so I was able to get texts. It was refreshing to escape the world for a few days.
I get my 2nd shot on Wed. I was supposed to get it last Saturday but I was camping so I pushed it back.

Ugh. My step-father's cousin and his wife who live in Brooklyn recently contracted Covid. The wife has a mild case but the husband was hospitalized and today they had to put him on a ventilator. So everyone in the family is very concerned. Also, my Mom found out that her doctor just tested positive for Covid, even though he was vaccinated back in January. The good news is that his symptoms aren't any worse than a cold, so the vaccine is doing its job, but it's still worrisome. So everyone, whether you have the vaccine or not, please be careful. Unfortunately, this thing is far from over.

I am worried that when people get the shots they think they can go back to normal life. My 2 camping groups were acting very differently. The 1st one 90% have both shots and I didn’t see much distancing or masks except the people serving. We ate St Patty’s day at a restaurant in town with very little empty space. I kept my mask on except to eat. I think we are seeing what happens when people relax too much in Europe right now.

The B117 variant is the most dominant form of Covid in the US now. It's twice as contagious and more deadly than Covid from 2020. The vaccine isn't quite as effective against it but there is basically no chance of getting a severe or fatal case as long as you are fully vaccinated. However you can still catch it and you can still pass it on even if asymptomatic so masks are still required. I can't believe all these states are opening everything up before everyone gets vaccinated. Our governor has been really good about keeping us safe but today he opened up our state. Masks are now recommended but not required. Anyone 16+ can get vaccinated starting March 31. That means my kids will be able to get vaccinated too so I'm excited about that.

In December, our town put these little trees out along Main Street and local businesses decorated them for the holidays. Well, they've kept it going. The trees were decorated for Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day. Now we have Spring and Easter themed trees. This one went all out for Easter!

Well, our governor has gone and done it: He lifted all restrictions on businesses. Only 1.2 million adults have been fully vaccinated, about 20% At least people 16 and older are now eligible to get vaccinated. The last time he lifted restrictions, we became the national hotspot for cases. Medical people are afraid we'll have the same result. Luckily, many businesses will still require masks and distancing. My husband and I don't go anywhere without a mask. He gets his second shot tomorrow and I get mine April 9th.
